Pain Neuroscience Education and Exercise in Institutionalized Older Adults With Pain

Chronic Pain

The primary objectives of this study are to: Evaluate recruitment procedures and adherence rates; Evaluate the ability to understand the concepts of pain neurophysiology; Evaluate the acceptability of an intervention program based on pain neuroscience education and exercise by institutionalized older adults and the institutions where they are.

Acute and Persistent Pain in ICU Patients

Critical CareAcute Pain1 more

Approximately 20,000 patients are treated in intensive care units (ICU) in Finland annually. During ICU stay many diagnostic and other procedures as well as immobilization and underlying diseases may cause pain. Therefore the incidence of pain in ICU patients can be high. Acute pain may cause several detrimental effects including respiratory distress, tissue hypoxia, immunosuppression and anxiety. After discharge many survivors of critical care have lower health-related quality of life, symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder or persistent pain. Only few studies with a focus on acute or persistent pain in ICU patients have been made, hence the incidence and risk factors for ICU-related pain is not very well known. Some of the identified risk factors for persisting pain may be increased age, sepsis or inadequate pain management during ICU stay. Opioids are most often used for analgesics in intensive care. Because they may have several adverse effects the use must be based on validated pain scales. Many factors such as sedation, relaxation or delirium of the patient complicates the management of the pain. This prospective observational study aims to determine the incidence and risk factors for acute and persistent pain in ICU patients as well as and the use of analgesics during intensive care.

The Effectiveness of Cancer Pain Management in Siriraj Outpatient Pain Clinic

PainChronic1 more

-Background: Cancer is one of the most common cause of death. Cancer pain is often cited as one of the most feared in cancer patients. Although, WHO guidelines have been provided to improve pain outcome, the results are still unsatisfied. In order to improve cancer pain management we consider to contribute a new guideline which includes interdisciplinary approach, early doing the pain interventions, breakthrough pain, education, high quality of pain assessment and contribute the effectiveness follow-up system

Management of Chronic Pain

Chronic Pain

The investigators aim to validate if a digital tool for increased self-management of chronic pain can improve the quality of life for patients with chronic pain. The validation is based on the change in pain interference (Quality of life), pain intensity, physical functioning, depression, and anxiety based on self-reported information from baseline to study end.

Impact of Yogotherapeutics on Chronic Pains' Patients

Chronic Pain

In a context where yoga is more and more popularized in France and in Europe, and where Yogatherapy (as complementary medicine) begins to make its place in the care of patients in French hospitals, it seems interesting to study the impact of yoga in the chronic pain patient treated in a specific pain consultation by this non-pharmacological approach, and accessible.

Influence of Trauma on Pain Area and Widespreadness in Chronic Pain Patients

Chronic PainTrauma

It is well known that patients suffering from chronic pain report higher levels of pain, anxiety, and depression if they have experienced a traumatic event. However, little is know about pain area and widespreadness. In this retrospective study, we want to investigate whether pain area and widespreadness differs in chronic pain patients with and without traumatic events. To test this hypothesis we will retrospectively analyse pain drawings collected at the pain outpatient department from Hannover Medical School. Participants will be divided into four groups depending on the severity of their traumatic events: no trauma; accidental trauma; interpersonal trauma; post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

PNE Delivered With a VR Headset in Outpatient LBP Patients

Chronic Pain

The primary objective of this study is to explore the feasibility and acceptability of the delivery of educational content using a virtual reality headset in the setting of an outpatient physical therapy (PT) course of care for chronic low back pain. We aim to collect both qualitative and quantitative data regarding: 1) specifics of device use in the course of PT care 2) acceptability of both the content and delivery method from the therapist and subject perspective 3) subject attributes to characterize the study population and explore possible associations with content responses and 4) changes in pain knowledge from pre to post intervention. Information learned in this pilot study will assist us in 1) improving the content and delivery method of a chronic pain education program 2) implementing the program across the Spaulding rehabilitation network and 3) designing a more rigorous effectiveness trial.

Prevalence of Chronic Pain After an Emergency Department Visit for Severe Acute Pain

EMERGENCY MEDICINE

The main objective for investigators is to determine the prevalence of moderate to severe chronic pain in the adult population 6 months after consultation in the emergency department for acute pain (less than 7 days old) and severe pain assessed at admission and defined as greater than or equal to 6/10 by the numerical pain scale.

The Role of Sensory Processing Sensitivity in Pediatric Chronic Pain

Chronic Pain

The aim of this project is to increase scientific understanding of whether the trait of SPS can help explain increased pain sensitivity and hence vulnerability for chronic pain. Additionally, it will be tested whether participants with high SPS report differences in pain intensity in response to positive, negative, or neutral mood induction compared to individuals with lower SPS.
