Understanding the Determinants of Physical Activity Levels in Persons With Chronic Pain

Chronic Pain

The proposed research topic will investigate the determinants of physical activity (PA) levels in patients with chronic pain. The aim of the research project is to quantify the self-reported and free-living physical activity levels in people with chronic pain. Describe and explore the characteristics and relationships of these participants in terms of pain severity, fear of movement, patterns of activity, anxiety and depression, and number and differing types of long term conditions and how these all correlate with PA levels. Explore PA levels of chronic pain patients and the correlation of psychosocial factors.

Meditation Utilizing Signals From Electroencephalography in Chronic Pain (MUSE-PAIN) Study

Chronic Pain

This clinical investigation is a prospective, open-label, non-randomized, multi-center study. It is designed to assess the use of the Muse-S meditation system in patients with chronic pain based on clinical follow-up data and exploratory cold pressor testing. Baseline assessments will be taken prior to exposure to Muse-S. Subjects will be followed for 7 weeks for main study endpoints and will continue to be followed through 12 months during a study extension period.

Comparing a Patient Self-Assessment Software to Treatment as Usual in Opioid Prescriber and Patient...

Opioid-use DisorderOpioid Misuse2 more

The Care Continuity Program (CCP), a product of Sure Med Compliance, is a novel, online patient self-assessment used by prescribers of opioids to better identify patient risk factors and therapy benefit. This tool is completed by the patient, outside of the office, using an internet enabled device and follows a compliance driven protocol developed by analyzing case law against physicians in mis-prescribing opioid cases. Results, in the form of a date and time stamped legal report, are instantly transmitted to the prescriber's electronic health records, mitigating the prescriber's civil and criminal risk. A brief of findings is displayed within the software through a dashboard and on the summary page of the report. This software offering includes a mobile and standard web-based application. The objective of the proposed research is to validate the protocols and delivery system of the CCP by measuring patient outcomes, prescriber confidence, and completeness of documentation in the patient chart in primary care and pain management settings, pre and post implementation of the CCP.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of genetic testing on healthcare decisions and patient outcomes in interventional pain management clinical care. Results of genetic testing will also be compared with the clinical outcome measures collected to discover novel genetic factors that may influence patient care.

Assessment of Central Pain in the Peripartum Period

Pre - Delivery Pregnant WomenChronic Pain1 more

Chronic pain is common. Up to 10% of the Population has been estimated to suffer from chronic pain and up to 5% of the female population has been estimated to suffer from widespread, chronic pain and tenderness, thus fulfilling American College of Rheumatology (ACR) criteria for classification of fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS). FMS is characterized by the presence of both allodynia and hyperalgesia. FMS is also characterized by disturbances of the autonomic nervous system such as orthostatic intolerance, postural tachycardia etc. The effect of these conditions during gestation and post partum periods is not well known. Parturition is a complex process which involves multiple endocrine and physiological changes within a short period of time. Severe pain is an important attribute of this natural process. The purpose of the current study is to evaluate the impact of chronic central pain on the process of parturition. Our hypothesis is, that women demonstrating signs, symptoms and a history of central pain, before the onset of active labor, will differ from women not demonstrating such traits; these women may require earlier higher does of analgesia, and may demonstrate increased hemodynamic lability during labor and delivery.

Nationwide Evaluation of Multimodal Rehabilitation in Patients With Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain...

Chronic PainWidespread Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is a common health problem that causes enormous social costs. A common method for treating patients with chronic pain problems are multimodal rehabilitation (MMR), which consists of a combination of physical exercise, cognitive behavioural therapy and work training coordinated in an interdisciplinary team. Our research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of MMR on health, quality of life, physical activity, return to work and health economics, with the long-term goal of developing MMR. We aim also to evaluate predictive factors for good and bad treatment outcomes in order to better adapt the MMR to the patient. The project is based on patient-reported data from the Swedish Quality Registry for Pain Rehabilitation, which routinely collects data from 40 (2017) Swedish specialist MMR clinics from all parts of the country. We expect increased knowledge of treatment effects and how MMR can be effectively adapted according to the patient's limitations and resources. Our project group is interdisciplinary and is active in nationwide research networks that focus on chronic pain and rehabilitation.

Effect of Metformin on Chronic Pain After Thoracic Surgery in Diabetic Patients

Postoperative Chronic Pain

Metformin has been found to have more and more functions as a commonly used hypoglycemic drug in clinic. It has been found that metformin has anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor and lipid metabolism regulating effects. Basic studies have shown that metformin as an adjuvant drug combined with gabapentin and tramadol is safe and effective in patients with neuropathic pain. Postoperative chronic pain as a common complication has seriously affected the quality of life and mood of patients after surgery. Some studies have shown that chronic pain after partial operation manifests as neuropathic pain. The effect of metformin on chronic pain after thoracic surgery in patients with diabetes mellitus was observed in this experiment, which was compared with patients taking insulin to control blood sugar.

Central Analgesic Drugs for the Treatment of Chronic Pain

Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is defined as pain that persists after healing of the wound that caused it, and can occur even in the absence of any obvious pathological trigger. In our country, there is a growing interest in the proper management of the disease "pain". Pain is also the first symptom of the disease in 20 -50% of patients with neoplastic disease and from 75% to 90% of patients with advanced cancer suffers from chronic pain . However, pain management is mostly inadequate. This study aims to assess the Italian clinical practice in reference to the pharmacological management of chronic pain by health professionals involved in the treatment of pain in some centers belonging to the Italian network of pain therapy.
