Part 1: The aim of this part of the study was to collect wound swabs and to answer the question whether the rapid diagnostic tool using enzyme activities can display an infection prematurely. This means that an increased enzyme activity (especially MPO, NHE, LYS, gelatinase, pH) measured overed 3 days, would indicate a change in the wound bed (infection, Inflammation) earlier than the regularly performed clinical assessment. Part 2: The aim of this part of the study was to evaluate (I) the possibility of wound fluid acquisition by means of an "additional collector" during ongoing NPWT and to answer if (II) this secretion can be biochemically analyzed for enzyme activities in order to be able to detect a change in the wound situation at an early stage.

To evaluate the wound healing, all variables connected with the surgery (including post-operative complications) were recorded. To evaluate the psychological and behavioral impact of the post-operative discomfort, two survey tools were administered: OHIP-14 and visual number scale of pain (VNS) were administered at 6h, 7 days and 21 days after biopsy.

Acute Renal Injury After Major Elective Non-Cardiac Surgery
Acute Renal InjuryThe study is planned to be a single-center study and includes patients who underwent major surgery within Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine with an invasive arterial line. Our aim to define the incidence of acute renal injury in our setting and to investigate the risk factors listed in detailed description. After obtaining written informed consent from the patients, preoperative risk factors will be notes. Following standard anesthesia monitoring as well as routine anesthesia induction and maintenance, invasive arterial monitoring will be performed due to the major surgery and hemodynamic values will be recorded throughout the surgery. The primary outcome will be acute renal injury based on KDIGO's (Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes) definition of acute renal damage. Postoperative data regarding this outcome as well as additional data listed in detailed description will be collected.

Traumatic Spinal Cord InjuryPeople who lose function of the lower limb due to spinal cord injury (SCI) need to use their arms for activities of daily life especially during weight-bearing tasks, such as transfers, and manual wheelchair (MWC) propulsion in order to maintain mobility. Persistent use of the upper limbs constitutes biomechanical difficulties, especially in the shoulder joint. The most commonly affected area in the shoulder is supraspinatus and biceps tendon. Four different stoke patterns have been classified in MWC users. Distinct amounts of force may be applied to the shoulder joint during propulsion with different stroke patterns and this can affect the shoulder tendons in different rates. In this study, investigators aimed to evaluate and compare the acute sonographic changes in supraspinatus and biceps tendons after a wheelchair propelling test in MWC users with SCI with different stroke patterns. Also, it is intended to determine the risk factors related to the stroke patterns that may be associated with these sonographic changes.

The Molecular Anatomy of Oral Wound Healing
Wounds and InjuriesWound Healing1 moreBackground: Two important properties distinguish the healing process of skin wounds from that of wounds of the mucous membranes of the mouth (oral mucosa). Although the skin and the oral mucosa tissues are similar in nature, oral mucosa have more rapid healing and a lack of scar tissue formation. However, oral wound healing in general has been poorly studied, and more information is needed to determine how specific aspects of the oral environment affect the healing process. Researchers are interested in identifying various factors that contribute to oral wound healing. Studying this process would help researchers explore procedures to accelerate the healing of critically-sized oral lesions formed by trauma, surgery, radiation therapy, infection, and other damage to the mouth. In addition, research into scar-free healing could be applied to other mucosal sites to promote healing and minimize unsightly scars that may compromise the tissue. Objectives: - To identify the specific factors that enable rapid and nearly scar-free healing of oral mucosa. Eligibility: Healthy male volunteers between 18 and 40 years of age. Regular cigarette, cigar, and pipe smokers; occasional smokers who smoke more than 1 day a week or have smoked in the prior month; users of chewing tobacco or betel nut; and heavy drinkers (three or more alcoholic drinks per day) will be excluded. Design: Participants will have a medical history and examination, and will provide blood samples at the start of the study. Participants will provide oral mucosa samples from the inside of the cheek, taken using a dermal punch. At the same time, participants will provide skin biopsy samples of approximately the same size. After the skin and oral mucosa samples are taken, participants will be divided into three groups for follow-up procedures. Group 1: No further samples will be collected. This group will help document the normal healing process. Group 2: A second, slightly larger biopsy, which will include the area of the first biopsy, will be taken on day 3. Both skin and oral mucosa biopsies will be taken. Group 3: A second, slightly larger biopsy will be taken on day 6, in a similar way as described for Group 2. Both skin and oral mucosa biopsies will be taken. Wounds will be photographed with a digital camera on days 3, 6, 9, 13, and 15; and the healing will be monitored at the scheduled clinic visits.
