Impact of Immediate Point-of-Care Ultrasound on Patients With Cardiopulmonary Symptoms in the Emergency...

Chest PainDyspnea2 more

The purpose of the proposed research is to examine whether incorporating point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) early in diagnostic work-up of cardiopulmonary complaints will affect diagnosis, time to condition-specific intervention, and ultimately patient outcomes compared to usual care.

Role of Pulse Co-oximetry for Detecting Carbon Monoxide Poisoning in the Prehospital Emergency Medical...

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

The RAD-57 pulse CO-oximeter is a lightweight device allowing non-invasive measurement of blood carboxyhemoglobin. Previous studies comparing RAD-57 measurements (SpCO) to standard laboratory blood gas analysis (COHb) have reported contradictory results. the RAD-57 pulse CO-oximeter could be useful as a first-line screening test for acute CO poisoning, enabling rapid detection and management of patients with suspected CO poisoning in the prehospital emergency setting This study assesses the diagnostic value of pulse CO-oximetry, comparing SpCO to standard laboratory blood measurement for prehospital management of patients with suspected carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.

Early Oral Feeding vs Traditional Post-operative Care In Emergency Abdominal Surgeries

Perforated Duodenal Ulcer

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols have been widely studied in elective abdominal surgeries and have shown better outcomes. However the utility of these protocols in emergency abdominal surgeries has not been widely investigated. OBJECTIVE: To study the outcomes of application of ERAS protocols in patients undergoing perforated duodenal ulcers repairs in emergency abdominal surgeries. METHODS: This randomized controlled trial was conducted in Surgical Unit 1 BBH from August 2018 to December 2019 with a total sample size of 36 patients with the diagnosis of perforated duodenal ulcer. Patients were randomly divided in two groups. Group A consisted of early oral feeding group and group B consisted of traditional postoperative care group. Outcome results studied were the length of hospital stay, duodenal repair site leak, severity of pain (VAS score) and duration of post-operative ileus. Results were analysed on SPSS version 20 and chi-square and independent t-test were applied. KEY WORDS: Perforated duodenal ulcer, ERAS protocol, randomized controlled trial, duodenal repair site leak, length of hospital stay, VAS score, post-operative ileus

Decreasing ED Utilization by Nudging Patients to Call Their Providers

Emergency TreatmentTelephone Hotlines

In the present study, patients will be sent a message shortly after completing a medical procedure that informs or reminds them that they can reach out to Geisinger, and how to do it, if they have any medical issues or concerns. Researchers will assess if such messages make patients more likely to contact Geisinger with post-procedure medical concerns and decrease emergency department utilization.

Improving Cancer Survival and Reducing Treatment Variations With Protocols for Emergency Care

Cancer

Significant challenges and gaps remain in navigating transitions between acute care and outpatient care for many cancer survivors. This study underscores 1) implementation of Emergency Department (ED) risk-stratified treatments protocols that standardize patient care and would allow for rapid re-assessment and access to specialist care with well-coordinated cancer care plans, and 2) the significant numbers of minority cancer survivors seeking episodic care in the ED that are at increased risk of not receiving recommended post cancer treatment surveillance.

Preoperative Rapid Pou Ultrasound Assessment in Critically Ill Patients Undergoing Emergency Surgery...

Emergency Surgery

With the development of society, the number of emergency critical operations is increasing year by year. Traditionally, the patient's systemic and circulatory status is indirectly assessed by testing and blood pressure heart rate. There are cases where the diagnosis is imperfect and the results are unreliable. Preoperative POU rapid ultrasound is a preoperative bedside ultrasound evaluation method first proposed by the Anesthesiology Department of Huaxi Hospital (three engineering units). This project will cooperate with Huaxi Hospital to explore whether the effect of intraoperative anesthesia management under POU guidance is better than traditional anesthesia management. This study will provide a new preoperative evaluation anesthesia management program for emergency critically ill patients with important clinical and social significance.
