Long-Term Safety Of DVS-233 SR In Patients With Major Depressive Disorder

Major Depressive Disorder

The study evaluated the long-term safety of Desvenlafaxine Succinate (DVS) Slow Release (SR) during open-label treatment in adult outpatients who had a primary diagnosis of major depressive disorder (MDD). The study also evaluated the long-term response of subjects receiving DVS SR for clinical global evaluation, functionality, general well-being, pain, and absence of depressive symptoms (remission).

Efficacy and Safety of Cranial Electrical Stimulation (CES) for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)...

Major Depressive Disorder

The purpose of this study is to see if using Cranial Electrical Stimulation (CES) helps improve symptoms of major depressive disorder (MDD). The investigators are studying the device's effectiveness in treating depression, as well as its safety. This is a pilot study. Eligible participants will be randomly assigned to receive either active CES or sham CES, every weekday for 3 weeks. During the visits, subjects will receive CES or sham CES treatment for 20 minutes. The primary outcome measure will be change in score on the HAM-D 17. The secondary outcome measure will be change in patient-reported sleep score.

A Study of LY2216684 in Participants With Major Depression Disorder

Major Depressive Disorder

The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the long-term safety and tolerability of LY2216684 administered once daily in the adjunctive treatment with an Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI) for up to approximately 1 year in participants with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) who were partial responders to their SSRI treatment.

Aripiprazole and Resistant Postpartum Depression

Postpartum Depression

Currently there are no controlled data on the management of postpartum depression that fails to respond to adequate antidepressant therapy. The investigators recently reported that a large number of patients responded to the addition of atypical neuroleptics after having failed antidepressant trials. Aripiprazole used adjunctively to antidepressants is effective in patients with resistant depression but it has not been studied in patients with resistant postpartum depression. The investigators propose to conduct a 6 week open-label study to assess the effectiveness and tolerability of aripiprazole used adjunctively to antidepressants in patients with resistant postpartum depression.

Safety and Efficacy of Levomilnacipran ER (Levomilnacipran SR) in Major Depressive Disorder

Major Depressive Disorder

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of Levomilnacipran ER compared to placebo in patients with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD).

Omega-3 and Therapy Study for Depression

Depression

Childhood depression warrants treatment research; including pharmacological and psychotherapeutic interventions. A recent study found fluoxetine to be the only medication with empirical support for decreasing depression in children, but concerns about treatment-emergent suicidal ideation/behavior led the FDA to mandate black-box warning for use of antidepressants in this age group (Bridge et al, 2007). These worries have prompted interest in alternative therapies including dietary supplements such as omega-3 fatty acids (Ω3). The current study compares Ω3, psychoeducational psychotherapy (PEP), and their combination to a placebo supplement and active monitoring (AM) in a 12-week trial of 60 children with unipolar depression. Primary goals are to determine: 1) feasibility of a) recruiting 60 participants in 24 months; b) retaining participants over a 12-week trial; and 2) effect sizes for Ω3, PEP, and combination treatment. Secondary goals are to explore response curves over time, mediators and moderators, treatment response across an array of outcome variables, adherence to treatment, and side effects. This pilot study of Ω3, PEP, and combined treatment will provide evidence about whether a larger trial is feasible and justifiable.

tDCS as an add-on Treatment for Resistant Major Depression in Uni- or Bipolar Patients

Resistant DepressionMoods Disorders2 more

The aim is to investigate the effect of transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) applied at the anodal left CDLPF of patients with resistant depression compared to patients treated with conventional therapy. The tDCS is used in add-on drug treatment in resistant depression stabilized for 4 weeks (antidepressant as SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) or SNRIs (Serotonine-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors) for unipolar patients and lithium for bipolar patients). The delay of 4 weeks is a minimum to observe a non-response. Moreover, in term of ethical point of view, it's difficult to wait 6 to 8 weeks to observe the non-response to treatment. This is a randomized 2-arm parallel, double blind study comparing 2 groups of 60 patients (48 unipolar plus 12 bipolar patients per group. Patients will be selected in the psychiatric department of the University Hospital of different centers and the two groups are matched for age (+/- 5 years), gender and depression diagnosis (unipolar vs bipolar). After giving informed consent, patients will be evaluated by a psychiatrist using the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS), Montgomery Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS), the STAI and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and for bipolar patient only, by the Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS). The complete assessment takes 50 minutes. A neuropsychologist assessment will be also realized during 20 minutes using the Crossing of Test (COT), the Trail Making Test (TMT), the Isaacs Set Test (IST) and the Cardebat fluency Task. After locating the left DLPFC, treatment with active tDCS with a current of 2 mA or sham will be directed by 30-minute session. A psychometric assessment will be conducted again at the end of treatment week and 4, 12 and finally 24 weeks after stopping treatment. The neuropsychologist assessment will be conducted again 4 weeks after the end of treatment. Scales of comfort and acceptability will also be proposed to the patient to determine whether any gene is caused by this treatment. These people will be recruited on a voluntary basis, after notification and consent in the 6 research centers. This study was conducted over a period of 36 months. This study was supporting by a grant from the French Hospital Program of Clinical Reseach (PHRC N/2011-60-2011-A01074-37)

Anti-INFLammatory to Address Mood and Endothelial Dysfunction (INFLAMED)

Major Depressive DisorderDepression4 more

The objective of this clinical trial is to evaluate whether an anti-inflammatory medication, pentoxifylline, reduces depressive symptoms and improves artery function. Participants in this trial will be older primary care patients (60 years and up) who are depressed but do not have a history of cardiovascular disease. Half of these patients will receive pentoxifylline, and half will receive placebo. In addition, participants in both arms will receive an evidence-based psychological treatment called Beating the Blues®, which is a computerized, cognitive behavioral treatment program for depression. The investigators will use questionnaires to assess change in depressive symptoms and an ultrasound test to measure change in artery function from pre- to post-treatment. It is hypothesized that patients who receive pentoxifylline will show greater improvements in both depression and artery function than patients who receive placebo.
