Retrospective Study of the Relationship Between Human Papillomavirus Genotype and Cervical Epithelial...

Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection plays a key role in the carcinogenesis of cervical cancer and pre-invasive lesions. There are hundred types of HPV, including high risk and low risk types, and it is proved the close association between the cervical cancer and high risk HPV. While HPV 16 and 18 are known to be the leading two genotypes detected in women with cervical neoplasm worldwide, there is considerable difference in the other prevalent high risk genotypes in different geographic areas. It is important to establish the local database about the cervical intraepithelial lesions and the related prevalent HPV genotypes. The investigators designed a retrospective study which included total 784 patients managed at our hospital from January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2007. The present study was to investigate the HPV genotypes in the Taiwanese female patients with abnormal cervical cytology and analyses the association between HPV types and cervical pre-invasive lesions. It could provide the guide for the clinicians in the management of patients with abnormal cytological change of Pap smear.

Less than 10% of all ischemic stroke patients are treated by intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) as most present later than the accepted 3 hour time window. Intra-arterial thrombolysis (IAT) is possible 3-6 hours post ictus, but is infrequently used. Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) with a MERCI device is a new intervention possibility but lacks large randomized studies. Although it is desirable to treat more stroke patients, clinical information and plain CT alone are insufficient to discriminate which patients are most likely to benefit or be harmed from treatment. Advanced imaging techniques can help predict patient outcome and provide the necessary information to weigh expected benefit against associated risk of treatment. Visualizing the penumbra, the hypoperfused tissue at risk of infarction around the irreversible infarct core, is one way of identifying patients most likely to benefit from intervention. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) based selection of patients with sufficient penumbra for thrombolysis is possible, however, MR has less 24-hour availability than CT in the acute setting. Plain CT is mostly used to exclude intracerebral hemorrhage, and can easily be extended with CT perfusion (CTP) and CT angiography (CTA). CTP compares well to MRI for imaging penumbra and infarct core, and it is faster and more feasible than MRI. Other image findings such as infarct core size and leakage of the blood-brain-barrier (permeability) on CTP, and site and extent of the occlusion and collateral circulation on CTA also influence stroke outcome but have not been combined in one study to assess their combined predictive value. Hypothesis: The investigators hypothesize that combined CTP and CTA parameters can predict patient outcome in acute ischemic stroke.

The aim of the study is to compare the diagnostic value of this non-invasive vascular imaging tool with the established vascular diagnostic methods for PAD in order to get prognostic data. A higher sensitivity of Fluorescence angiography in order to recognize progression of critical limb ischemia could lead to earlier therapeutic interventions and thereby increase limb salvage. A diagnostic gap would be closed.

Muscle Tissue Oxygenation in Patients With Decompensated Liver Cirrhosis

Patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis exhibit numerous hemodynamic and microvascular changes, i.e., low systemic blood pressure and peripheral vasodilatation. In addition, alterations of tissue oxygenation are described in these patients. Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) has been proposed as a tool to quantify microvascular dysfunction, for example in patients with sepsis (1) or after trauma (2). NIRS is a non-invasive technique that uses the differential absorption properties of oxygenated and desoxygenated hemoglobin to evaluate skeletal muscle oxygenation (3). Up to the investigators' knowledge no data exist on NIRS measurements in patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis. Aims of this study are to evaluate: Are there any changes in NIRS parameters in patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis in comparison to other critically ill patients (matched to SAPS II Score) or healthy individuals? Is there a correlation with common accepted prognostic scores (MELD Score or indocyanin green clearance) in decompensated liver cirrhosis patients and initial NIRS parameters? Does the NIRS trend within the first three days of ICU care in decompensated liver cirrhosis patients receiving fluid replacement therapy correlate with the course of disease? All Children Admitted to the EDChildren With Fever

Objective To evaluate the accuracy of data acquisition by Health e pod device in measurement of body temperature, to compare it to a standard body temperature measure equipment About 400 consecutive patients admitted to PEU in Assaf Harofeh Medical Center will compile the Study Population. Basic vital signs will be recorded on admission and during hospitalization as per the PEU policy and not in particular for this study. As a part of routine check-up all admitted patients undergo body temperature measure (oral or rectal - as per the PEU policy and with PEU devices). Following an explanation and patient agreement, eligible patients (and their legal guardian) will sign informed consent and enter the study. The health e pod device will be applied to measure body temperature, immediately after the standard temperature measure has been performed by the PEU professional.

Objective: To investigate the role of maternal serum YKL-40 and uterine artery doppler, at gestational age 12, 20, 25 and 32 weeks, and the relation to preeclampsia and intrauterine growth restriction. The serum marker YKL-40 is related to conditions involving inflammation, infection, tissue remodeling, fibrosis and cancer. IUGR and preeclampsia are known to be related to inflammation and tissue remodeling. Methods: women attending screening for downs syndrome is scanned with uterine artery doppler and delivered blood samples at GA 12, 20, 25 and 32 respectively. When pregnancy outcome is registered by medical records blood samples are retrieved and analyzed for serum YKL-40. Serum YKL-40 are correlated to the presence of bilateral notching, preeclampsia and different degrees of intrauterine growth restriction.
