To quantify potential short- and long-term benefits of robotically-guided minimally invasive spine surgery (MIS) for adult patients with lower back degeneration, in comparison a matching group of control patients operated in a minimally invasive approach whether freehand or with image guidance or navigation techniques.

The aim of the study is to find out prevalence of diabetic macular edema (DME) in patients with diabetes mellitus in Slovak Republic.The outcome of the project will be epidemiology survey, prevalence of wet form of Diabetic Macular Edema in relation to duration of diabetes, type of diabetes, treatment (insulin vs. OAD or combination) etc. and identification of prognostic factors leading to development of DME.

Hypotheses: Decompressive surgery of cervical myelopathy will improve bladder function. Decompressive surgery of cervical myelopathy will improve sexual function.

Increased intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) affects pulmonary dynamics. However, little is studied whether pulmonary dynamics affects IAP. This will be a retrospective chart review of 880-1000 patients who had a colonoscopy and were found to have a tubular adenoma between the years of 2004-2008. We will compare the rate and timing of completion of repeat colonoscopies pre and post establishment of a polyp registry (tracking system) in 2006. Each group will be composed of up to 500 subjects consecutively identified from all the patients who underwent colonoscopy and were found to have a tubular adenoma (Group 1-2004 to 2006, Group 2 2007-2008).

The pathogenesis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is debatable. Looking for an insult to lung parenchyma that generates the pathogenesis of the disease is challenging. Pepsin is a proteolytic enzyme present in the gastric juice. Microaspirations of gastric content were described as a potential factor for injury in many chronic lung disorders. Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) is a routine investigation technique in interstitial lung diseases. The presence of pepsin in the BAL fluid recovered from patients with IPF may indicate a possible role for gastric microaspirations in the pathogenesis of the disease.

This study evaluates cognitive impairment in subjects with Parkinson disease (PD) and similar neurological disorder through obtaining longitudinal clinical and neuropsychological data. The long term goal is to have a well-characterized subject population to contribute to our understanding of the natural history, diagnosis and ultimate treatment of cognitive impairment in patients with PD and similar disorders.
