The Project ATA: Adipose Tissue & Adipokines

Sedentary BehaviorOverweight1 more

It is essential to delve deeper into the molecular and tissue aspects that allow us to recognize the roles of adipose tissue and its interaction with the musculoskeletal (i.e., adipomyokines) to facilitate the identification of biomarkers that can complement the assessment of body composition. Thus, investigators posed the following research question: what characteristics of adipose tissue can investigators consider to rethink assessment for the diagnosis and treatment of obesity? The 'Project ATA' is a cross-sectional study based on the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology-Nutritional Epidemiology (STROBE-nut) guidelines, an Extension of the STROBE Statement. The FINER strategy (Feasible, Interesting, Novel, Ethical, and Relevant) and previously published guidelines for organizing a multicenter study will be followed. The 'Project ATA' will test the associations of several morphological metrics and adipomyokines in order to both profile populations with excess body fat and to establish practical geographical-based recommendations for practitioners.

A Drug-Drug Interaction Study to Examine the Impact of Itraconazole and Cyclosporine on PF-07081532...

Healthy

This is a Phase 1, open-label, fixed-sequence, 3-period study to evaluate the effect of multiple doses of itraconazole and a single dose of cyclosporine on the single-dose PK of PF-07081532 in otherwise healthy, overweight or obese, adult female and male participants. The 3 study periods will be conducted consecutively without a break.

Developmental Endothelial Locus-1, Platelet Count, and Soluble P-selectin in Overweight and Obese...

Overweight and Obesity

This observational study aims to detect serum levels of Developmental Endothelial Locus-1 (DEL-1), Platelet Count, and Soluble P-selectin (sP-sel) in Overweight and Obese Subjects. The main questions it aims to answer are: Is there a difference in serum DEl-1 levels in overweight and obese subjects compared to normal subjects? Are there any relations between serum DEL-1 levels, sP-sel, and platelet count in overweight and obese subjects ?

Effects of Core Strengthening on Mechanical Low Back Pain in Overweight Adults.

Low Back PainMechanical1 more

The goal of this clinical trial is to determine the effects of core strengthening on mechanical back pain in overweight adults. The main question is aims to answer: Is there an effect of core strengthening on mechanical back pain in overweight adults? The participants will be divided into two groups; group A and group B Group A will perform core strengthening after baseline treatment of therapeutic hot pack and Trans continuous mode for 10 minutes. Group B will perform conventional exercises after baseline treatment of therapeutic hot pack and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. continuous mode for 10 minutes. Each exercise will be repeated 10 times, with 10 second holds, followed by a five-minute rest interval.

Microbiome-Tailored Food Products Based On Typical Mediterranean Diet Components

MicrobiotaOverweight and Obesity1 more

The composition and functions of the microbiome impact human metabolism and health status. Diet plays a fundamental role in shaping the structure of the gut microbiome, modulating the interaction between the gut microbiome and the human host. Western dietary patterns including a high consumption of red and processed meat, refined grains and sugars, and dairy products have been associated with a high incidence of chronic diseases. It is widely recognised that there is a higher consumption of plant-based foods in Mediterranean countries than in other Western countries. The Mediterranean diet involves a high intake of fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, minimally processed cereals, moderate consumption of fish and a low consumption of saturated fats, meat and dairy products with regular intake of extra virgin olive oil. The Mediterranean diet reduces the incidence of cardiovascular, metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases. Interesting results emerged from the evaluation of the microbiome-metabolome interaction, which shows that individuals with the highest adherence to the Mediterranean diet had much higher levels of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) and increased levels of the beneficial fiber-degrading bacteria compared to subjects with low adherence to the Mediterranean diet. The study of the effect on the microbiota of specific foods with anti-inflammatory/antioxidant properties is interesting and of potential clinical impact.

Effect of a Protein Intake on Weight Loss of Overweight/Obese Adults

ObesityWeight Loss1 more

Obesity is considered the epidemic of the 21st century. Obesity is a multifactorial disease and the most important risk factors are poor diet and sedentary lifestyle. An excessive body weight contributes to increase the risk of suffering from other diseases and mortality rates. Therefore, the prevention and control of excessive body weight as well as its comorbidities are essential. In this sense, the principal strategy to treat obesity is to improve dietary habits and increase physical activity. However, the rate of obesity continues rising. In order to deal with this problem, new strategies to combat obesity are being investigated, such as the investigation of new bioactive compounds with satiating capacity that can be included in healthy dietary patterns to improve adherence to dietary treatments. Considering this background, the main objective of this research is to assess the effect of daily consumption of protein rich bars accompanied by healthy dietary recommendations on weight loss of overweight/obese adult men and women.

Project THRIVE: Evaluating Different Approaches to Dietary Self-Monitoring for Weight Loss

ObesityOverweight

This randomized pilot trial will compare two approaches to dietary self-monitoring for weight loss in the context of a low-intensity, remotely-delivered lifestyle modification program. Participants (N=40) will be randomized to perform detailed self-monitoring of all food and drink consumed each day or a reduced frequency, partial prescription involving recording only a subset of daily intake. The investigators will compare differences in weight loss as well as on relevant mechanistic, behavioral outcomes between groups at 12 weeks.

Personalized Obesity Management - Matching Dietary Fibers and Microbial Enterotype

Overweight and ObesityWeight Loss

The overall aim of this 12-week randomized controlled trial is to investigate if a dietary fiber supplement rich in arabinoxylans (AX) affects weight loss success differently according to baseline gut microbiota composition in subjects who have overweight or obesity. 105 participants will be randomized in a 2:1 ratio to receive 15 g/day of AX or placebo.
