Targeted next generation sequencing of a panel of genes will be performed on tumour specimens and results will be discussed at a Sequencing Tumour Board to establish if a patient is potentially suitable for a targeted therapy.

AdenocarcinomaAdenocarcinoma19 moreThe MERCURY Study demonstrated the accuracy, feasibility and reproducibility of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to stage rectal cancer in a prospective, multidisciplinary, multi-centre study. However, there were differences in patient outcome, dependent upon the position of the tumour in the rectum and its height above the anal verge. Whilst the outcome was excellent for patients who underwent an anterior resection, the outcome, based upon margin involvement and quality of the specimen, was poor for patients who underwent an abdomino-perineal excision for low rectal cancer. It is proposed that accurate MRI staging pre-operatively will allow the correct patients to receive neo-adjuvant chemoradiotherapy (CRT), and also pre-warn the surgeons if the resection margins appear threatened so that the operation can be modified to take this into account. The primary aims of the Low Rectal Cancer Study (MERCURY II) are to assess the rate of CRM positivity rate in low rectal cancer and to assess the difference in global quality of life at two years post surgery in patients according to plane of surgery with or without sphincter preservation.

Patients Who Underwent Gastrectomy With Lymph Node Dissection for Gastric CancerGastric cancer is still one of the main health care issue and gastrectomy with lymph node dissection is the only chance to be cure. Even though the development and standardization of gastric cancer surgery, the morbidity of gastric cancer surgery was reported around 20% with less than 1% of mortality in East. In contrast, around 40% of morbidity and 10% of mortality was reported in West. There has been several indexes which can define the complications after surgery, but adapting it into clinical practice is sometimes difficult due to the heterogeneous opinion between surgeons. Thus for clear defining the complications after surgery, consensus between many surgeons and prospective cohort study is necessary. The purpose of this study is collecting the complications data after gastric cancer surgery and defining it with every week meeting by at least 6 or more surgeons' discussion.

Ovarian CancerThe investigators want to compare the use of MRI with PET/CT preformed after 1 hour and 3 hours in preoperative assessment of resectability. The investigators' hypothesis is that dual time PET/CT performed at 60 and 180 minutes will increase the diagnostic accuracy of conventional PET (performed at 60 minutes) in preoperative assessment of resectability. Further more the investigators suggest that the GLUT/G6Pase index correlates to the SUVmax. And retention index (RI, see Methods - PET protocol) is a prognostic marker in ovarian cancer.

Lung CancerRationale: With 1.6 million new cases diagnosed each year and 1.3 million deaths, lung cancer is the leading cancer-related death worldwide and it represents a pressing health issue. Patients with lung cancer are more likely to experience cachexia, a severe debilitating disorder causing fatigue, weight loss, muscle wasting and associated with reduced physical function, increased chemotherapy toxicity and reduced survival. This syndrome occurring in about 80% of advanced cancer patients is the direct cause of death in about 20% of cases. However, despite the importance of cachexia in lung cancer, it has been mainly studied from several assessment methods which do not usually differentiate muscle from other tissues. Aim: To analyze body composition of patients with lung cancer at diagnosis using computed tomography (CT-Scan) image analysis. Methods: This is a retrospective study extending over a period of 3 years conducted at the Institut universitaire de cardiologie et de pneumologie de Québec (2009-2012). We listed patients newly diagnosed with lung cancer who had a thoraco-abdominal CT-scan performed in our institution. Following the collection of clinical data from patient records, we used SliceOmatic software to quantify muscle area, visceral fat area and subcutaneous fat area from a single abdominal cross-sectional image at the level of the third lumbar vertebra.
