The purpose of this study is to assess the safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity of a booster dose of vaccine in participants who are generally healthy or with stable pre-existing health conditions. Study details include: The study duration per participant will be approximately 209 days (28 days screening, 1 day vaccination, and 180 days follow-up). Part 1: Primary Vaccination in Adults Part 1 will evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of the recombinant two component COVID-19 vaccine (CHO cell) (ReCOV for short) in adults aged 18 years and older, when administered as 2 intramuscular doses, 21 days apart. Part 2: Booster Vaccination in Adults Part 2 will evaluate the immunogenicity and safety and of one booster dose of ReCOV in adult participants who have received primary vaccination with 2 doses of an inactivated COVID-19 vaccine (CoronaVac®). COMIRNATY®, an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine will be used as the active control.

Overall design:An open experimental design was adopted in this study, and 300 subjects were planned to be enrolled. Study population:The study involved people 18 years of age and older. Test groups:A total of 300 cases were enrolled. 240 patients in 18-59 years old group, 60 patients in ≥60 years old group. Phase II/III Study of the AVX/COVID-12 Vaccine Against COVID-19 Applied as a Booster.

SARS-CoV-2 Infection

This is a phase II/III parallel, double-blind, active-controlled, non-inferiority study to evaluate immunogenicity and safety of a booster immunization scheme of a single intramuscular dose of the recombinant vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 (AVX/COVID-12 vaccine) based on live recombinant Newcastle disease virus (rNDV) vector in healthy adults with a history of vaccination against COVID-19. The study is divided into two phases with immuno-bridging and 3000 healthy subjects showing evidence of prior immunity to SARS-CoV-2 are estimated to enrol. To verify non-inferiority in a determined number of subjects an intramuscular dose of the COVID-19 vaccine (ChAdOx-1-S[recombinant]) shall be used as active control in originally randomised subjects. The study shall be carried out in several sites of clinical research in Mexico.

In the COVID-19 healthcare crisis, one possible treatment therapy that has generated the most discussion is that of proning, or the position in which the patient lays face down as opposed to face up for a period of time. As the pandemic continues, this method has been more widely adopted to increase oxygen saturation in patients in respiratory distress. While proning research is both ongoing and extensive in the ICU population of COVID-19 patients, minimal research has been conducted with acute care patients. The researchers aim to address this gap with this study. The researchers used a systematic approach to educate patients and staff about patient self-proning, implementing self-proning every 2 hours, and monitoring escalation of oxygen levels, as well as length of stay in the acute care unit. The researchers hypothesized an improvement in oxygen saturation levels as evidenced by no escalation of respiratory care (i.e. higher levels of oxygen needed, transfer to higher level of care), resulting in shorter lengths of stay for the intervention population.
