Defining a PK and PD Model for Peripheral Analgesia After IV Oxytocin

Acute PainChronic Pain1 more

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn about oxytocin ( a naturally occurring hormone made in the brain that transmits messages) and the effects it may have on thermal heat pain after intravenous administration. The main question it aims to define is the time course of change in pain score after a 5 minute heating of the skin administered at intervals during and following infusion of intravenous oxytocin in order to create a Pharmacokinetic and a Pharmacodynamic model for oxytocin-induced analgesia. Participants will be asked to rate thermal heat temperatures before, during and after the intravenous infusion of oxytocin.

Effectiveness of a Virtual Reality Game for Pediatric Pain and Anxiety Management During Skin Prick...

Acute Pain

This study investigated the effectiveness of virtual reality (VR) distraction, compared to book distraction and no distraction, in reducing pain and anxiety during a medical procedure in a pediatric population: the skin prick test. Although this test has many advantages and is considered to be minimally invasive, it causes anxiety and painful discomfort in children. This study concerns children aged 4 to 7 years consulting for an allergic test. Outcome measures include pain score, level of anxiety, VR measures, and satisfaction questionnaires.

REmotely-delivered Supportive Programs for Improving Surgical Pain and disTrEss

Postoperative PainAcute4 more

The purpose of this research study is to learn how two different supportive programs may help women feel better after surgery. This study will measure if one type of supportive program is more useful than the other for improving wellbeing after surgery.

White Noise and Therapeutic Touch on Pain and Comfort Level in Newborns During Heel Lance

PainAcute1 more

This randomized controlled study was planned to evaluate the effects of listening to white noise and therapeutic touch on physiological parameters, pain and comfort level during the heel blood collection procedure on infants who gave birth at 32 weeks and above and were given to their mothers in Atatürk Training and Research Hospital.

Effect of Paracetamol and Ketorolac on RANK-L Levels in Patients Starting Orthodontic Treatment...

MalocclusionPain1 more

Due to the high prevalence of malocclusions in Mexico and the existing concern to improve aesthetics, function (chewing), or both, patients resort to orthodontic treatment. The patient may experience pain during treatment due to the release of different chemical mediators such as RANK-L. Analgesic and anti-inflammatory medications such as acetaminophen and ketorolac are used to control pain during orthodontic tooth movement. These drugs can inhibit the expression of RANK-L which can affect tooth movement, inhibiting bone remodeling. The orthodontist should indicate the drug that is safest for the patient without affecting treatment or tooth movement.

PENG Block With Two Diffirent Volume

PainAcute2 more

Hip fractures are morbid conditions, especially in elderly patients, and their treatment is usually surgical. Pericapsular nerve group block is a newly defined block and targets the hip capsule. The aim of this study is to investigate and compare the perioperative analgesic efficacy of PENG blocks applied in two different volumes in patients undergoing hip fracture surgery under spinal anesthesia.

App for Acute Pain Service in Major Surgery

Mobile ApplicationsPain3 more

The app will be installed on the patient's smartphone before surgery. Patients will receive reminders to record their pain intensity and opioid-related side effects at the pre-determined time points until at least 2 days after surgery. The patient's compliance with the reminders will be assessed. On the second postoperative day, their satisfaction with pain control and app usage will be evaluated. Patients can also provide feedback on any issues they have encountered with the app during the study period.

Brain Mechanisms Supporting Cannabis-induced Pain Relief

PainAcute

The American Academy of Pain Medicine has labeled pain as a "silent epidemic" due to its staggering costs to society (over $500 billion/year) and widespread prevalence (affects over 100 million Americans). Thus, it is imperative to test and validate cost-effective pain therapies. To this extent, cannabis is characterized as one of the most promising therapies to treat a wide spectrum of pain conditions. However, the clinical applicability of cannabis-based pain therapies has been limited due to lacking mechanistic characterization in human-focused studies. Of critical importance, the neural mechanisms supporting cannabis induced pain relief remain unknown. The primary objective of the proposed pilot study is to identify the brain mechanisms supporting the direct alleviation of acutely evoked pain through vaporized cannabis.
