Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation During Outpatient Endometrial Biopsy

Endometrial DiseasesPain1 more

The purpose of this study is to see whether transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (or TENS) reduces pain during an endometrial biopsy. A TENS unit is an over-the-counter, FDA approved device that sends low-level electrical impulses through the skin to reduce the amount of discomfort experienced during procedures. A TENS unit is very low-risk and used in a lot of ways, including for chronic pain, after surgery, and during labor. Since there is no standard way of managing discomfort during an endometrial biopsy, the investigators think that TENS might be helpful. Participating in the study may require some additional time in clinic to answer research-related questions. Subjects will be asked to answer demographic questions (which will be combined anonymously) before and after the procedure, as well as rate subject's pain at different time points during the procedure. The biggest benefit in participating is that subject's discomfort might be lower during and after the procedure. Subjects may not benefit from participating in this study. There is a small risk of a skin reaction from wearing the TENS pads.

Postoperative Symptoms Following Endodontic Microsurgery

Pain PostoperativeSwelling Lips & Face

Aims: The purpose of this randomized clinical trial is to assess and compare the post operative pain, swelling and quality of life after endodontic microsurgery using either conventional osteotomy or piezoelectric osteotomy . The PICO question that will be used is Does endodontic microsurgery using piezoelectric osteotomy have similar clinical performance in terms of post operative pain and swelling to that of endodontic microsurgery using conventional hand-piece osteotomy. Material and methods: based on solid inclusion criteria , a total of 44 patients in need of endodontic microsurgery will be randomly distributed into two groups (n=22) according to the osteotomy technique: conventional and piezoelectric osteotomy. A standardized microsurgical technique will be employed. After the microsurgery procedure, a pain questionnaire that contain visual analogue scale will be given to each patient to evaluate the pain incidence and intensity at 5 time intervals, 24 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours, 96 hours and 120 hours. The patients will be recalled as well, at days 2 and 7 to evaluate the swelling. Statistical analysis will be performed using chi-square test and linear regression analysis.

IPACK on Early Pain Scores After ACL Reconstruction

PainPostoperative3 more

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn whether using an anesthetic technique called IPACK block will control pain after ACL reconstruction surgery. The main questions it aims to answer are: if participants who receive the IPACK block prior to ACL reconstruction experience less pain after surgery and at 1 day after surgery if participants who receive the IPACK block prior to ACL reconstruction require less short-term opioid use immediately after surgery and up to one week after surgery. Participants will be randomized 1:1 to 1 of 2 groups: Use of IPACK block during ACL reconstruction vs. placebo (a placebo is a look-alike substance that contains no active drug). Neither the participant nor the investigator will know which group the participants has been assigned to. Researchers will compare self-reported pain scores and short-term opioid use of all study participants.

Acupuncture for Prevention of Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting After Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy...

CholecystitisAcute7 more

The purpose is to find out if intraoperative acupuncture performed by needling PC 6 and LI4 point bilaterally, and Yin Tang point will help reduce the incidence postoperative nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy when added to a prophylactic regimen consisting of ondansetron and dexamethasone. The hypothesis is that the addition of this acupuncture treatment to ondansetron and dexamethasone given for prophylaxis will help reduce the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy when compared to patients receiving ondansetron and dexamethasone without acupuncture.

Cryoanalgesia Study

PainPostoperative

This study will investigate the feasibility of cryoanalgesia in patients undergoing cardiac surgery via a median sternotomy. Cryoanalgesia is a technique that uses extremely cold temperatures to temporarily ablate nerves and block pain signals. Cryoanalgesia has been used for decades for pain control after thoracic surgery and has been associated with decreased opioid consumption, decreased pain scores, and shorter hospital stays. The results of this study may lead to a useful alternative for pain control in cardiac surgery patients.

CMP vs Fascia Iliaca Block

PainPostoperative1 more

Complete motorsparing protocol (CMP) has been developed to try to minimize the motor nerve block that is created when using Facia iliaca nerve block. The blocks performed in the (CMP) are the cluneal nerve block, Pericapsular nerve group block and lateral femoral cutaneous block. On the clinical trial, the investigators will randomize the participants that meet criteria to CMP or Fascia iliaca Block and compare the amount of opioid needed post op during 24 hours and their pain scores.

Effect of Using Placental Membranes on Healing and Post-op Pain After Gum Surgery

PainPostoperative1 more

When harvesting autogenous free grafts to treat periodontal conditions (e.g., lack of attached keratinized tissue, ridge defects, and other mucogingival deformities), the hard palate is the preferred donor site. The primary disadvantage of this technique is the creation of a second surgical site. This sacrificial traumatic lesion on the palate is associated with significant post-operative morbidities, including patient discomfort, infection, inflammation, hemorrhage, and necrosis. A pilot, blinded Randomized Control Trial will be conducted with subjects who are treatment planned to receive free gingival graft palatal harvest surgery. The palatal wound donor site for treatment group 1 will not receive an allograft membrane; while the donor site for treatment group 2 will receive an amnion-chorion allograft membrane (BioXclude) secured with a suture. The severity of pain at the palatal wound site will be assessed using an at home survey (Visual Analog Scale, Pain Catastrophizing Scale, & Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System Scale). The healing of the palatal donor site will be evaluated quantitatively and qualitatively (PVS impression, optical scan, endoscopy, and ultrasnonography).
