Diode Laser With Periodontal Flap Surgery in Periodontitis

PeriodontitisAggressive2 more

The authors theorize that periodontal flap surgery therapy with adjunctive DL therapy might bring favourable therapy results (clinical and bacterial parameters) in patients with stage 3-grade C periodontitis. Therefore, the goal of this split-mouth randomized clinical trial was to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of the treatment results for DL assisted modified Widman Flap (MWF) surgery (test site) with MWF surgery alone (control site) in periodontitis patients with stage 3-grade C by determining the changes in clinical parameters and bacterial load of pathogens (P.g., T.d., Camplyobacter rectus (C.r.), Prevotella intermedia (P.i.), T.f., A.a.) at preoperative and following MWF surgery at 6th week, 3rd and 6th months

The Impact of Interpretation Bias Modification Training on Anger and Reactive Aggression

Anger

Difficulties with anger control are reported in a number of psychological conditions and are associated with social problems, such as dating violence and workplace violence. High trait anger is a personality construct characterized by elevations in the frequency, duration, and intensity of anger episodes. However, the cognitive processes contributing to high trait anger are still poorly understood. This study will examine the effectiveness of a computer-based cognitive bias modification (CBM) program designed to target hostile interpretations associated with high trait anger.

Amoxicillin and Metronidazole in Association With Non-surgical Therapy in Aggressive Periodontitis...

Generalized Aggressive Periodontitis

This study is designed as a parallel, masked, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial to assess the clinical, microbiological, and immunological outcomes of scaling and root planning (SRP) or full-mouth ultrasonic debridement (FMUD) with AM (Amoxicillin + Metronidazole) for the treatment of Generalized Aggressive Periodontitis (GAgP).

Can Cognitive Training Decrease Reactive Aggression?

SchizophreniaCognitive Deficits3 more

The purpose of the study is to examine the effects of cognitive training on emotion regulation, impulse control, and aggression in people with schizophrenia. The study compares a combination of computerized cognitive remediation and social cognition training (CRT+SCT) to cognitive remediation alone (CRT). Study outcomes include multiple measures of aggression, emotion regulation, impulse control, cognition, and symptoms.

A Study to Evaluate the Efficacy and Safety of SPN-810 as Adjunctive Therapy in Children With Impulsive...

Impulsive Aggression Comorbid With ADHD

This will be a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, dose-ranging, efficacy and safety study in children with impulsive aggression comorbid with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The target subjects are healthy male and female children aged 6 to 12 years, inclusive, with a diagnosis of ADHD. A total of 120 subjects will be randomized across approximately 30 US centers to one of four treatment groups.

Depakote (Divalproex Sodium) for Children With Temper Dysregulation and Severe Mood Swings

Irritable Aggression

Though the Disruptive Disorders of Childhood and Adolescence are a major source of morbidity and fill a large proportion of special education slots, specific pharmacologic treatment is available only for those children with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Other disruptive children are usually said to "have" Oppositional Defiant or Conduct Disorder. These diagnoses are useful descriptively but they do not have specific treatment implications In the course of treating adolescents with explosive tempers and severe mood swings with Depakote (divalproex sodium), the investigators learned that younger children manifest symptoms that seemed identical to those constituting the adolescent disorder. They were in special education programs and not responding to psychostimulants. The investigators systematically collected data on these children using the same screening criteria as in our studies of adolescents. Since Depakote has been used to treat seizures in children for more than twenty years, a great deal was known about its safety profile in the pediatric population. The investigators treated 7 children, age 7-12, whose recurrent temper outbursts and chronic mood lability did not respond to individual/family therapy. After parents signed informed consent and children gave assent, these subjects would receive open label Depakote in doses sufficient to reach a blood level between 50-100 micrograms/ml for six weeks. The family received supportive therapy.

Treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Aggressive Behavior in Soldiers and Ex-combatants...

Posttraumatic Stress DisorderAggressive Behavior1 more

Soldiers deployed in peace-keeping missions as well as ex-combatants in conflict or former conflict regions were and are often exposed to multiple traumatic events and situations in which they are forced to engage in violent behavior. The treatment program Formation, Orientation and Rehabilitation by means of Narrative Exposure Therapy (FORNET) is a short-term, culturally sensitive treatment approach that aims to reduce Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) symptoms as well as the risk to engage in uncontrolled violent behavior. Addressing trauma-related mental disorders as well as emotions related to aggression by means of FORNET is expected to facilitate reintegration in civil life and reduce uncontrolled violence. The investigators want to provide evidence, that FORNET is an effective and efficient module to assist soldiers after deployment in Somalia and/or male and female ex-combatants who fought in the civil war in Burundi. In addition the investigators aim to explore how traumatic incidences and maltreatment during childhood may influence treatment outcomes.

The Family VOICE Study

AutismAggression2 more

Family centered mental health treatment with children values and supports the role of parents in their child's recovery. However, medications are often the primary focus in community treatment, even in preschool age youth, with increasing use of antipsychotic medication for serious mood and behavior problems. Although medication may be necessary to address safety issues (such as severe aggression) it can cause serious side effects, such as obesity, and medication only does not follow recommended care for these types of problems. Psychosocial treatments are highly recommended (e.g. Programs that coach empower parents to manage their child's difficult behaviors) as part of comprehensive child treatment. Parent involvement in psychosocial treatment has clear benefits for their child's mental health, and unlike medication, the effects can last long after treatment is completed. However, problems related to access (e.g. long waiting lists) and use (e.g. parent mistrust mental health services) of services are common. Maryland, like other states, has developed a system to improve medication safety by reviewing health information about the child to determine if the treatment is appropriate. This reduces unnecessary medication treatment and ensures children have adequate health screening before starting any treatment. Those approved for medication have moderate-severe mental health problems, which supports their need for comprehensive (medication and psychosocial) treatment, instead of medication only. In this study, investigators partner with parents/family advocates, child-serving agencies, and health providers to develop a Family Navigator (FN) Service to link with this medication program. A FN is an individual who has cared for their own child with mental illness. The FN supports parents, provide information on psychosocial treatment options, and address barriers to using services. The goals of this program are to improve use of psychosocial services, and to improve parent empowerment, support, and satisfaction with their child's mental health treatment. The investigators also expect that the FN Service will improve the child's overall mental health and reduce the likelihood of a medication dose increase or another medication added during the initial treatment period. The FN Service is provided for parents of public insured children ages 3-15 years newly approved for antipsychotic medication treatment. The FN Services will be provided by phone, which supports families in both rural and urban settings. The investigators' long term goal is to develop a FN program that strongly supports Family-centered treatment of children and can be used to help families in other underserved areas beyond Maryland.
