Alopecia areata is a medical condition, in which the hair falls out in patches. The hair can fall out on the scalp or elsewhere on the face and body. Alopecia areata is an autoimmune skin disease, which means that the immune system is recognizing the hair follicles as foreign and attacking them, causing round patches of hair loss. It can progress to total scalp hair loss (alopecia totalis) or complete body hair loss (alopecia universalis). The scalp is the most commonly affected area, but the beard or any hair-bearing site can be affected alone or together with the scalp. Alopecia areata occurs in males and females of all ages, and is a highly unpredictable condition that tends to recur. Alopecia areata can cause significant distress to both patients and their families. In this study, the aim to assess the effects of a new treatment called apremilast in patients with alopecia areata. A total of 30 patients will be included in the study, which will run for a total of 52 weeks.

The purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy of treatment with intralesional injection of corticosteroids on the treatment of Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia (compared with placebo), between three months, six months and baseline.

Alopecia Areata (AA) is one of the most common T cell-mediated autoimmune diseases, leading to the chronic and relapsing hair loss. The prevalence of AA worldwide is 0.1 to 0.2%, affecting an estimated 5.3 million people in the United States. To date, the clinical therapies are limited and disappointed for the treatment of AA. Alternative approaches are needed. Increasing evidence demonstrates that stem cells possess the function of immune modulation. We established the Stem Cell Educator therapy by using cord blood-derived multipotent stem cells (CB-SCs)(Zhao Y, et al. BMC Medicine 2012). A closed-loop system that circulates a patient's blood through a blood cell separator, briefly co-cultures the patient's lymphocytes with adherent CB-SCs in vitro, and returns the educated lymphocytes (but not the CB-SCs) to the patient's circulation. Our clinical trial reveals that a single treatment with the Stem Cell Educator provides lasting reversal of autoimmunity that allows regeneration of islet beta cells and improvement of metabolic control in subjects with long-standing type 1 diabetes (T1D), which is another most common T cell-mediated autoimmune disorder in the United States. Here, we develop and explore the therapeutic effectiveness of Stem Cell Educator therapy in AA patients.

It has been postulated that Alopecia Areata (AA) is, at least in part, a neurologically mediated disease. Research supporting this theory includes the finding that nerves surrounding the hair follicles are collapsed. We want to take this research a step further and show that not only are these perifollicular nerves collapsed, but that their function is also impaired.

A total of 62 participants will receive red light (660 nm) to the scalp through a specially designed light therapy device integrated into a conventional hat. Each treatment will be 30 min per session applied on every other day for 14 weeks.

Patients with three lesions of alopecia areata are randomly recruited in this study. Each lesion is randomized in to receiving either carboxytherapy in one lesion, intralesional steroids in another lesion and combination of both in the third lesion. Treatment period is 3 months followed by a follow-up period of 2 months.

This is a case series of adult, male and female subjects with androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness). A topical hemp oil that is rich in varins (THCV and CBDV) and cannabidiol (CBD) is being used daily for six months to stimulate hair regrowth using Endocannabinoid System (ECS) receptors that are found on hair follicles.

The purpose of this research is to test the effects of an herbal combination formulation on hair growth in women with self-perceived hair loss.The information from this study may help to better understand how certain herbal supplements can affect hair growth. This may lead to better understanding of the hair, hair loss and help develop naturally-based treatment regimens in the future.

Paclitaxel is a chemotherapy drug that is used to treat breast cancer, one of the most common cancers. It causes two side effects very often - hair-loss and numbness. Until recently, there have been no known ways to prevent or treat either side effect. Recently, cooling of the scalp to prevent hair loss caused by paclitaxel was approved. Our team is developing a method to prevent numbness caused by paclitaxel by using a device that cools the arms and the legs, while applying mild pressure, and this technique is called cryocompression. As scalp cooling use in day-to-day cancer care increases, future studies involving cryocompression to treat neuropathy must take this into account, lest patients be denied or are required to trade-off one treatment for the other. However, there is concern of causing a reduction in core body temperature, which would not be safe or a general intolerance to this treatment. Both scalp cooling and limb cryocompression individually have not shown to cause this, but simultaneous use has not been studied previously. Clinical safety studies, in healthy subjects and cancer patients would need to be conducted to prove this theory, which is being proposed by currently.
