BeatPark: Self-rehabilitation in Walking With Parkinson's Disease
Parkinson DiseaseWalking1 morePhysical activity has beneficial effects on the quality of walking for persons with Parkinson's disease (PD). However, regular physical activity is still limited in most patients' daily lives. The rhythm of music makes you want to move whether you are sick or not. In addition, it has been found that in people with PD, it can also improve walking by helping the participant to regain the regularity of alternating steps and a better walking dynamic (i.e. better position, better arm swinging, etc.). Studies have shown that music allows persons with PD to walk faster, with bigger steps. However, if the tempo of the music does not correspond to the participant's walking pace, instead of helping him, it can disturb him. So it seems necessary for music to help people with PD to walk better if the tempo of the music is set to match their steps. BeatPark is a smartphone application which makes it possible to synchronize the tempo of the music with the participant's walking rhythm detected thanks to feet insoles. Once synchronized to the participant's walking pace, BeatPark imperceptibly accelerates the tempo of the music to help the participant's acceleration. This clinical trial proposes to study the effects of walking rehabilitation depending on the use of music synchronized to the participant's step with BeatPark, music with random tempo or without music.
Postural and Anthropometric Properties of Foot and Ankle of Patients With DMD
Duchenne Muscular DystrophyAmbulation Difficulty3 moreIntroduction: Progressive muscle weakness, joint contractures and body alignment disorders seen in patients with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) adversely affect the foot structure of the patients. Objective: The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between foot posture, performance and ambulation in patients with DMD. Method: The patient with ambulatory DMD will be included in the study. The foot postures of the patients will be evaluated with the Foot Posture Index. Relationships between the Foot Posture Index and performance tests (6 minute walk test, timed performance tests (10m walking, Gower's, climb/descend 4 stair)) and the North Star Ambulation Evaluation, an ambulation evaluation, will be examined.
Mobility Assessment Using Surrogates in Elderly Participants
Mobility LimitationThe purpose of this research study is to find out if mobility (the ability to move around) can be reliably assessed by having the family or care giver caregiver take a video based test for the patient. If this study shows that mobility can be assessed by family or caregiver, this information can be used in situations where mobility cannot be measured directly in patients. A total of 60 patients and 60 family/caregivers at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center will take part in this study. Patients physical function will be assessed using a test that uses short movie clips to assess mobility. Patients will be asked to watch ten short (~10 seconds each) movie clips that describe various tasks such as climbing up hills or walking and estimate if they can perform the tasks. The familymember/caregiver will be also asked to answer the questions on behalf of the patient. The family member/caregiver will be asked to return to take the same test in the next 1-14 days. The patient will be in the study for one day. There is no intervention, this is observational.

Tolerance of Early Postoperative Mobilization and Ambulation
Ambulation DifficultyColorectal Surgery1 moreEnhanced recovery programme (ERP) includes early postoperative mobilization and ambulation the day of surgery. Data suggest that orthostatic symptoms prevent a large number of patients from ambulating the day of surgery. The investigators plan to include 50 patients scheduled for colorectal surgery and bariatric surgery in an ERP. A 6-min walk test (6MWT) will be performed before surgery, 3 hour after the end of surgery, and 24 hour after surgery. The day of surgery a 2-min walk test will be realized.
