HealthSubjective12 moreRelative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S) characterizes a range of negative health and performance outcomes that result from chronically low energy availability. RED-S concerns high performance junior and senior athletes across Canada and has a prevalence rate of 3-60%. Our ability to assess and diagnose RED-S remains poor. Accordingly, we aim to create the best parameters to diagnose and manage RED-S; along with information of the prevalence and severity across Canada and globally. These outcomes are expected to have a significant positive impact on the health and performance of Canadian athletes in preparation for the Olympic Games in 2022 and beyond.

The knowledge acquired in this study will be used for the diagnosis and treatment of reproductive endocrine disorders. We seek to investigate the baseline characteristics of the GnRH-induced gonadotropin pulsations of patients with the following diagnoses: Hypothalamic Amenorrhea (HA) Idiopathic hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (IHH) Polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD) Acquired hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (AHH) Premature Ovarian Failure (POF) **WE ARE CURRENTLY RECRUITING ONLY SUBJECTS WITH A DIAGNOSIS OF IHH.** This has been an extremely productive and pivotal protocol in the studies of female reproductive physiology and pathophysiology and continues to be critical for defining the neuroendocrine abnormalities in patients with reproductive disorders. In some cases, it is also helpful in the planning of subsequent therapy if so desired. It is important to note that minors have been included in this protocol, as many patients are extremely anxious to know more about their neuroendocrine disorder. With minors who would like to know if their disorder is correctable, this protocol may be followed up with administration of pulsatile gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH).

Breast FeedingMilk Expression3 moreThe purpose of this research is to determine whether there are differences in ovarian suppression between women who are feeding at the breast compared with women who are pumping. In the main study, the aim is to compare reproductive health outcomes, including amenorrhea rates, duration of lactation, and resumption of sexual activity, between mothers who are exclusively breastfeeding (i.e. feeding at the breast) and those who are pumping after a term or preterm delivery. In the sub-study, the aim is to determine the feasibility and acceptability of using urinary luteinizing hormone (LH) detection kits at home to detect ovulation in exclusively breastmilk feeding women.

Reproductive Effects of Pesticide, PCB and Mercury Exposure in Laotian Immigrants
AmenorrheaDysmenorrhea3 moreThis project is examining the reproductive effects of exposure to certain compounds that are suspected to act on the endocrine system, e.g. they may act like or interfere with hormones such as estrogen. The study is being conducted among Laotian women, as it is suspected that they may have higher exposures to the compounds of interest (pesticides and PCBs) from their homeland and from consumption of fish caught in the San Francisco Bay. Fifty Laotian immigrants were recruited by community workers to collect urine daily during 3 menstrual cycles for measurement of steroid hormones (estrogen and progesterone). Additionally, they provided a blood sample to measure exposure levels, and completed 2 interviews in their native language. These measured levels, as well as the self-reported data on a number of factors including fish consumption, will be examined for possible effects on hormone levels and menstrual function.

The purpose of this study is to describe the acceptability of Amenorrhea in contraception indication of Mirena users during one year follow up in medical practice. 500 patients in 20 centers will be enrolled in the study. Bleeding profile, removal or non-removal of the IUS (IntraUterine System) will be evaluated.
