Gut Microbiota, Anastomotic Leak and Colorectal Cancer
Colorectal CancerThis is a prospective study evaluating the relation between the gut microbiota composition, intestinal healing after colorectal surgery and colorectal cancer behavior. Our hypothesis is that the gut microbiota composition could predict poor intestinal healing in colorectal surgery, and that the gut microbiota might have an impact on colorectal cancer clinical behavior and may predict disease outcomes.
Endosponge Vacuum Therapy (E-VAC) Registry of Intestinal Anastomotic Leaks and Perforations
Intestinal Anastomotic LeakIntestinal PerforationsThe purpose of this registry is to collect data on the clinical use of endoluminal vacuum (E-Vac) therapy to treat both upper and lower intestinal leaks and perforations.
The Prediction of Anastomotic Insufficiency Risk After Colorectal Surgery (PANIC) Study
Anastomotic LeakColorectal Cancer4 moreThe Prediction of Anastomotic Insufficiency risk after Colorectal surgery (PANIC) study aims to establish a machine-learning-based application that allows for accurate preoperative prediction of patients at risk for anastomotic insufficiency after colon and colorectal surgery.
Transanal Inspection and Management of Low ColoRectal Anastomosis Performed With a New Technique...
Anastomotic LeakThe technique the investigators propose to perform colorectal and colo-anal anastomosis in patients underwent low and ultra-low anterior resection for rectal cancer could potentially reduce the anastomotic leakage rate by better trans-anal introduction of the circular stapler, elimination of the previous suture lines and dog ears, combined with direct inspection of the anastomosis, easy performance of trans-anal air leak tests and eventually direct repair of any small anastomotic defects. Another important point in cancer surgery is the easily identification of the distal margin. In fact, this technique is simple to perform, reproducible and safe in terms of complications.
Endoscopic Visualisation of Anastomosis in Colorectal Cancer Surgery
Rectal CancerColorectal Cancer2 moreA randomised feasibility study into the use of endoscopic visualisation of rectal anastomosis vs. current practice and the effect on anastomotic leak rates in patients undergoing rectal surgery for bowel cancer in a tertiary referral centre
Ischemic Conditioning of the Gastric Conduit in Esophageal Cancer.
Esophageal Anastomotic LeakTissue Pressure of OxygenThis study is a randomized clinical trial to clarify if preoperative embolization of gastric arteries can reduce the incidence of oesophagogastric leakage after an esophagectomy for esophageal cancer comparing an experimental group vs control group.
Anastomotic Leak Testing in Gastrectomy
Anastomotic LeakGastric Cancer4 moreAnastomotic leak after radical gastrectomy is a serious complication. Intraoperative leak testing was often used to assess the integrity of the anastomosis. However, the reliability, clinical benefits and safety of intraoperative leak testing are controversial. Our aim is to evaluate the effect and safety of intraoperative leak testing, and to compare the surgical complications of patients in intraoperative leak testing group with patients in non-intraoperative leak testing group.
Leukocyte and and Platelet-rich Fibrin Plasma for the Prevention of Anastomotic Leakage in Colorectal...
Anastomotic LeakPlatelet-Rich Fibrin1 moreAnastomotic leak rate in colorectal surgery is estimated between 4 and 20 percent. Leukocyte and and platelet-rich fibrin plasma (L-PRF) is second generation platelet concentrate whose application in colorectal anastomosis in animals has shown promising results that suppose a lower leakage rate. The objective of this study was to assess the feasibility of using L-PRF in colorectal surgery and to determine the incidence of anastomotic leakage after colorectal anastomosis.
Functional Outcome After Anastomotic Leak After Oesophagectomies
Anastomotic Leak EsophagusSwallowing DisorderThe main surgical treatment for oesophageal cancer is a curative resection, mostly performed according to Ivor Lewis. However, despite careful work and refined surgical techniques, anastomotic leakage (AL) occurs in more than 1/10 of the patients. This severe complication normally requires immediate intervention, while over the last 10 years, endoscopic vacuum therapy (EVT) has become the crucial therapy for broken-down anastomosis. The hypothesis is that despite suffering a severe complication, the subjective swallow function is not impaired in patients treated by EVT after an anastomotic leak, compared to patients without AL.
Stent Therapy Versus Endoscopic Vacuum Therapy for Anastomotic Leaks After Esophagectomy
LeaksAnastomoticExploratory study of the efficiency of endoscopic stenting versus endoscopic vacuum therapy in patients with intrathoracic esophago-gastric anastomotic leakage after oncological resection of the esophagus.
