Vitamin B6 on Relieving Linezolid-associated Cytopenias

CytopeniasErythropenia (Diagnosis)

Linezolid is the first approved synthetic oxazolidinone that is active against multidrug-resistant Gram-positive pathogens. Because of its significant efficacy, linezolid is widely used in clinical treatment. However, the side effects of linezolid commonly lead to anemia and thrombocytopenia. This hematological toxic effects limit its prolonged used. The investigators have found that Vitamin B6 application, as a preventive, auxiliary therapy, can relieve anemia and thrombocytopenia. The present study was designed to verify the effects of Vitamin B6 in the prevention of linezolid-associated cytopenias and investigate its mechanism.

Anemia of Inflammation: Investigation on Impaired Iron Regulation in Acutely Ill Patients and Their...

Anemia of Acute Inflammation

Anemia of inflammation (AI), a normochromic, normocytic anemia, associated with abnormal iron utilization, erythropoietin hyporesponsiveness, and decreased red blood cells (RBC) survival is a very common problem in hospitalized patients for acute inflammatory diseases and develops within few days from the onset of illness. Deleterious effects of anemia include increased risk of cardiac related morbidity and mortality in critically ill and older patients. Anemia is mediated by hepcidin, the 25-amino acid polypeptide hormone that is central to iron trafficking. Several studies have been performed on pathophysiology of AI in patients affected by chronic diseases but few explore iron metabolism in humans with acute inflammation. The aim is to develop effective new strategies to detect and manage AI in the setting of acutely ill patients, based on the understanding of iron balance underlying this disorder.

Adherence of Iron Succinylate Therapy in Pregnancy

Pregnancy RelatedPregnancy Anemia1 more

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), anemia is the most common disease, affecting >1.5 billion people worldwide. Furthermore, iron deficiency anemia (IDA) accounts for 50% of cases of anemia. IDA is common during pregnancy and the postpartum period, and can lead to serious maternal and fetal complications. Measurement of serum ferritin has the highest sensitivity and specificity for diagnosis of IDA unless there is a concurrent inflammatory condition. The lower threshold value for hemoglobin (Hb) in pregnant women is <11 g/dL during the 1st and 3rd trimesters, and <10.5 g/dL during the 2nd trimester. In postpartum period a Hb concentration <10 g/dL indicates clinically significant anemia. Oral iron therapy is given as the first-line treatment for IDA.

Association of Red Blood Cell Transfusion, Anemia, and Necrotizing Enterocolitis

Necrotizing EnterocolitisAnemia1 more

Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a leading cause of mortality among preterm infants. The pathogenesis of NEC remains unclear with conflicting data regarding the role of red blood cell (RBC) transfusion and anemia. A meta-analysis of retrospective studies demonstrated an association between exposure to RBC transfusion and NEC(adjusted odds ratio, 2.0 [95% confidence interval, 1.6-2.5]). However, recent observational studies have found no association between RBC transfusion and NEC or have found RBC transfusion to be protective.

HBOC-201 Expanded Access Protocol for Life-threatening Anemia for Whom Allogeneic Blood Transfusion...

Anemia

The purpose of this protocol is to provide treatment with HBOC-201 to patients with life-threatening anemia for whom blood is not an option. Such patients may also be referred to in this document as patients who refuse blood transfusion (PWRBT). Other patients who potentially may require HBOC-201 treatment include those with red blood cell alloantibodies for whom immunologically compatible red blood cell units cannot be found, although these patients are less common than PWRBT.

Warm Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia

The purpose of this post-trial access (PTA) program is to provide nipocalimab for the treatment of participants with Warm Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (wAIHA) who are experiencing clinical benefit after completing 28-weeks open-label extension in MOM-M281-006 (NCT04119050) study.

Expanded Access Protocol Using HBOC-201

Anemia

The purpose of this protocol is to provide treatment with HBOC-201 to patients with life-threatening anemia for whom allogeneic blood transfusion is not an option. HBOC 201 [hemoglobin glutamer - 250 (bovine)] has been previously studied as an alternative to blood transfusions in severely anemic patients needing a way to enhance tissue oxygenation. HBOC-201 is purified, cross-linked and polymerized acellular bovine hemoglobin in a modified lactated Ringer's solution, and does not require blood compatibility.
