BASIC VALIDATE Coronary Stent Registry

Myocardial InfacrtionUnstable Angina Pectoris1 more

BASIC VALIDATE is a coronary stent registry to obtain clinical follow-up information from 2000 patients treated with CE-marked stent (BioMatrix Flex™, Biosensors International) with follow-up of endpoints via the Swedish angiography and angioplasty registry (SCAAR - part of the national SWEDEHEART registry).

Clinical Utility of an Age, Sex, and Gene Expression Score (ASGES or Corus CAD) in African American...

Coronary Artery DiseaseAngina Pectoris6 more

This is a retrospective study, designed to be conducted at a single-center in the US. The study will conduct a one-time data abstraction from approximately 500 patient medical charts who received Age/Sex/Gene Expression score (ASGES) also knows as Corus CAD testing, by order of the Principal Investigator. Limited demographic data and patient data pertaining to cardiology referral or advanced diagnostic testing will be collected. All data will be collected anonymously.

Physiologic Assessment of Coronary Stenosis Following PCI

Coronary Artery DiseaseCoronary Stenosis4 more

This is a pilot study designed to assess the relationship between iFR (instantaneous wave-free ratio) pullback and the distribution of coronary atheroma/stenoses as assessed by Quantitative Coronary Angiography (QCA) post angiographically successful PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention).

Investigation of the Role of Hemodynamics in Re-stenosis of CABG Patients

Coronary Artery DiseaseStable Angina1 more

CFD simulations in this study provide detailed hemodynamics information, which cannot be obtained from cardiac images alone. The investigators hypothesize that our proposed simulations will provide strong correlation between hemodynamic parameters, such as WSSG and SPA, and clinically identified graft stenosis. These correlations will allow the investigators to identify the future patients at high risk of graft stenosis and lead to future researches on optimizing and refining surgical plans, such as finding optimal proximal and distal anastomoses locations, optimal graft length and diameter, which could lead to improved longevity of the graft. Once CFD coupled shape optimizer is validated, it could be part of the surgical simulator to help in training the next generation physicians. It could provide new viewpoints for assessing whether some modified surgical techniques are better or not. It could also aid in designing and evaluating the vascular medical devices, including stent, artificial graft, and etc., which would lead to better surgical outcome.

Risk Factors in the Initial Presentation of Specific Cardiovascular Disease Syndromes

Heart DiseasesCardiovascular Diseases14 more

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is an important public health problem that affects millions of people worldwide. Associations between risk factors, such as smoking, dyslipidaemia or hypertension, and prevalent CVD are well documented. However, few studies have investigated associations with onset of disease. The initial manifestation of CVD, for example an episode of unstable angina, is important because it influences the prognosis, the quality of life and the management of disease. Furthermore, the extent to which social deprivation, alcohol consumption or atrial fibrillation affects presentation of CVD is poorly understood and deserves further consideration. Most previous studies have considered CVD as a single entity. However, differences in aetiology between coronary phenotypes suggest that risk factors may not be shared across specific coronary phenotypes and their relative importance is likely to differ for each phenotype. Gaining knowledge of these differences could provide insights into the pathophysiology of specific forms of CVD and could eventually lead to modification of recommendations for patient management and disease prevention. We propose to use the linkage of the national registry of coronary events to general practice records in the Clinical Practice Research Database (CPRD), to investigate whether demographic, behavioral, and clinico-metabolic risk factors differentially influence the onset of specific types of CVD.

HDL-C in Cardiac Syndrome X

Cardiovascular DiseasesHeart Diseases3 more

High density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) is in the centrum of the process of reverse cholesterol transport from peripheral cells to the liver[10]. HDL-C promotes endothelial generation of nitric oxide (NO) and improves endothelial function and arterial vasoreactivity[11]. In several studies, lower HDL-C level was reported to be associated with increased coronary artery disease (CAD) risk[12-14]. HDL-C also has anti- inflammatory and anti-oxidant activities[15,16]. Concerning anti-inflammatory activity, HDL-C inhibits the activation of monocytes/macrophages and neutrophils[17,18] and inhibits the expression of endothelial adhesion molecules, such as vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) and E-selectin[15]. In this study we aimed to investigate the relation of HDL-C level with systemic inflammatory markers in patients with cardiac syndrome X (CSX).

Impact of Coronary Anatomy on Angina Relief in Patients Undergoing Coronary Revascularization

AnginaStatus Post PCI1 more

We hypothesize that Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) severity assessed by SYNTAX score is an independent predictor of recurrent or persistent angina following coronary revascularization. The SYNTAX score is a score that suggests the severity of coronary artery disease detected by coronary angiography. Coronary revascularization is a procedure that occurs in two ways, a percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and a coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) and is done when there is narrowing and blockage or hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis) surrounding the heart. Narrowing and blockages reduce blood flow to parts of the heart causing chest pain (known as angina) and sometimes myocardial infarction.
