Virtual Reality and Acupressure Applications; Effect on Pain, Anxiety, Vital Signs and Comfort

PainAnxiety2 more

Coronary angiography (CAG) is an invasive method for imaging the coronary arteries. The femoral artery is frequently used during CAG and patients feel pain and anxiety during removal of the catheters placed in the femoral region. These disorders also negatively affect the vital signs and comfort levels of patients. Different methods are used in direct proportion to the development of technology for relieving anxiety and pain caused by invasive surgical procedures in patients. These methods include virtual reality (VR) applications. Innovative, up-to-date and original, virtual reality is the fusion of fiction and technology with reality and imagination. These programs; It is stated that in addition to reducing the patient's anxiety and pain, it makes them feel safe, increases their comfort, care satisfaction and positively affects their participation in care. Acupressure is one of the most widely used non-pharmacological methods to reduce pain and anxiety, and one of the applications included in the Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC). Applications made with manipulations such as pressure and rubbing on certain points on the meridians where energy flow takes place in the body are called acupressure. It has been determined that acupressure applications in different areas reduce pain and anxiety and positively affect vital signs and patient comfort. Although there are studies in the literature in which different non-pharmacological methods are applied to reduce pain and anxiety caused by catheter extraction after CAG, positively affect vital signs, and increase the level of comfort, no research has been found in which acupressure method and virtual reality methods developed with today's technology are applied together. In this study, it was planned to reduce the pain and anxiety of the patients, to observe the effects on vital signs, and to increase their comfort levels, with acupressure application and virtual reality methods, which have not been applied non-pharmacologically until now, in patients who underwent CAG.

Effectiveness of Art Therapy on Reducing Pain and Anxiety in Children Receiving Venipuncture

VenipuncturePain2 more

Venipuncture is one of the most common stressful procedures in children. Managing pain and fear of venipuncture procedure recommended strongly because it may change children's memory for procedural pain and the subsequent acceptance of later health care painful interventions. Prior painful experiences can reduce the acceptance of later health care, hence making it more difficult for both patients and nurses. There was clear evidence that the distraction method is the most performed as a psychological technique performed to decrease venipuncture-related pain and distress and supporting its efficacy in children. The aim of this study to investigate the effectiveness of TICK-B on children's pain and anxiety during venipuncture procedure.

Mindful Meditation for Epidural Catheter Placement

AnxietyPain

Given the high prevalence of neuraxial analgesia use during labor and the anxiety associated with these procedures, a method to decrease this anxiety could benefit millions of laboring women each year. Mindfulness practice has been used by many groups to decrease anxiety during pregnancy with optimistic results. However, there has been no major study evaluating the role of mindfulness interventions on anxiety associated with neuraxial placement. The purpose of our study is to address this gap in knowledge.

The Effect of Exercise on Anxiety and Cognition in Students at University

ExerciseAnxiety2 more

RATIONALE: Exercise may improve the mood and cognition in young people. PURPOSE: It has been well-known that physical exercise can generally benefit the mental health. However, most evidences that physical exercise improves psychiatric symptoms come from retrospective or cross-sectional studies. Moreover, the studies on the effect of physical exercise in the young adults' mental health were limited. This randomized-controlled trial aims to determinate the effects of a chronic and aerobic exercise on the mood and cognition of young people.

Virtual Reality (VR) Tour to Reduce Preoperative Anxiety Before Anaesthesia

AnaesthesiaAnxiety1 more

Anxiety and apprehension are common among patients prior to surgery. This anxiety can lead to additional discomfort, increased pain sensation and increased stress symptoms. Virtual exposure has proven to be successful in exposure therapy for the treatment of the narrowest patients. Patients are not confronted with the real stimuli or situations that trigger the branches, but with virtual representations of them. Virtual reality (VR) makes it possible to create scenarios that would not be possible in reality because of the organisational, time or financial expenditure involved. The effectiveness of virtual stimulus exposure is well documented, especially in the case of object or situation-related fears in the context of specific phobias. It is therefore obvious that virtual stimulus exposure could also be suitable for minimising operation-associated fears. The research project described is designed to investigate the effect of virtual stimulus exposure on perioperative anxiety. For this purpose, a virtual tour of the operating setting has been created, which enables patients to explore the surroundings in detail by means of VR glasses.

Multimodal Assessment of Neurobiological Markers for Psychiatric Disorders

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)Anxiety Disorder

MAN-BIOPSY pursues the concrete research question whether novel biological and psycho-physiological clusters or categories can be defined to improve treatment and minimize side effects in psychiatry, based on a synopsis of physiological, behavioural, genetic and endocrinological parameters. One major aspect of our research approach is its focuses on the identification of dysfunctions in fundamental information processing mechanisms and neurocomputational mechanisms, and is not restricted to symptom-oriented tasks. The main objectives of MAN-BIOPSY are therefore to identify biological and psycho-physiological parameters for major depressive disorders and anxiety disorders, and to identify predictive markers for treatment response and type/severity of side effects for these disorders.

Rumination-focused CBT Training for the Prevention of Depression and Anxiety

DepressionAnxiety Disorders

Depression and anxiety disorders are highly prevalent and associated with reduced quality of life for patients and enormous economic costs for society. Although effective treatments are available, a substantial number of patients fail to respond, and the time between disorder onset and treatment is typically long. The development of prevention programs therefore appears promising. The current project aims to prevent depression and anxiety by targeting excessive levels of worry and rumination, two important risk factors for emotional disorders. Participants will be selected on the basis of a high score on two validated questionnaires on worry and rumination. They will be randomly assigned to a rumination-focused cognitive-behavioral training delivered in a group format, a rumination-focused cognitive-behavioral training delivered via internet, or a no-training control condition. It is expected that both versions of the rumination-focused training will reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, will reduce the incidence of major depressive episodes and generalized anxiety disorder, and will reduce symptom levels of other emotional disorders.
