Mindfulness-Based Exercise Video in Educating Hispanic/Latino Patients With Colorectal Cancer and...
Anxiety DisorderColon Cancer3 moreThis randomized pilot trial studies mindfulness-based program in educating patients with colorectal cancer and their caregivers. A mindfulness-based exercise video may help reduce stress and fatigue in patients with colorectal cancer and their caregivers.
Acceptance and Mindfulness for Exercise in Anxiety
AnxietyAnxiety is a common experience, with the U.S. lifetime prevalence of any anxiety disorder at 28.8%. Exercise has shown large effect sizes relative to controls in reducing mood and anxiety symptoms. An anxious population generally has more difficulty when beginning or increasing an exercise regimen, due to a higher level of sensitivity to discomfort. Mindfulness practices may be helpful in improving adherence to an exercise program. A similar study has shown that mindfulness may reduce perceived effort and make exercise more enjoyable. Furthermore, mindfulness has been shown to be an effective intervention in reducing anxiety and physical discomfort. The investigators intend to use a brief intervention incorporating strategies of mindfulness and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in conjunction with exercise to ease the transition into regular/increased physical exercise. Measures of anxiety sensitivity and perceived stress will be included to measure whether they change, and their possible effect as moderating variables on exercise adherence.
Evaluating The Effects Of Cimetidine On The Elimination Of PD 0332334 From The Body
Generalized Anxiety DisorderThe purpose of this study is to estimate the effects of multiple doses of cimetidine on the pharmacokinetics of a single dose of PD 0332334 and to evaluate the safety and tolerability of PD 0332334 when co-administered with cimetidine.
Virtual Reality Education Program to Reduce Anxiety During Radiation Therapy
AnxietyStress4 moreThe purpose of this study is to compare the efficacy of an immersive virtual reality (VR)-based education program with a form of patient education commonly provided by clinics (e.g., an educational video) at delivering education to breast cancer patients as they prepare for radiation therapy treatment. Self-evaluation questionnaires completed by participants will be used to measure changes in information needs and anxiety, stress, preparedness and satisfaction levels pre/post education between the VR-based education and video education groups in this study. Expanded access to the current VR-based education program will depend on licensing status for associated assets by interested parties.
Oral Ketamine in the Treatment of Depression and Anxiety in Patients With Cancer
CancerDepression1 moreDepression is common in patients with cancer. Current medications for depression, while effective, take several weeks to take effect. Ketamine has emerged as a drug with promise for cancer patients. In two reported cases, a single dose of ketamine induced rapid and moderately sustained symptom reduction in depression and anxiety with no adverse side effects. Benefit was seen in as little as 1 hour and sustained up to 30 days. This study is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled investigation testing whether a single dose of ketamine improves depression and anxiety relative to placebo in patients with cancer.
Brief Intervention to Reduce Fear of Public Speaking
Social Anxiety DisorderThe study will test the efficacy of propranolol or placebo, administered after retrieval of a previously acquired public speaking fear, in reducing fear and avoidance of public speaking.
Pediatric Preoperative Virtual Reality Program
SurgeryAnxietyDoes the introduction of a preparatory virtual reality (VR) program that is used in the home environment, have an effect on the anxiety level of children immediately before surgery, prior to administration of preoperative sedatives?
CHI-907 CBD Extract and Experiences of Test Anxiety
AnxietyThis is a randomized, placebo-controlled study examining the effects of CHI-907 on test anxiety specifically, and state anxiety more broadly.
Investigation Of How PD 0332334 And Metformin Are Eliminated From The Body When They Are Administered...
Generalized Anxiety DisorderTo estimate the effects of multiple doses of PD 0332334 on the elimination of a single dose of metformin from the body To estimate the effects of multiple doses of metformin on the elimination of a single dose of PD 0332334 from the body To evaluate the safety and tolerability when PD 0332334 and metformin are administered at the same time.
Anti-anxiety Biotics for Breast Cancer Survivors
Anxiety GeneralizedBreast Cancer FemaleCancer survivors experience more rapid declines in health-related quality of life which include physical and psychological comorbidities, the latter of which may be subclinical and often overlooked by primary care providers. Recently, the gut-brain axis (GBA) has been identified as a therapeutic target to improve host health. The GBA is greatly influenced by the composition of the gut microbiome, as microbial metabolites directly influence the central nervous system. Thus, prebiotics, probiotics, and synbiotics (a combination of pre- and probiotics) have emerged as a possible approach to treating anxiety symptoms. Preclinical studies suggest efficacy of synbiotics, while pre- and probiotics have only been studied in isolation in humans. This is a double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial in which female breast cancer survivors and/or their female relatives experiencing moderate to severe anxiety symptoms will be randomized to daily consumption of the synbiotic supplement or placebo. The previously validated Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) will be used to assess anxiety symptom severity at study screening and at each time point. The primary outcome of this study is feasibility, measured by accrual, adherence, retention, and adverse effects. Secondary outcomes relate to reduction of anxiety symptoms and other physiological changes. No study has investigated the mediating effects of gut microbiota and inflammatory markers on the ability of synbiotics to reduce anxiety symptoms. Thus, at each timepoint, phlebotomy will be conducted to determine serum levels of inflammatory cytokines and stool samples will be collected to determine alpha- and beta-diversity of the fecal microbiome as well as relative abundance of target genera. Hypothesis: this placebo-controlled study will be feasible and synbiotic treatment will result in a significant reduction in anxiety symptoms and inflammatory markers, which may be moderated by changes in the microbiome.
