This study investigates whether the anxiolytic effects and anti-inflammatory properties of cannabis vary as a function of the ratio of CBD to THC, with the goal that these effects may shed light on the mixed data linking cannabis use and anxiety. Individuals with mild to moderate anxiety who elect to use cannabis (smoked flower or edible) will complete four weeks of observation. Participants complete cognitive tasks, a substance use history, health questionnaires concerning sleep and physical activity, and a blood draw at four different time points (Baseline, after 2 weeks of cannabis use, and immediately before and after self-administration after 4 weeks of use) with the use of a mobile pharmacology laboratory, which goes to a convenient location for each participant to self-administer their cannabis. Participants are then followed for five months to self-report on cannabis use, anxiety, subjective cognitive functioning, sleep quality, and other mental health symptoms.

Sensitivity of Short and Long Allele Carriers of the 5-HTTLPR to Environmental Threat Post Hydrocortisone...

Major Depressive DisorderAnxiety Disorders

The current study will test the causal relationship between elevated levels of cortisol and the serotonin transporter gene (5-HTTLPR) as these factors influence sensitivity to environmental threat. The investigators predict that carriers of the short allele of the serotonin transporter gene who have elevated cortisol levels will be most sensitive to threatening environments, whereas carriers of the long allele who do not have elevated cortisol (placebo subjects) will be least sensitive.

Promoting Attachment Through Healing

Stress DisordersPost-Traumatic2 more

Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a significant and pervasive public health challenge and is associated with mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Although the perinatal period may be a time of greater risk for experiencing IPV, and greater vulnerability to PTSD symptomatology, a lack of research exists pertaining to the identification/treatment of IPV-related PTSD symptoms during this period. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, and employing a feminist, intersectional framework, the effectiveness of trauma-informed cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) among pregnant survivors of IPV experiencing PTSD symptomatology on depression, anxiety, PTSD and maternal-infant attachment will be explored.

Different Music Types in Reducing Dental Anxiety in Young People

Dental Anxiety

Anxiety is an important issue in dental care for adults, children and adolescents. Dental anxiety affects 10-20% of adults and 43% of children and adolescents. Dental anxiety often leads to avoiding dental treatment; this can cause serious deterioration of oral and dental health. Such deterioration can significantly increase dental care costs. Therefore, reducing anxiety is important both in terms of patient, physician and cost. Music intervention is a psychological therapy that has many advantages when used in outpatient treatment, including cost-effectiveness, lack of negative physical effects, rapid effect, lack of safety in terms of non-use and lack of concern for recovery. Some types of studies suggested but not tested against each other include classical music, soft rock, calming music, pop, easy listening music, and music of choice. With the contradictory results of various studies, the fact that the distraction of music and its distraction on the reduction of tooth anxiety is not common shows that a more structured study is needed. The lack of precise data on the effects of different music types on anxiety has led to this study.
