Screening for Amyloidosis Before Aortic Valve Elective Replacement
AmyloidosisAortic Valve StenosisPrevious studies detected that up to 15% of patients undergoing aortic valve replacement (AVR) for degenerative aortic stenosis have concomitant transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR) cardiomyopathy (Castano, 2017). The aim of this study is to investigate the effectivity and practicability of a systematic ATTR-Screening in patients undergoing planned AVR. Moreover, we plan to develop a screening algorithm to detect ATTR in aortic stenosis (AS).
The CardioPAT Project: A Randomized Trial
Coronary Artery DiseaseAortic Stenosis3 moreThe purpose of this study is to determine whether intra- and postoperative use of the cardioPAT® cell saver decreases the need for allogenic red blood cell transfusion in patients, who undergo open heart surgery (with cardiopulmonary bypass) and preoperatively have an increased risk for bleeding.
First in Man Study of the JenaValve TAVI Plus System Transfemoral
Aortic Valve StenosisHeart Valve Diseases2 moreThe objective of this study is to evaluate feasibility, safety and effectiveness of the first generation transfemoral JenaValve Pericardial TAVR System (formerly named JenaValve TAVI Plus System- Transfemoral) in an elderly patient population with severe aortic stenosis who are at high risk for surgical aortic valve replacement.
Transfemoral Replacement of Aortic Valve With HLT MeriDIAN Valve Early Feasibility Trial
Aortic Valve StenosisThe purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and performance of the HLT System in patients with severe aortic stenosis who present at High Risk for aortic valve replacement surgery.
Adjuvant Radiation in Aortic Valvuloplasty - ARAVA
Aortic Valve StenosisThis study will examine the effect of external beam radiation therapy in the prevention of restenosis following successful balloon aortic valvuloplasty in severe, symptomatic aortic stenosis.
Aortic Stenosis and PhosphodiEsterase iNhibition With Aortic Valve Replacement (ASPEN-AVR): A Pilot...
Aortic StenosisCurrently, aortic stenosis (AS) is considered a "surgical disease" with no medical therapy available to improve any clinical outcomes, including symptoms, time to surgery, or long-term survival. Thus far, randomized studies involving statins have not been promising with respect to slowing progressive valve stenosis. Beyond the valve, two common consequences of aortic stenosis are hypertrophic remodeling of the left ventricle (LV) and pulmonary venous hypertension; each of these has been associated with worse heart failure symptoms, increased operative mortality, and worse long-term outcomes. Whether altering LV structural abnormalities, improving LV function, and/or reducing pulmonary artery pressures with medical therapy would improve clinical outcomes in patients with AS has not been tested. Animal models of pressure overload have demonstrated that PDE5 inhibition influences NO-cGMP signaling in the LV and favorably impacts LV structure and function, but this has not been tested in humans with AS. Studies in humans with left-sided heart failure and pulmonary venous hypertension have shown that PDE5 inhibition improves functional capacity and quality of life, but patients with AS were not included in those studies. The investigators hypothesize that PDE5 inhibition with tadalafil will upregulate NO-cGMP signaling, reduce oxidative stress, and have a favorable impact on LV structure and function as well as pulmonary artery pressures and quality of life. In this pilot study, the investigators anticipate that short-term administration of tadalafil to patients with AS will be safe and well-tolerated.
Impact of Fast-rotation Coronary CT in Patients Undergoing Aortic Stenosis Workup
Coronary StenosisAortic Valve Stenosis1 moreThis study aims to evaluate the clinical value of a novel CT gantry supporting a .23 second rotation time and systematically compare it with 0.23 second rotation time, in patients with clinically indicated aortic CTA in the workup of aortic stenosis. Patients will be randomly assigned .23 or .28 sec rotation time CTA. Coronary artery interpretability rates will be determined in both groups.
Radiation Following Percutaneous Balloon Aortic Valvuloplasty to Prevent Restenosis
Aortic Valve StenosisThe objective of the RADAR trial is to determine the impact of External Beam Radiation Therapy (EBRT) on aortic valve restenosis following successful percutaneous balloon aortic valvuloplasty (BAV) in elderly patients with severe calcific aortic stenosis.

Balloon Aortic Valvuloplasty Performed Without Heparin to Decrease Vascular and Bleeding Complications...
Aortic StenosisNon-rheumaticTo assess if the non use of heparin sodium during balloon aortic valvuloplasty reduces serious complications due to the procedure, by decreasing the rate of vascular and hemorrhagic complications without increasing the rate of ischeamic events.
