A Powered Exoskeleton for Veterans With Knee OA

Knee Osteoarthritis

The purpose of this study is to evaluate in-laboratory mobility outcomes, pain perception, and user satisfaction with the Keeogo , a robotic exoskeleton for providing assistance on knees during stand and swing for a population with impaired mobility, as compare with standard knee braces. The investigators hypothesize that participants could have improved performance outcomes on walk test, timed up and go test, stair test, pick up penny from floor test, and the Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) when using the Keeogo as compared with their prescribed knee braces.

Geniculate Artery Embolization for Knee Osteoarthritis

Knee Osteoarthritis

The purpose of this study is to perform a prospective case series to determine efficacy of transcatheter arterial embolization in treating knee osteoarthritis related pain, improving functionality, and reducing opiate usage in patients with mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis who have failed conservative management. The Gel-Bead embolization particles will be used to perform geniculate artery embolization (GAE) for the purposes of treatment of osteoarthritis-related knee pain.

NitrX Total Knee Arthroplasty RSA

Total Knee ArthroplastyKnee Osteoarthritis1 more

Metal hypersensitivity is a recognized complication in some patients following total joint arthroplasty. This can result in a reaction to metal particles from the implants placed in the joint and cause tissue injury. The Evolution® NitrX™ (MicroPort Orthopaedics, Memphis, TN) knee implant was designed with the addition of a coating meant to create a barrier against the release of metal ions. The primary purpose of this study is to compare the Evolution and Evolution NitrX implant (implants your surgeon uses in total knee arthroplasty surgery). This study will compare the stability of these knee implants (any movement the implant makes after surgery) through the use of specialized xrays, called "radiostereometric analysis" (RSA for short). The investigators will also compare levels of circulating metal particles with blood draws and the effects of any circulating metal with MR imaging. The investigators will also be looking at the participants clinical outcomes using joint function and patient satisfaction questionnaires. A total of 50 patients will be enrolled into the study.

Total Joint Arthroplasty (TJA) Weight Loss Study

OsteoarthritisHip4 more

This is a randomized clinical trial (RCT) to assess the efficacy of bariatric surgery vs medical weight loss vs. the "usual standard of care" to optimize a morbidly obese patient with end-stage osteoarthritis of the hip or knee joint for total joint arthroplasty (TJA). The study population will include patients with hip or knee joint osteoarthritis and BMI (Body Mass Index) > 40 kg/m2 who are evaluated in the joint arthroplasty clinic at Boston Medical Center. The primary objective of the study is to determine if bariatric surgery or medical weight loss is more effective than the usual standard of care in optimizing a morbidly obese patient with osteoarthritis of the hip or knee joint for TJA. This will be determined by comparing the number of patients within each group who are able to lose weight through either bariatric surgery, medical weight loss, or the usual standard of care to achieve a BMI ≤ 40 kg/m2 to eventually undergo TJA. The secondary objectives of this study are to compare total operative time, postoperative complication rates, readmission rates, percentage of total body weight lost, revision rate, and reoperation rate. The ability of patients within each study arm to maintain a BMI ≤ 40 kg/m2 for up to 2 years after undergoing TJA will also be assessed, as well as their level of satisfaction before and after being in the study.

Efficacy of Mesotherapy in Patients With Knee Osteoarthritis

Knee Osteoarthritis

Purpose: The investigators aimed to determine whether this treatment is effective on pain and function by applying mesotherapy treatment to patients followed up with gonarthrosis. Methods: This study is a prospective randomized controlled study. The research will be carried out between November 2021 and April 2022 in Pamukkale University Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) After the approval of the Pamukkale University Faculty of Medicine Ethics Committee, 38 patients diagnosed with gonarthrosis will be divided into 2 groups using a table of random numbers. The first group will be the group that only applied quadriceps strength exercise and Mesotherapy will be applied to the second group along with quadriceps strength exercise. The data will be analyzed with the SPSS package program. Continuous variables will be given as mean ± standard deviation and categorical variables as numbers and percentages. parametric test Test of Significance of Difference Between Two Means in comparison of independent group differences when assumptions are met; When parametric test assumptions are not met, the Mann-Whitney U test will be used to compare independent group differences. In addition, the relationships between continuous variables will be examined with Spearman or Pearson correlation analyzes and the differences between categorical variables will be examined with Chi-square analysis. Since there is no similar study conducted and there is no possibility to conduct a pilot study, assuming that a moderate effect size will be obtained as a result of the power analysis made in the direction of the hypothetical expectations, it was taken to obtain 80% power with 95% confidence, and it was calculated that at least 38 people should be included in the study.
