PBR28 PET and Inflammatory Arthritis

Rheumatoid ArthritisPsoriatic Arthritis

The importance of the detection of early inflammatory arthritis is recognised as being essential to the prevention of permanent joint damage. Furthermore, drug development in inflammatory arthritis is in increasing need of imaging that is able to sensitively and accurately detect and quantify inflammation in a reproducible and objective manner. There is an increasing body of evidence to support the role of PET-CT for these indications. The PET tracer 11CPBR28 is specific to the translocator protein (TSPO) highly expressed on activated macrophages. In this proof of principle study, the investigators aim to ascertain whether or not the PET tracer 11CPBR28 is taken up in inflamed joints. The investigators also aim to explore the significance of TSPO to inflammatory arthritis, through blood and joint lining samples.

Evaluation of Implant Fixation in Reverse Total Shoulder Arthroplasty

Arthritis

Reverse total shoulder replacement surgery (RTSA) is performed for individuals with advanced arthritis of the shoulder who also have tears in their rotator cuff muscles. A metal hemisphere is placed in the shoulder blade, and a plastic cup on a stem is placed in the upper arm. This orientation is opposite to the normal anatomy, giving rise to the term "reverse" shoulder replacement. While RTSA has a good clinical track record, no studies have examined how well fixed the implanted components are within patients.

Evaluation of the Intestinal Microbiota and Bacterial Translocation in Patients With Rheumatoid...

ArthritisRheumatoid

The main objective of this study is to compare the intestinal microbiota in newly diagnosed rheumatoid arthritis (RA) with that from individuals without RA. The first analysis will compare the proportion of filamentous bacteria in the intestinal microbiota between the two groups.

Genetics and Mechanisms of Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid ArthritisLeukocytes2 more

The study is aimed at revealing genetic background in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). For that purpose samples of DNA will be collected from 500 RA patients and similar number of controls from whole Slovakia. Variations in several genes associated with RA will be evaluated. The second aim is to assess functional changes in immune cells from selected patients and their evaluation together with genetic background. The project has observational character without any intention to change the treatment of RA patients.

Activity Limitations in Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid Arthritis

Objective: To evaluate what factors contribute to activity limitations in subjects with rheumatoid arthritis considering the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health model. Methods: A cross-sectional study on 81 individuals with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) using instruments to measure five constructs of the component activities.

NFKB1 and IKK Epsilon in Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic and auto-immune disorder whose primary characteristic is the chronic inflammation of joints. The objective of this study was to evaluate whether there was an association between the NF-KB1/IKK epsilon genetic expression and the clinical activity in RA. 60 RA patients were included in the study, 30 with clinical activity and 30 with clinical remission The NF-KB1/IKK epsilon genetic expression was performed by real time quantitative Polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) through the Pfaffl method of relative quantification with Taqman probes.

Retrospective Analysis of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) and Related Complications in Juvenile...

Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis

This study is designed to analyze the frequency and incidence rate of pulmonary complications in JIA participants who received biological DMARDs and non-biologic DMARDs. The participants having evidence of of a prescription or administration of one of the biologic or non-biologic DMARDs will be included in five different treatment groups. Data from the Thomson Reuters MarketScan® Commercial Claims and Medicare Supplemental Databases will be used to estimate the incidence rate of pulmonary complications.

Joint Ultrasound Evaluation of Asymptomatic Rheumatic Feet

Rheumatoid Arthritis

Objectives: The aims of the present study were to compare ultrasound on asymptomatic feet of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and normal controls, determine the association between ultrasound and global disease activity, function and goniometric measures in patients with RA and determine the correlation between ultrasound and radiography in the detection of bone erosion. Methods: The foot joints (talocrural, talocalcaneal, talonavicular, naviculocuneiform, calcaneocuboid, 5th tarsometatarsal and 1st to 5th metatarsophalangeal [MTP] joints) of 50 healthy subjects and 50 patients with RA (all with asymptomatic feet) were evaluated bilaterally regarding quantitative/semi-quantitative synovitis, semi-quantitative Power Doppler (PD) signals and erosion using ultrasound. Statistical significance was set to 5%.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

This multicenter observational study will evaluate the use of RoActemra/Actemra (tocilizumab) in monotherapy in patients with active moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis unable to use methotrexate. Eligible patients initiated on RoActemra/Actemra treatment will be followed for 6 months.
