Prevalence of Subclinical Atherosclerosis and Its Associated Factors in Hyperlipidemic Korean Adults...

Diabetes MellitusDyslipidemia

This study is to investigate correlation between Carotid Intima Media Thickness (cIMT) and several factors such as; hs C-reactive protein (CRP), HbA1c, lipid profile in Korean diabetic patients with atherosclerosis. Total 360 patients will be enrolled through 6 sites.

The Microbiome as a Target for Precision Medicine in Atherosclerosis

Acute Coronary SyndromeAtherosclerosis

Cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of death in industrialized countries. Among them, atherosclerosis has the highest prevalence and constitutes a common pathological pathway responsible for the majority of cases of chronic ischemic heart disease, acute myocardial infarction, heart failure and cerebrovascular disease. Classic studies have confirmed well-established etiopathogenic factors of atherosclerosis based on genetic and immunological components and environmental modifying agents such as diet and exercise. But in addition, recent experimental studies have shown that dysbiosis (alteration of the microbiota) may be an additional factor that participates in the onset and progression of atherosclerosis. The objective of this study is to identify the potential interactions between changes in the microbiota, changes in the immune status, the clinical evolution and the instability and progression of atherosclerosis.

Remote Ischemic Conditioning for Avoiding Recurrence of Symptomatic Intracranial Atherosclerotic...

Intracranial Atherosclerosis

The primary objective of the study will be to determine whether remote limb ischemic conditioning (RLIC) compared with sham RLIC (placebo) treatment reduces the 12-month risk of recurrent IS in patients with a recent TIA or IS caused by stenosis of a major intracranial artery. After screening period, eligible patients will be randomly allocated into 2 groups. In addition, all participants receive an usual clinical therapy.

The Sakakibara Health Integrative Profile Cohort Study

Cancer

Because of the genetic and traditional commonalities between the underlying causes of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and cancers, we hypothesized that patients with atherosclerotic CVD may have a high incidence of cancers when compared with those with non-atherosclerotic CVD. To address this hypothesis, we investigated longitudinal clinical outcomes in a total of 32,095 consecutive patients with CVD enrolled in the Sakakibara Health Integrative Profile (SHIP) cohort study which was launched in 2006 for the purpose of improving healthy life expectancy in patients with CVD in our institute.

7 Year Follow-up Study of the DanRisk Population

Cardiovascular DiseaseCoronary Artery Calcification1 more

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the incidence of cardiovascular events as well as progression of coronary artery calcium (CAC) in healthy middle-aged subjects over a period of 7 years, and the relation to traditional as well as new cardiovascular risk factors. METHODS: The Danrisk cohort was established in 2009-2010 based on random retrieval from the Danish national civil registry (N=1825). Initially, distribution of gender, area of residence and year of birth (1949 or 1959) were equal among the 4 involved centres (OUH, Svendborg, Vejle and Esbjerg). A total of 1257 subjects (69%) accepted the invitation to undergo cardiovascular risk evaluation including non-contrast enhanced cardiac CT-scan for CAC estimation, and a total of 1227 subjects were found free of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and diabetes (DM), and was included in the study back then. In 2014-2015 the DanRisk cohort was invited to a 5 year follow-up examination. The investigators examined a total of 1031 subjects (82%) in the investigators 4 regional centres. The follow-up examination included general health evaluation and estimation of CAC by non-contrast enhanced cardiac CT-scan. Information of death, cardiovascular events and medication usage was obtained from the Danish national patient register, the Danish register of causes of death and the Danish national database of reimbursed prescriptions in 2016.

Coffee Consumption and Coronary Artery Calcium Score

AtherosclerosisCardiovascular Diseases

Coffee is one of the dietary factors associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD) but its role in the cardiovascular system is not yet clear. Moreover, available evidence for the relation between coffee intake with subclinical atherosclerosis is limited and inconsistent. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between habitual coffee consumption and the presence of subclinical atherosclerosis measured as coronary artery calcium (CAC) in the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA-Brasil). This is a cross-sectional study based on baseline data from participants of the cohort ELSA-Brasil. In this analysis, only participants living in São Paulo with no prior history of CVD aged 35 to 74 years who underwent a CAC measurement (n=4,426) were included. Dietary data were collected using a validated food frequency questionnaire. Coronary calcification was detected with computed tomographic and it was expressed as Agatston units. CAC was further categorized as 0 or >0, and <100 or ≥100.

Carotid Ultrasound Sub-Study of the Familial Atherosclerosis Study-observational Study

Carotid Stenosis

This observational study looks at Carotid Stenosis in two groups of subjects using a non-invasive procedure, B-mode ultrasound. One group of subjects has had long-term intensive lipid altering therapy (lowering LDL-C plus raising HDL-C). The second group of patients has been on conventional "standard of care" treatment for carotid stenosis. The study will look at the Carotid Intima-media Thickness (CMIT) in both groups. Hypothesis: CIMT will differ between the two groups, such that the CIMT will be less in the subjects on intensive lipid altering therapy.

The Effect of Dates on Plasma Lipids, Oxidative Stress and the Atherogenicity of Serum in Healthy...

Atherosclerosis

It has been proven in in-vitro studies that dates decrease the oxidative stress in serum. There have been no in-vivo studies to this date. The current study aims to test whether dates consumption by healthy adults decreases serum oxidative stress and improves serum PON1 activity and serum lipid profile.
