Evaluation of Lower Extremity Athletic Injuries and Response to Treatment Using SWE and MFI
Lower Extremity Musculoskeletal InjuryPrimary Objective: To explore changes in shear wave elastography (SWE) and microvascular flow imaging (MFI) measurements from time of injury through the recovery phase of lower extremity musculoskeletal injuries to determine if a correlation exists with functional impairment. Secondary Objective: To develop a deep learning AI system for automated region of interest (ROI) determination for measurement of average SWE and MFI. Methodology: Eligible subjects with lower extremity injuries will undergo SWE and MFI measurements and complete the Lower Extremity Functional Scale questionnaire at each study visit. Clinical data related to the evaluation of the injury acquired during standard medical care of the injury will be collected from the patients' medical record such as CT or MRI scans, X-rays, physical exams and tests as well as laboratory measurements. Subjects will undergo serial SWE and MFI imaging throughout their rehabilitation episode of care to assess changes over time, status in rehabilitation and comparison to the contralateral extremity.
Acute Effect of Motor-Cognitive Training
Injury;SportsParticipants will complete a functional MRI to evaluate brain activation, functional connectivity, and behavioral performance immediately before and after a training program (approximately 30 minutes). The training program will comprise of integrate neuromuscular (agility, dynamic postural stability, shuffling, rapid acceleration/deceleration, plyometrics, lateral shuffle, and core stability) and cognitive (reaction time, processing speed, task switching, decision-making, and working memory) challenges.

Topical steroids may also cause negative side effects, making it necessary to find alternative skin care options for athletes such as tug-of-war athletes. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a topical hydrating cream for skin care in this population. The study involved using a moisturizing cream on the more severely affected side of one hand while the other hand acted as a comparative control group. After two weeks, the sides were switched, and the study continued for four weeks in total.

Prediction of Knee Injuries Through System Dynamics Modeling
Sport InjurySports Physical TherapyThe large number of studies in the recent decade dealing with knee injury prevention seems not effective enough to cause a decline in knee injury rates. Thus, it has been proposed to use non-linear mathematical models that simulate the operation of complex and dynamic systems. The present study aims to analyze the dynamic relationships of the risk factors for knee injuries through system dynamics modeling to effectively predict and prevent knee injury. The first part of this project includes a qualitative study informing the theoretical non-linear interrelationships among the risk factors. The aim is to examine the initial hypothetical model formulated in the first part of the project through statistical analysis such as factor analysis and structural equation modeling. Pre-season and in-season data from questionnaires and biomechanical measurements for risk factors will be collected from at least 100 athletes who participate in high-risk sports. The athletes will be monitored for injuries during one season, and these data will be used in the next part of the research plan. The next part of the project aims to develop a dynamic simulation model for predicting knee injuries using specific equations. The function of the simulation model will predict the propensity of knee injuries over time. The next step includes the validation and calibration of the model based on the knee injuries that occurred during the season. The validated and calibrated model will then provide implications for effective policy decisions in knee injury prevention.
