Virtual Reality for Pain in Acute Orthopedic Injuries
InjuriesInjury Arm11 moreThe goal of this study is to pilot test a skills-based virtual reality (VR) for acute orthopedic injury. It will measure the feasibility, signals of improvement, exploratory pain mechanisms, and user experience of an established skills-based program (RelieveVRx) for acute orthopedic injury.
A Complex Health Promotion Intervention in Parasport - The Safe & Healthy Parasport Project
Sport InjuryDiabetes3 moreThe interest in Para sport is steadily increasing. A concern is, though, that elite Para athletes report a high incidence of injuries and illnesses. Altogether, there is an urgent need to prevent such incidents among athletes already suffering from an impairment. However, most of the existing training-based prevention programmes are not adapted or accessible to Para athletes. Also, recent research suggests that sports safety work advantageously should facilitate disease prevention and health promotion. Such intervention would hypothetically also have the potential to reduce injuries, illnesses and improve health among Para athletes. To allow full implementation, the intervention would need to be adapted to the Para athletes´ various impairments, abilities and sports. MAIN QUESTIONS TO BE ADRESSED Can an evidence-based eHealth health promotion platform prevent sports injuries and illnesses in elite para athletes over 6 months, 12 months and 5 years? Can such platform improve overall health parameters such as sleep, nutrition and mental health in elite para athletes and influence the performance parameters training quantity and training quality over 6 months, 12 months and 5 years? Can such platform improve health literacy among Para athletes?

THE EFFECT OF RAMP LESION REPAIR ON RETURN TO SPORTS IN ANTERIOR CRUCIATE LIGAMENT RECONSTRUCTION...
ACLMeniscus Lesion1 morePurpose/reason of the research: The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is an important ligament in maintaining knee function. In patients with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, concomitant intra-articular lesions are usually seen. It has been reported that approximately 43% of all patients with ACL tears have associated lateral or medial meniscal injuries. Injury associated with a tear of the meniscotibial ligament in the posterior horn of the medial meniscus is defined as a RAMP lesion. Because the RAMP lesion is located within the posteromedial "blind spot", it has historically been underdiagnosed. It has been reported that 9-17% of all ACL tears have RAMP lesions. RAMP lesions have been found to increase the force on the ACL. Injury to the meniscotibial ligaments has been shown to increase rotational instability of the knee. Based on the available literature, there is a discrepancy between authors regarding the repair of a RAMP lesion during an acute ACL surgery. In chronic ACL rupture, some authors have suggested that the RAMP lesion has a suitable biological environment for healing. thinks. However, excessive mobility of the meniscocapsular junction has been reported in RAMP lesions during knee flexion and extension. It has been suggested that these lesions are different from other peripheral tears and are not suitable for spontaneous healing. It is suggested that meniscal RAMP lesion repair will be the most effective approach. Rehabilitation after repair of a RAMP lesion depends on whether the repair is performed concurrently with ACL surgery. When performed with an ACL surgery, the process is followed according to the ACL rehabilitation protocol. Even if the functionality of the knee is fully restored in the post-ACL surgery period, not all patients can return to their previous level of sportive performance due to various psychological, social and physiological factors. In the literature, different information can be found as criteria for returning to sports after ACL surgery. The rate of returning to sports was reported as 65-88% in patients with ACL reconstruction, and 19-82% in patients who were followed conservatively. However, there are few studies with short- or long-term follow-up after the identification and treatment of RAMP lesions. Accordingly, our aim in this study is to comprehensively evaluate the return to sports of participants who have undergone isolated anterior cruciate ligament surgery and who have had simultaneous RAMP lesion repair with anterior cruciate ligament surgery. This assessment will provide the opportunity to examine functional capacity, balance, psychological state, activity level and pain with different measurement methods. Material and method of the research: The study will consist of 2 groups, including 12 participants who have undergone isolated ACL surgery and 12 participants who have had simultaneous RAMP lesion repair in Istanbul Medipol Mega Hospitals Complex Orthopedics and Traumatology Unit, with a total of 24 participants.
A Sports Injury Prevention Program to Reduce Subsequent Injuries After Concussion
Brain ConcussionMusculoskeletal Injury2 moreThe long-term goal of this research is to implement methods that healthcare providers can use across diverse clinical settings to (1) identify athletes at risk for (musculoskeletal) MSK injury when cleared to return to play (RTP) after a concussion and (2) develop practical ways to reduce MSK injury risk following concussion RTP. The rationale is that once post-concussion MSK injury risk factors are known and prevention strategies tested, concussion RTP protocols will evolve to include injury risk reduction programs.
Safety Study of Flector Patch in Children With Minor Soft Tissue Injuries
Athletic InjuriesThe primary purpose of this study is to determine whether Flector Patch is safe for use in children. The secondary purpose is to assess blood levels of diclofenac, the active ingredient in Flector Patch.
Postural Control and Trunk Neuromuscular Activation in Athletes With Chronic Low Back Pain
Athletic InjuryLow Back PainThe relevance of this study is given by the feasibility to assess the effect of an intervention program based on the postural control and trunk neuromuscular activity, comparing two methods: stabilization exercises vs. back strengthening exercises, in athletes with low back pain. The main outcomes will be computed by electromyography measurement so that to assess the trunk neuromuscular activation pattern as well as by force platform parameters for determining of postural control. Clinical symptoms such as pain intensity, perception of disability and fear and avoidance will also be computed. This is the first study to compare two intervention methods using the main biological outcomes related to trunk neuromuscular function.
The Importance of Exercise to Prevent Injuries in Athletes
Injury;SportsIntroduction: running is one of the most accessible and practiced sports in the world since the 21st century. Unfortunately, the incidence of injuries in the population that practices it is high regardless of experience, although the risk of injury increases in amateur runners. One of the main keys to reduce the incidence of running related injuries may be to improve the ability to reduce the load or impact. For this, there are different strategies such as a gradual increase in the load to run, and exercise within which is muscle strengthening and balance training or proprioception. Objective: to verify the effectiveness of a program of proprioceptive exercises based on the static and dynamic balance for the reduction of lower limb injuries in amateur runners during the competition season.
Foam Rolling and Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy in Athletes
Athletic InjuriesThe main objective of the present study was to evaluate whether FR massage is effective in improving dynamic balance, flexibility and dynamic strength after intense exercise recovery compared to OMPT protocol or a control group. The present study was a randomized controlled trial. Amateur athletes will be recruited from two athletic clubs. Participants will be randomizing and allocating into three non-balanced groups through a computer software by an external assistant who will be blinding to the study objectives: FR group (n = 18), OMPT group (n = 15) and control group (CG) (n = 14). The intervention period will be lasting one day (1 session). Participant assessment will be perform twice: prior to the study (pre-intervention) and immediately after finishing the intervention (post-intervention). Interventions: FR group. FR auto-massage will place the foam roller between their ischial tuberosity and a hard surface (i.e., the floor) with their legs held in an extended position, keeping their ankles relaxed and oriented upward. For FR in the lumbar region, participants use their weight to slide the FR through the erector of the lumbar and thoracic spine. The total approximate duration will be about 10-15 minutes; OMPT group. Based on the protocol used by Espí-López et al.: a) Unspecific and bilateral lumbar thrust (L5-S1), one of each side were performed; The total duration will be approximately 10-15 minutes.; CG. The CG did not receive any intervention. Outcomes will be Lumbar flexibility, Hip flexion, Dynamic balance, Standing Jump and Impression of Change.
