Effectiveness of Basketball Pre-injury Attack Program to Reduce the Susceptibility of Injury in...
Injury;SportsBiomechanical Lesions2 moreBasketball is an impact, coordination-opposition sport with continuous contact among players and it is considered a sport of medium-high injury incidence. Players are force to have a physical condition appropriate to their practice and the demand to which they must respond due to the intensity of the efforts this sport requires. In order to achieve this, it is necessary to establish an evaluation protocol that allows the detection of functional deficiencies, to guide and conduct in a specific and early way every moment of players' health and growth. The purpose of this study is to design, apply and analyze the effectiveness of a specific and individualized therapeutic exercise program (Basketball Pre-injury Attack) based on the approach of the functional deficiencies detected by the Basketball Injury Defense, to reduce the susceptibility to injury of youth basketball players (U14 - U17).

DHA For The Treatment of Pediatric Concussion Related to Sports Injury
ConcussionMild Traumatic Brain InjuryIn recent years, media attention has focused on the long-term sequelae of repeated concussive episodes in professional athletes. The growing understanding of the damage done by what was once considered a "ding" during a game or match, and the neurologic consequences of "playing through" or returning to play too soon has led to additional interest in and concern for pediatric athletes (18 or under) who experience sports-related concussions during game or practice play. Because it has only been in recent years that the full scope of damage done by repeated concussive episodes has come to light, very little research has been done on treatment of concussion in either adults or children. Brain injuries in children can be especially problematic, as the brain may continue to develop until the child reaches the age of 24 or older, so concussion during this time of development may be particularly damaging. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is an omega-3 fatty acid commonly found in both fish oils and algae. DHA is known to improve development of the eyes and brain in young children. It is thought to be an effective anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant, and since it occurs naturally and causes very few harmful side effects, it may be a useful compound in the treatment of pediatric concussion. This is a feasibility trial of DHA for the treatment of sports concussion in a pediatric population. The investigators' primary aim is to determine acceptability of randomization for this compound as well as rate of enrollment given our clinical population. The investigators' secondary aim is to examine preliminary outcomes. The investigators hypothesize that subjects who take 2 g of DHA daily for 3 months will see a shorter time to full recovery and return to play and a shorter time to resolve balance disturbance. These are good, albeit unvalidated, clinical indicators of concussive recovery.
Integrative Ayurveda Healing Relieves Minor Sports Injury Pain
Acute PainSports InjurySports-related soft tissue injuries, such as sprains, strains, and contusions, are a common painful condition. Current treatment includes oral nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), which have a high incidence of intolerable gastrointestinal side effects. Ancient Indian healing system, Ayurveda addresses the need of sports medicine up to certain extent. In practice, there are different treatment modalities for injuries, uses of drugs & dietetics as well as practices of rehabilitation. Although, previous evidences support the efficacy of ayurveda practices with significant reduction in pain, joint tenderness, joint swelling, mobility restriction and early morning joint stiffness. But there is no treatment studies have been performed to evaluate the clinical outcome for specific sports injuries. This study assessed the efficacy and safety of ayurveda gel and patches applied to the painful injury site for the treatment of acute minor sports injury pain.
Single Focused Shock Wave in the Release od Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS)
Musculoskeletal PainAthletic InjuriesThe study is a single-center, double blinded, randomized controlled trial aimed to investigate the effects of focused extracorporeal shockwave therapy (fESWT) on Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) of the non-dominant biceps brachialis muscle in healthy voluntary adults.
Effects of Lumbosacral Chiropractic on the Olympic Style Weightlifting Athletes
Athletic InjuriesIt is known that low back injuries experienced by weightlifting athletes cause a decrease in performance. The effects of spinal manipulative therapy, which has been found to positively affect performance in various sports, are not known in the Olympic style weightlifting athletes. This study is aimed to investigate the effects of lumbosacral chiropractic spinal manipulative therapy on muscle strength, range of motion, balance, and pain in Olympic style weightlifting athletes. In this research, 40 male Olympic style weightlifting athletes are planned to take place. Male athletes will be randomly divided into two groups as a control and a treatment group. To the individuals in the treatment group; lumbal region chiropractic high-speed, low amplitude (High Velocity, Low amplitude: HVLA) spinal manipulation and sacroiliac joint chiropractic HVLA manipulation are planned to perform once a week for a total of three weeks. No manipulation will be made to individuals in the treatment group. Before and after the manipulation; the maximum isometric muscular force, the lumbar spine range of motion, balance performance and pain intensity will be evaluated by a back dynamometer, hand finger-ground distance test (HFGD), and Modified Schober test, flamingo balance test, and visual analog scale. SPPS 25 (IBM Corp. Released 2017. IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 25.0. Armonk, NY: IBM Corp.) version will be used to analyze the data.
Sport Specific Training Versus Neuromuscular Training on Field Rugby Players.
Athletic InjuriesRandomized Clinical Trial in rugby sports club in Lahore. A Sample size of 26 is calculated using epitol.Group A: Sports specific training Treatments will be provided in 30 mins per week for 3 consecutive weeks. Weight programs include closed chain exercises (squats, pushups) and open chain exercises (leg press, chest fly using dumbbell) Stretch shortening cycle (enhances performance through storage of elastic energy during eccentric phase and activation of stretch reflex). Group B: neuromuscular training Treatments will be provided in 30 mins per week for 3 consecutive weeks Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF)
Ketone Supplementation in Adolescents Post-Concussion
ConcussionMild7 moreAdolescent brains undergo rapid and significant changes in structural architecture and functional organization during development. A concussive injury during this developmental period can have substantial physiological and cognitive ramifications. If not adequately managed, adolescent concussions can have profound long-term effects. The purpose of this study is to determine whether ketone supplementation after a concussion will reduce long-term consequences and improve short-term functional status and outcomes in adolescents who have suffered a concussion.
Implementation of the I-PROTECT Model
Athletic InjuriesEvidence-based injury prevention training is highly effective in reducing sport-related musculoskeletal injuries in youth. However, this training has so far had limited public health impact because it is not widely or properly implemented or sustained. In this single case study with youth teams from two handball clubs in Southern Sweden, the aim is to test the I-PROTECT model, featuring injury prevention training and an associated implementation plan. The main hypothesis is that the intervention will result in higher motivational and volitional levels in relation to injury prevention training.
