Facebook for Social Skills Training in Autism: Project Rex Connect
Autism Spectrum DisorderTwelve participants were randomized to either a Facebook group or a book club group for six weeks. Data was collected on the participants social and behavioral function at both the start and the conclusion of the intervention.
Parent Telehealth Intervention for Children With Autism
Autism Spectrum DisorderAutismAs a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, telecoaching/telepractice models are of urgent importance. Given this, parents in the study will receive parent coaching through weekly video calls. To help us understand the best types of telecoaching, we will offer all participants responsive coaching, with half of the participants receiving an additional opportunity to reflect on their own use of language strategies with a therapist using video feedback and the other half receiving responsive coaching as usual, without video feedback. This information is important in helping us to understand the best way to coach parents using a telepractice model so that parents implement the intervention at high fidelity. Furthermore, we will aim to understand how parent learning style may also influence the implementation of these strategies.
OT Intervention Via Telehealth for Children With ASD and ADHD
Autism Spectrum DisorderAttention Deficit Hyperactivity DisorderThis study aims to measure the impact of a telehealth-based model of occupational therapy (OT) treatment on clinical outcomes for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and/or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Half of the participants will receive clinic-based, in-person services and half of the participants will receive video-based, Telehealth services.
A+ Treatment/Feasibility of Adapted ESDM-informed Caregiver Coaching Delivered Remotely for Children...
Autism Spectrum DisorderAdhdThis study will evaluate the feasibility of adapted ESDM-informed caregiver coaching in children with comorbid ASD and ADHD, who are between 36 and <132 months of age. There will be no study provided medication treatment in this study. Children will either be on ADHD medication prescribed by their own personal provider or will not be taking any ADHD medication (this will be documented by the study). The provided behavioral treatment will be eight ~60-minute sessions in ESDM-informed caregiver coaching delivered remotely through telehealth, for 8 consecutive weeks. The behavioral treatment is provided to children through Early Start Denver Model (ESDM)-informed caregiver coaching strategies, implemented within the child's typical daily routine by the caregiver.
Micronutrient Supplementation in Children With ASD
Autism Spectrum DisorderAn open-label examination of changes in metabolites with use of micronutrients in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Investigators will also measure behavioral measures monthly at school with teachers and parents report.
Internet-based Coaching for Young Adults With Neuropsychiatric Disorders
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity DisorderAutism Spectrum Disorder1 morePurpose: To develop a model for internet-based support and coaching to young adults with neuropsychiatric disorders (NPD). To improve the individual's psychosocial functioning and his/her understanding of how he/she is functioning. NPD comprise problems with social interaction, attention, impulse control and hyperactivity. The most common NPD diagnoses are ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), autism spectrum condition (ASC) and Tourette's disorder (TD). In this study the investigators use Internet-based treatment for young adults with NPD. Method: Support/coaching by using communication over the Internet (chat and e-mail) with individuals with NPD. Twice every week during 8 weeks, young adults with NPD are offered support and coaching over the Internet by psychologist/educational therapist with great experience from NPD. The individuals are assessed before and after treatment pertaining to quality of life, sense of coherence, self-esteem, depressive and anxiety symptoms, and parents' evaluation of the young adult's situation.
An Interdisciplinary Approach to the Treatment of Encopresis in Children With Autism Spectrum Disorders...
EncopresisAutistic DisorderThe purpose of this study is to try to treat bowel movement (BM) accidents differently with children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The study will use over-the-counter (OTC) medications to evoke predictable bowel movements. This will make it possible for investigators to use certain strategies to reward BMs in the toilet. Independence will be increased by fading out the use of medications. The investigators will also train caregivers to implement the procedures.
BCI (Brain Computer Interface) Intervention in Autism
Autism Spectrum DisorderThis study aims to demonstrate that improvements in identification of social clues (and improvement of overall social behaviour) in subjects with ASD can be achieved using social games together with a BCI setup. The primary goal is to ensure increased rate of responses to joint attention cues. Intervention Type is a Device (brain computer interface using EEG). Structure: (1) initial eligibility screening (within 1 week after admission), (2) pre-intervention (first week of study, baseline outcome measures and additional evaluations), (3) intervention process (16 weeks), (4) post-intervention (outcome measures and additional evaluations), and (5) follow-up (outcome measures at 6 months).
Martial Arts Therapy in Autism Spectrum Disorders
Autism Spectrum DisordersThe purpose of the present study was to determine whether teaching Karate techniques training leads to reduction in communication deficit of children with autism spectrum disorders.
Build Your Parenting Toolkit: Guiding Children to Become Flexible Thinkers
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)Developmental DisorderThis pilot project is a cooperative effort between the Leisure in Fun Environments (LIFE) Program and the Specialized Communication Resources for Children (SCRC) Program at the Rehabilitation Centre for Children (RCC). The investigators will blend and enhance two pre-existing programs in order to provide a new, specialized program for parents of children with ASD or developmental delay. The two programs that will be blended together are "Promoting Flexible Thinking and Interaction with Your Child at Home" and "Saturday Cooking Club." This new program will be a series of ten workshops that alternates between "parents only" learning sessions and practical "cooking club" sessions that allow parents to focus on practicing what they are learning with their child. These programs are based on the principles of Relationship Development Intervention (RDI®), which focuses on providing opportunities to establish a guided participation relationship, which will lead to development of dynamic intelligence and important social thinking abilities. The program is individualized to each child and builds on the principles of typical development to assist the child in achieving social competence. Using this program, children are expected to develop sociability in a naturally progressing order of complexity.
