Stanford Center for Back Pain
Chronic Low Back PainThe purpose of the Stanford Center for Back Pain is to investigate and characterize the mechanisms of four treatments for chronic low back pain. These interventions (research treatment) include real-time fMRI neurofeedback, mindfulness based stress reduction, cognitive behavioral therapy, and acupuncture treatment. The investigators plan to characterize both mechanisms of treatment effects and efficacy.
Neural Mechanisms of Meditation for Opioid-Treated Chronic Low Back Pain
Low Back PainOpioid UseThe purpose of this research study is to see how a mindfulness meditation-based intervention affects pain. Specifically, we are interested in understanding the pain-relieving brain mechanisms of mindfulness meditation-based therapy for patients with opioid-treated chronic low back pain.
Cognitive Muscular Therapy for Low Back Pain
Low Back PainChronic Pain1 moreThe primary aim of this study is to adapt Cognitive Muscular Therapy so that it can be used to manage chronic low back pain. A secondary aim is to understand the potential therapeutic benefit of this intervention.
Lumbar Belt Benefit Compared to the Usual Care in the Treatment of Non-specific Low Back Pain
Low Back PainLumbar belt benefit compared to the usual care in the treatment of non-specific low back pain -an interventional, prospective, multicenter, randomized, open and controlled.study
Lumbar Steroid Use in Patients Undergoing Posterior Lumbar Decompression
Opioid UseLumbar Spinal Stenosis4 moreThis study seeks to evaluate the impact of intra-operative topical epidural steroid usage in patients undergoing 1-2 level lumbar laminectomy. The study will examine post-operative opioid usage, length of stay, return to work, and patient reported outcomes following these procedures.
Study to Evaluate Automated Intensity Management in Patients Undergoing a BSC SCS Temporary Trial...
Chronic PainIntractable Pain5 moreThe purpose of the study is to assess the feasibility of using information extracted from physiologic signals to automatically adjust stimulation in patients undergoing Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS).
Accessible Acupuncture for the Warrior With Acute Low Back Pain
AcupunctureLow Back PainThe objective of this study is to determine if auricular acupuncture and/or the acupuncture point governor vessel 26 (GV26) with manual tonification is superior to conservative management (NSAIDs) at reducing acute low back pain (less than 4 weeks in duration).
TENS for Back Pain Emergency Department
Back PainIn this study we will see if application of TENS for a period of 30 minutes in addition to ibuprofen reduces the pain of emergency department patients with back pain compared with ibuprofen and a sham TENS unit.
Gamified Rehab vs Take-home Packet Rehab for Non-specific Low Back Pain
Non-specific Low Back PainTwo groups with non-specific low back pain will be completing the same exercise protocol. The leaderboard group will have a gamified experience and the take-home packet group will be using a paper take-home packet. Outcomes will be measured at 3 weeks, 6 weeks, with pain and disability also being measured at 12 and 18 months.
ED Physical Therapy for Chronic Low Back Pain
Low Back PainEmergency department (ED)-initiated physical therapy is a rapidly growing resource and represents a promising treatment approach to low back pain. This clinical trial will evaluate an innovative model of an emergency department "embedded" physical therapist to treat patients with chronic low back pain, with a focus on improving patient functioning and reducing opioid use.
