Screens, Virtual Reality and Digital Addiction (EVADD)
Internet Addiction DisorderThis is an observational study questionnaire-based. This study will be carried out to evaluate the methods of consumption (work/outside work), the characteristics of the tools used, the addictive risk, the consequences on mental and physical health and the impact on quality of life of people exposed to screens and smartphones. A sample of 800 000 people will be used to learn about the entire French population. Participants will be asked to respond to an anonymous digital survey. The ultimate goal of this work is to have quality information to help facilitate therapeutic efforts in support of those who may need it.

Validation of the Cannabis Abuse Screening Test in General Practice(GP-CAST)
CannabisAddictive Behavior4 moreIn France, consumption levels of alcohol, tobacco and cannabis remain high despite changes in regulations aimed at limiting access to these products and repeated prevention campaigns. The various Presidential Plans for the treatment and prevention of addictions for 2007-2011 and 2018-2022 show the concern of the public authorities on the issue of multiple consumption, encouraging general practitioners to identify and research this issue. In order to better identify and evaluate high-risk cannabis use, the French Observatory for Drugs and Drug Addiction has developed a detection tool: The Cannabis Abuse Screening Test (CAST). Although recommended in France, this questionnaire has never been tested in real primary care conditions, directly with patients consulting general medicine. The main objective of this study is the validation of a scale for the identification of problematic cannabis use, CAST, with a response modality according to a Likert scale (rated from 0 to 4 : 0 "never", 1 "rarely", 2 "occasionally", 3 "quite often", 4 "very often") or a binary response modality (response by 1 "Yes" or 0 "No") in patients who have used cannabis in the past 12 months, followed in general practice and in 3 age categories (15-18 years, 18-25 years and 25-45 years). The secondary objective is to analyze the polydrug use of alcohol and tobacco, and then the relationship between them and the level of cannabis use. This validation study of diagnostic scales in real-life situations with general medicine patients allows us to focus on the human and social sciences and public health. Although it has now been established that there is a synergy between several addictive substances with respect to cancer risks, few studies have focused on the early identification of misuse or polydrug use. However, it has been shown that general practitioners (GPs) are effective and relevant players in these fields. Because of their holistic vision of the patient, GPs are in the best position to identify consumers at risk of complications without blaming, dramatizing or trivializing. It is therefore necessary to provide GPs with early detection tools to promote contact between these patients and the healthcare system.

FMRI of Dietary Decision-making in Food Addicted Participants Compared to Non-food Addicted Participants...
Food AddictionObesity3 moreWhy in some situations can words soothe our cravings? This research proposal will test the power of self-generated reasons for behavioural change in food addiction, which concerns about three out of ten persons and causes major life hazards such as obesity, diabetes and cancer. While food addiction is becoming more and more frequent in western societies, not much is known about its underlying neurocognitive mechanisms and how to tackle it. This study aims to investigate if and why certain types of affirmation-based therapies such as motivational interviewing (MI) are beneficial for the treatment of food addiction. The working hypothesis proposes that cognitive regulation-based self-control underpins the neurocognitive shift of a patient's willingness to change addictive behaviour, generated by the patient during MI therapy of food addiction. To test this hypothesis this study combines functional magnetic resonance imaging with behavioural testing of dietary decision-making following a participant's change or sustain talk statements. It will compare three groups of participants with and without food addiction and obesity and lean controls. This study will contribute to the improvement of therapies based upon talking oneself in and out of addiction promoting goals. Findings will provide a better understanding of how our everyday life dietary decision-environments prompt good intentions such as improving long-term nutritional quality to actual behaviours such as forgoing immediate desire.
