Effects of Active Video Games in Physically Inactive Children

Self-PerceptionBody Weight

Inactivity was reported to be high in children and considered to be the fourth common cause of death in all ages. The reason for children is usually the increasing indoor use of sedentary screen time. Active Video Games (AVG) have recently been introduced for decreasing the sedentary time for children and directing them to physical activity (PA) at home. The aim of this study is to show the quantitative effect of games on physical fitness parameters like weight, body mass index (BMI) and fat ratio (FR). The study also aims at the factors for motivation or continuance of the games as self-perception and enjoyment levels together with qualitative effects of games on satisfaction and attitude changes in inactive children.

Flossing Technique With Neuromuscular Reeducation Exercises in Trained Subjects

WeightBody

Introduction. A deficit of dorsiflexion and motor control can limit the performance of a squat. Neuromuscular reeducation exercises, mobility and elasticity are used in the neuromuscular control and mobility of the kinetic chain. The Flossing technique is applied to improve ankle mobility and the perception of effort. Objective. To compare the efficacy of a protocol for neuromuscular reeducation exercises, mobility and elasticity, and the Flossing technique in ankle mobility and perception of effort when performing squats. Study design. Randomized, multicenter, single-blind clinical study with a follow-up period. Methodology. 40 weightlifters included in the study will be assigned randomly to the study groups: experimental (protocol of reeducation exercises plus the application of the Flossing technique) and control (protocol of reeducation exercises). The intervention will last 4 weeks, with two weekly sessions of 15 minutes each. The variables of the study will be the range of movement of ankle dorsiflexion (Weight Bearing Lunge Test) and the perception of the effort during the squat (Borg scale). A descriptive statistical analysis will be carried out calculating the main statistical characteristics. The distribution of the sample will be analyzed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnof test. In case of homogeneity, parametric tests will be used to calculate changes after each evaluation (t-student) and the intra- and intersubject effect (repeated measures ANOVA). Expected results. Improvement in dorsiflexion of the ankle and decrease in the perception of effort during the squat.

Dosing Iodinated Contrast Media According to Lean vs. Total Body Weight

Contrast Media Dosing

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of dosing iodinated contrast media according to a patient's total body weight vs. lean body weight. Participants will be randomized into 2 groups based on contrast dosing technique, and solid organ enhancement at uniphasic abdominal CT will be measured.

Whole-Body Vibration Training and Pilates Exercises for Healthy Women

Healthy LifestyleBody Weight1 more

This study aimed to compare the effects of whole-body vibration (WBV) training and Pilates exercises on physical fitness, fatigue, and physical self-perception in healthy women. This study was carried out on 36 healthy sedentary female subjects. Subjects were divided into three groups; Pilates training group, WBV training group, and control group. In the Pilates group, the exercises were performed with "Reformer®" for eight weeks, twice in a week, 45-min per day. In the WBV group, the training was given "Power Plate®" for eight weeks, twice in a week, and 30 minutes in a day. The control group did not receive any training.

This is a randomized control trial, in which ninety women will be conveniently selected but their distribution in a groups will be randomized according to a predetermined randomization list in chronological sequence of inclusion. A three parallel groups, two experimental and one control (labeled A, B and C respectively) will be provided with the same details menu for seven days in except the second snack, depending on their body mass index (BMI); women with BMI 25-30 kg/m² will be provided 1300 calories diet and for women with BMI above 30 kg/m², 1500 calories diet will be provided; in which high protein snack (Plain Greek yogurts) will be provided to the first experimental group (A), high fat snack (peanuts) to the second experimental group (B) and second snack (Plain Greek yogurt or peanuts) will be removed to the control group (C) (Appendix A). The first experimental group (A) will consume (33) g (200) calories of roasted, not salted peanuts after-lunch as snack. The second experimental group (B) will consume (148) g (200) calories of Plain Greek yogurt after-lunch as snack. The control group (C) will consume isoenergetic/equi protein regular three main meals with the first snack only.

FOODS: Food shOppers' sOcial meDia Study

Eating Behaviour of Discretionary FoodsCognitive Restraint of Eating2 more

This study aims to assess the effects of a new approach to food labelling called physical activity calorie equivalent (PACE) labelling. PACE food labelling provides the public with information about how many minutes (or miles/kilometres) of physical activity (e.g. walking or running) are equivalent to the calories contained in foods.

Innovative Biotechnological Production of Antioxidant Products

Oxidative StressInflammation2 more

Several natural compounds have been explored as immune-boosting, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory dietary supplements. Amongst them, hydroxytyrosol a natural antioxidant found in olive products, and endemic medicinal plants have attracted the scientific's community and industry's interest. The safety and biological activity of a standardised supplement containing 10 mg of hydroxytyrosol synthesized using genetically modified Escherichia coli strains and equal amounts (8.33 μL) of essential oils from oregano vulgaris, sage officinalis and crithmum maritimum in an open-label, single-arm, prospective clinical study were studied. The supplement capsules were given to 12 healthy subjects, aged 26-52, once a day for 8 weeks.
