Differentiation of Pseudoprogression and True Progression Through High Field Susceptibility Weighted...

Radiation InjuryRadiation Necrosis

Using a multi-echo gradient echo sequence to calculate R2* and quantitative susceptibility maps and well as susceptibility-weighted imaging post processing the investigators hypothesize that the investigators would be able to distinguish between pseudoprogression and true progression with the use of an easily implementable sequence on clinical MRI scanners.

mHealth Messages to Sustain Recent Weight Loss - Phase 2

Weight Loss

To assess the feasibility to translate an automated weight loss message intervention to a weight loss clinic population. Aim 1: To assess feasibility of translating the intervention in a clinic for patients who recently completed a structured weight loss program. Aim 2: To assess the ability to capture a trajectory of self-reported weight over 6 months through an automated intervention.

Additional Protein Fortification in Extremely Low Birth Weight Infants

Premature BirthInfant2 more

Postnatal growth is a crucial in premature infants as it could be correlated with the long-term cognitive development. Optimal nutritional care is required to reduce the initial weight loss and further growth deficit. The quantitative objective is to achieve growth that is at least equivalent to that of the fetus (on average 15 g/kg.day (12-18 g/kg.day according to gestational age). Children often grow during difficult 10-15 first days of life, so they accumulate a delay that should compensate them secondarily. Therefore, optimum postnatal growth is rather 20 g/kg.day than 15 g/kg.day. Individualized fortification of human milk (HM) has been proposed to optimize postnatal growth. Specifically, the lack of protein intake is responsible for sub-optimal postnatal growth in preterm infants. The objectives of this study are to determine the effectiveness of additional protein fortification (APF) in terms of short-term growth along with the proportion of extremely low birth weight (ELBW) infants requiring APF.

Effectiveness of Video Messaging About Diet, Exercise and Weight Gain in Pregnancy in Regional and...

PregnancyWeight Gain

The primary purpose of this study is to assess the responses of pregnant women and their social network to six videos about health in pregnancy. Our goal is to assess a) acceptability and b) understanding of core messages about healthy eating, exercise and weight gain during pregnancy. We will also assess c) non-clinical sources of health information during pregnancy.

The Use of Electrical Bioimpedance to Evaluate Dry Weight in Patients With Chronic Renal Failure...

Chronic Renal FailureDialysis2 more

INTRODUCTION: Accurate estimation of dry weight (DW) is an important and difficult problem in clinical practice. DW is defined as the lowest weight after hemodialysis (HD) where the patient will not develop symptoms of hypotension and edema, in addition to not using antihypertensives. Achieving a fluid balance benefits the control of blood pressure and reduces cardiovascular risk. In most HD centers, the DW is estimated using a subjective method dependent on the signs and symptoms that the patient presents. Recently, several approaches have been studied to develop a standardized DW evaluation technique. Among these, the analysis of electric bioimpedance vectors (BIVA) has been recognized as a simple and promising method with high reproducibility. OBJECTIVE: To use BIVA to improve dry weight estimation in patients with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis. Methods: This is a non-randomized pre-test / post-test clinical trial, where the universe of patients comes from the hemodialysis unit of the General State Hospital of Sonora. Patients who have limb amputations, pacemakers, metal implants, who are under renal transplant protocol or who have a renal transplant, and presence of infectious foci will be restricted from participating. The diagnosis of DW in the patients will be performed for modification and follow-up. Fluid status will be evaluated using BIVA. Measurements will be made before and after HD in three consecutive weekly periods and one one final assessment at three months. At the beginning of each period, weight, electrolytes, creatinine, total proteins, albumin, pre-albumin, urea and blood pressure will be measured to calculate the Malnutrition Inflammation Score and Bilbrey Index. At the end of the HD protocol of each period, body composition and muscle strength will be evaluated through triceps skinfold, mid-upper arm circumference and dynamometry. The dialysis dose received will be modified according to BIVA. The main variables to be considered will be DW, extracellular water and blood pressure. The duration of the study will be approximately 6 months. In addition, at the end of each measurement, each participant will be given a nutritional recommendation (feeding guide) specific to their energy requirements.

Energy Expenditure and Weight Loss Maintenance

ObesityWeight Change3 more

Obesity is reaching epidemic proportions and threatens both health and quality of life of people around the world. While many individuals succeed at short term weight loss, weight loss maintenance is the greatest barrier to successful treatment of obesity. High levels of physical activity are consistently associated with success in weight loss maintenance. The major goal of this proposal is to understand how and why high levels of physical activity are critical for long term maintenance of weight loss. This project takes advantage of the National Weight Control Registry (NWCR), which follows over 6000 individuals who have maintained a weight loss of ≥30 pounds for ≥1 year. Understanding how individuals successful at weight loss maintenance achieve energy balance will provide important insight into strategies to help more people sustain a weight loss.

PCORnet Bariatric Study

ObesityBariatrics5 more

The main goal of this research project is to conduct a comparative effectiveness research study involving existing data in the PCORnet Common Data Model to provide accurate estimates of the 1-, 3-, and 5-year benefits and risks of the three most common bariatric procedures - Roux-en-y gastric bypass, adjustable gastric banding, and sleeve gastrectomy - with a focus on outcomes that are important to adults and adolescents with severe obesity: 1) changes in weight, 2) rates of remission and relapse of diabetes, and 3) major adverse events.

Evaluation of Program for Length Based Weight Estimation

Length-based Weight EstimationBody Weights and Measures

The purpose of this prospective single center study is to investigate if a developed program is more accurate than the anesthesia tape ("Anästhesie-Lineal"). For this study 1000 patients are required to collect anonymized data (length, weight, age, anesthesia material used during anesthesia) for achieving a power of 80% during statistical analysis. The main hypothesis ist that the program has a better accuracy than the anesthesia tape ("Anästhesie-Lineal").

Sleep During Weight Loss and Weight Loss Maintenance

SleepWeight Loss

The purpose of the study is to examine the changes of sleep during weight loss and weight loss management. The research staff will also obtain data on sleep disturbances, insomnia symptoms, risk of sleep apnea, circadian preferences, weight loss self-efficacy, emotional eating, executive functioning, loneliness and social isolation, and patients' beliefs about how sleep might impact their weight control or vice versa.
