Individuals with type 1 diabetes (T1D) are at greater risk of fracture than non-diabetic subjects. Although the mechanisms underlying bone fragility in T1D are not completely understood, insulin deficiency seems to play a key role. To date, no information is available on the effect of diabetes remission after pancreatic transplantation alone (PTA) on the risk of fractures in T1D individuals with preserved kidney function. The overall objective of this retrospective cohort study is to evaluate the effect of T1D remission after PTA on fracture risk. The primary endpoint will be the difference in fracture incidence (any fracture) between the PTA group and the control group. For the PTA group, the incidence of fractures after transplantation will be considered. Data from patients who underwent PTA at IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital from January 2, 2005 to December 31, 2017 will be compared with age-, gender- and disease duration-matched controls from the pool of outpatients with T1D attending the Endocrinology Unit at the same Institution. Anthropometric, anamnestic, laboratory data and data on the history of fractures and past/current therapies will be collected. With this study, for the first time we will be able to obtain information on the effects of diabetes remission on the risk of fracture. We expect that the remission of diabetes will result in a beneficial effect on the fracture risk.

The objective of this study is to determine the impact of a postoperative educational intervention program on the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of patients with hip fracture using a controlled clinical trial in a randomized, multicenter study. A total of 224 patients will be recruited, 102 patients from trauma units at the two University Hospitals of the province of Cáceres will receive the educational program, whereas 122 will not. Patients will consecutively included in either an intervention or a control group. Patients from the intervention group reill eceive an educational program during admission and the postoperative period. Patients from the control group will not receive any educational program. These patients will manage according to routine protocols.

Intramedullary nailing is the standard treatment of trochanteric fractures. Mechanical failure such as cut-out and cut-through are associated with high rates of revision surgery, functional impairment and mortality. Augmentation of the implant have shown encouraging results in reducing the number of mechanical failures. The aim of the study was to evaluate the rate of mechanical failure of the cement augmented screws of TFNA nails. A descriptive, retrospective, multi-operator, single-centre study was performed at our level 1 trauma centre. Patients were included if they were > 65 years of age, presented with a trochanteric fracture treated with an augmented TFNA nail. The primary outcome was fixation failure rate (cut-out or cut-through) at 3 and 6 postoperative months. Secondary endpoints were intraoperative data, clinical scores, and radiographic analysis.

Postoperative delirium（POD）is a common complication that can directly affect important clinical outcomes, and exert an enormous burden on patients, their families, hospitals, and public resources. In order to evaluate whether an intraoperative administration of low-dose neuroleptanalgesia reduces postoperative delirium, droperidol 1.25 mg and fentanyl 0.025 mg or normal saline is used by intravenous injection 30 minutes before the end of the operation, in elderly patients with non-cardiac major surgery under general anesthesia. The efficiency and safety of neuroleptanalgesia on the incidence of POD would be evaluated in elderly patients.

The absence of methodologically, prospectively and retrospectively collected information on the use of the Quadrilateral Surface Plate (QSP) in the given indication requires a multicenter approach. Using a registry to get more information about the effectiveness and possible benefits or complications during the surgery and during the post-operative treatment is adequate and necessary to get new insights to the use of the Quadrilateral Surface Plate.

This post-market surveillance research project consists of data collection at specified time points using standard questionnaire instruments to compare pain level, mobility and function pre and post procedure using the D-Fine StabiliT® Vertebral Augmentation System and StabiliT® Bone Cement, an FDA approved product used in the standard treatment of vertebral compression fractures.

Spinal injuries, such as vertebral fractures, often result in a significant instability of the spine and lead to acute or delayed neurological deficits. Depending on the type of injury there are various methods available to stabilize the spine. The proposed study should clarify whether the combined reduction and fixation with a minimally invasive approach can actually be done with the same precision as in a conventional approach. The primary endpoint of this investigation is the monosegmental anterior wedge angle (AWA), and its maintenance over the first 6 postoperative weeks. It is the aim of the study to gather key radiological, clinical and subjective patient outcome parameters for its patient population that will allow to compare the results to a historical group of patients. The study design is non-interventional, prospective, open,and multicentric.

The purpose of this study is to assess whether all frail elderly admitted with hip fracture has a vitamin D deficiency, and if s-25(OH)D deficiency increases the risk of hip fracture in frail elderly. Frail elderly are defined as being 65 years of age or older, and living in nursing homes or senior housings. The investigators' hypotheses state that: Frail elderly with hip fractures will have a suboptimal level of vitamin D. Frail elderly with hip fractures are more likely to have a suboptimal level of vitamin D than frail elderly without any hip fractures during the last ten years.
