The purpose of this study is to find out the best treatment for subcapital and shaft fractures of the 5. metacarpal. It is a prospective randomized multicenter study. Comparing only fractures dislocated more than 30 degrees. One group will be operated with intramedullary pins and one group will be treated conservatively with reduction and then Plaster of Paris for 3 weeks. All patients will be followed up after 3, 6 and 12 months.

The purpose of the study is to determine whether surgical hemostats can minimize blood loss, need for allogeneic blood transfusions and their associated risks, and costs in patients with certain acetabular fractures requiring operative fixation via a non-extensile Kocher-Langenbeck surgical approach. Since surgical hemostats and other topical agents like platelet gel products have also been linked with improved wound healing, incidence of wound dehiscence and/or infections will also be examined. The investigators primary hypothesis is the topical hemostat will result in lower blood losses intraoperatively and fewer units of perioperative blood product transfused.

The aim of this study is to assess whether intra-operative fluid supplementation (to improve tissue perfusion) can reduce the incidence of postoperative complications in elderly patients with hip fracture.

The purpose of this study is to monitor the performance of the Pinnacle™ Cup with a ceramic-on-ceramic bearing combination in the treatment of patients with hip joint disease requiring a total hip replacement. Patients who enter the study will be evaluated at regular intervals following hip surgery using patient, clinical and x-ray assessments.

This is a prospective, randomized, multi-center pilot study of isolated, displaced neck fractures of the fifth metacarpal. The patients are randomly assigned to osteosynthesis with antegrade intramedullary splinting or conservative treatment.

This research project is a multi-year proposal, with the goals of answering and evaluating the following: Does an intramedullary locking device applied in an extra-articular distal radius fracture improve post operative pain, diminish hospitalization, improve early return to activity and function compared to a volar locked plate? Does an intramedullary locking device applied in an extra-articular distal radius fracture improve patient related outcome measures compared to a volar locked plate?

The purpose of this study is to compare the performance of 4 designs of the DePuy Ultima LX hip stem in the treatment of patients with hip joint disease requiring a total hip replacement. Patients who enter the study will be randomly allocated to one of the 4 designs of the DePuy Ultima LX hip stem and will be evaluated at regular intervals following hip surgery using patient, clinical and x-ray assessments.

The investigators will compare intramedullary nailing of open and closed tibia shaft fractures with carbon fiber implant versus titanium implant in a Level I trauma setting.

This study will evaluate the use of free autologous dermal fat grafting (also called free dermal fat autografting) to treat complex craniofacial wounds that have failed standard treatment and to understand how well these grafts work to repair wounds long term. Patients who have undergone free autologous dermal fat grafting to treat complex craniofacial wounds 2-30 years ago will have photographs and small biopsies taken of the area that was grafted.
