iPod and Other MP3 Players on ICDs and Pacemakers in Children

Heart BlockBradycardia2 more

Unlike phones, which are commonly held to the ear, music is now available via portable MP3 players and they can be held almost anywhere. Thaker et al state that Apple iPods cause pacemaker interference in 50% of their patients, with over-sensing in 20% of patients, telemetry interference in 29% of patients and pacemaker inhibition in 1.2% of patients. The mean age for their sample was 76.1 years +/- 8.6 years. We anticipate that a higher proportion of teenagers and children who have pacemakers use portable MP3 players than in the elderly adult population. We will include the first 100 patients with pacemakers and ICDs who consent for the prospective observational study a single tertiary care center. We intend to conduct a descriptive study, tabulating the number of times that a pacemaker or ICD has changes in the sensing thresholds, pacing thresholds, telemetry interference or pacemaker inhibition when exposed to a series of portable MP3 players at various distances. In addition, we will describe the nature and quantitative differences of those changes.

Thoracic Erector Spinae Plane Block for Painless 1st Stage Normal Vaginal Delivery: Randomized Controlled...

Numerical Rating Pain Scorethe Total Doses of Pethidine Needed Through-out Delivery Will be Measured3 more

this study will test a novel indication for bilateral erector spinae plane block (painless 1st stage normal vaginal delivery) it depends on the hypnosis that the erector spinae plane block blocks the visceral pain also by affecting the ventral rami, dorsal rami and rami communicants.

Clinical Investigation of ENO/TEO/OTO Pacing System Under MRI Environment

Bradycardia

The interest of the CAPRI study is to confirm the safety and the efficacy of the ENO/TEO/OTO pacing system when used under 1.5 or 3 Tesla MRI environment and in accordance with the MRI solutions guideline.

Genetic Determinants of Hemodynamic Response to Esmolol

Decrease in Heart Rate Below Baseline Value

Beta 1 Adrenergic antagonists (beta blockers) have major role in the treatment of CHF, IHD and hypertension. However, there is large interindividual variability in the response to beta blockers. The hypothesis underlying this study is that genetic differences between individuals will determine the individual response to esmolol, a betablocker that is administered intravenously. Esmolol will be administered intravenously to healthy volunteers, and the effects on heart rate and blood pressure will be monitored. In addition, we will measure plasma renin activity and plasma levels of norepinephrine.

Oculocardiac Reflex Brain Wave Monitor

BradycardiaStrabismus

Oculocardiac reflex during routine strabismus surgery was prospectively observed in association with routine brain wave monitoring. Providence Hospital institutional review board (IRB) approved this observational study without need for consent.

Intubation-induced Decrease in Heart Rate as an Indicator for Intraoperative Bradycardia

Tracheal IntubationAirway Management1 more

This prospective observational study aims to determine, if an tracheal intubation-related decrease in heart rate is associated with intraoperative reflex bradycardia in patients undergoing microlaryngoscopy (MLS) in general anesthesia.

Atropine Versus no Atropine for Neonatal Rapid Sequence Intubation

BradycardiaHypoxemia

The purpose of this study is to compare heart rate in infants who receive atropine as a part of their medication before intubation to those who do not. To be able to find out , we need to divided babies into 2 groups; group 1 : receives atropine + sedation + muscle relaxant group 2 : receives water or saline ( placebo group) + sedation + muscle relaxant Then we need to compare heart rate during intubation and duration of intubation between the 2 groups.

Predictive Factors of a Successful Implant of the CapsureFix MRI Model 5086

Bradyarrhythmia

Pacing leads are key elements of a pacing system as their proper functioning is one of the major factors affecting the long term performance of the whole system. Success of a pacing lead implant can be defined considering 3 items: ease of lead implant, lead stability and lead electrical performances. These factors may be related to the physician experience (global implant experience, experience with a given lead), to the implant procedure (lead access, lead position, implant time, scopy time) to the lead (handling and mechanical characteristics) and to the patient (ischemic history). Even though implant success rate is quite high with currently available leads, the weight of the different factors influencing success has never been studied systematically. The objective of the current study is then to define the predictive factors of an implant success with the CapsureFix MRI model 5086. This lead has been selected because it has been available for a short period, so the investigators have a limited experience of it and it has a unique design which makes it conditionally safe in an MRI environment and which may be associated with specific handling characteristics.
