Pilot Study of Model Based Iterative Reconstruction Using 64-Slice

This study is being performed to confirm that the new technique, Model-Based Iterative Reconstruction (MBIR) with reduced radiation dose can deliver equivalent image quality for CT scans compared to current techniques (Filtered Back Projection with Adaptive Statistical Iterative Reconstruction (FBP with ASiR) and also to demonstrate that MBIR can improve general image quality characteristics at equivalent radiation dose levels.

Platelet Administration To Patients With Traumatic Brain Injury Who Were Treated With Aspirin

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a devastating disease with high morbidity and mortality. Although not fully proved, it is commonly accepted that the morbidity and mortality and proportional to the extent of intracranial bleeds (i.e. - larger hemorrhages cause more injury than smaller ones). Aspirin is a commonly used antiaggregate drug that interferes with the clotting system. The antiaggregate effect may be neutralized by administration of platelets. Thus, potentially, patients receiving Aspirin and undergoing TBI, are at a higher risk for increasing an intracranial bleed. In this prospective study, the investigators randomize patients receiving aspirin that have a traumatic intracranial bleed to two groups, one - that will receive platelets, and the other that will not receive platelets. The primary end point of the study is to evaluate the effect of platelet administration of the enlargement of traumatic intracranial bleeds, and try and evaluate any clinical outcome differences between the two groups.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of transcranial stimulation for upper limb training of patients with sequelae from an intracranial hemorrhage. Patients receive five days of upper limb occupational therapy training in combination with real or sham stimulation. Patients complete the Jebsen Taylor Hand Function Test before, after and 7 days later. The intervention takes place at patients' home address.

To diagnose bleeding inside the head, children need to have a CT Scan or MRI of their heads. Not all doctors order these though, especially when there is no history of injury or when children don't look too sick. Unfortunately, this means that some children's bleeding doesn't get diagnosed as early as it could. This study wants to find a way to detect bleeding inside the head without using a CT scan or MRI.

The investigators prospectively want to use the Infrascanner in patients with ischemic stroke, patients with brain surgery, patients with brain tumors, patients with intracranial hemorrhage and patients with a normal CT scan of the brain as part of a diagnostic work-up after head trauma or headache to determine to positive and negative predictive value of the Infrascanner in these different settings.

Traumatic acute subdural haematomas (ASDHs) are common pathological entity in neurosurgical practice . The frequency of (ASDHs) has been proposed as approximately 10-20% of patients admitted with traumatic brain injury(TBI) .Approximately two -thirds of patient with TBI undergoing emergency cranial surgery have an acute subdural haematoma evacuated . Two common causes of traumatic ASDH: accumulation of blood around parenchymal laceration , usually frontal and temporal lobes and there is usually severe underlying brain injury .The second cause is surface or bridging vessel torn from cerebral acceleration - deceleration during violent head motion .

Application of Amyloid PET in Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy

In this project, we will try to enhance the diagnostic potentials of amyloid PET in CAA by combination of dynamic amyloid PET with MRI SWI and MR perfusion images. We will also try to investigate the roles of CAA in patients with drug-related ICH and validate the accuracy of clinical CAA diagnostic criteria. In addition, we will try to study the characteristics of long-term progression of amyloid deposition in CAA patients. This project will enroll 100 patients with ICH, 30 patients with AD, and 30 control subjects. Each patient will receive the above image studies, followed by data analysis and comparison.
