A Study of the Safety and Effectiveness of Infliximab (Remicade) in Patients With Pancreatic Cancer...
CachexiaPancreatic NeoplasmsThe purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of infliximab, the active ingredient in Remicade, for the treatment of cachexia in pancreatic cancer patients who are receiving chemotherapy with gemcitabine.
Randomized Placebo-Controlled Study of Aerobic Exercise and Resistance Training Plus Megestrol Acetate...
Acquired Immunodeficiency SyndromeHIV Wasting Syndrome1 moreOBJECTIVES: I. Evaluate the effect of aerobic exercise and progressive resistance plus megestrol acetate on lean body mass of patients with human immunodeficiency virus-related weight loss (HIV-wasting). II. Evaluate whether exercise acutely alters immune function. III. Evaluate whether long-term exercise improves immunocompetence. IV. Evaluate the accuracy of multifrequency bioelectrical impedance spectral analysis in measuring body composition. V. Assess the impact of these therapies on quality of life. VI. Evaluate the effect of these therapies on the balance of energy intake and energy expenditure.
AIDS Wasting in Women: Anabolic Effects of Testosterone
AIDS Wasting SyndromeThe study is a 6 month, placebo-controlled study of transdermal testosterone for women with HIV-associated weight loss. Women with AIDS wasting have been found to have low testosterone levels. This study is designed to test the efficacy of physiologic testosterone dosing to improve weight, muscle mass and quality of life indices, including energy level, appetite and libido, in androgen deficient women with AIDS wasting. After 6 months, all women receive open label transdermal testosterone for an additional 6 months.
A Study to Evaluate High Protein Supplementation in HIV-Positive Patients With Stable Weight Loss...
HIV InfectionsHIV Wasting SyndromeThe purpose of this study is to determine whether a high-quality protein food supplement will help HIV-positive patients maintain, and possibly gain, muscle mass. Many HIV-positive patients lose weight that they are then unable to regain. This may be because patients are not eating enough protein or are not eating the right kinds of protein. The protein eaten in foods (such as meat, eggs, or beans) may not be able to make up for the amount of protein lost due to HIV infection. This study gives patients high-quality protein food supplements to help them maintain and/or gain weight.
Effects of WB-EMS and Dietetic Treatment on Cancer Patients
CancerCancer Cachexia3 moreThis study evaluates the effects of a 12-week whole-body electromyostimulation (WB-EMS) training combined with individualized nutritional support on body composition, muscle strength and function and quality of life of patients with malignant disease undergoing curative or palliative anti-cancer treatment
Pilot Clinical Trial of Repeated Doses of Macimorelin to Assess Safety and Efficacy in Patients...
Cancer CachexiaThe purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of repeated oral administration of macimorelin at different doses daily for 1 week for the treatment of cancer cachexia.
Effect of Anti-inflammatory Diet on Inflammatory, Oxidative and Nutritional Markers in Hemodialysis...
InflammationMalnutrition3 moreThe purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of especial diet therapy "Anti-inflammatory Diet" on inflammatory, oxidative stress, and nutritional markers in the context of protein-energy wasting syndrome(PEW) in hemodialysis patients.
Study to Evaluate the Safety and Efficacy of 13 Weeks of the Selective Androgen Receptor Modulator...
CachexiaImpaired physical function and muscle dysfunction are a major consequence of COPD, which may be associated with increased mortality, poor quality of life and increased health care use. This is a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, parallel group study to evaluate the safety and tolerability of GSK2881078, an SARM over 13 weeks of dosing in older male subjects and post-menopausal female subjects with COPD and muscle weakness. This study will also assess the effect of GSK2881078 on physical strength and function after 13 weeks of treatment. Approximately 100 subjects with COPD and muscle weakness will be randomized into two cohorts of 50 male subjects and 50 female subjects. Within each cohort, subjects will be randomized to receive GSK2881078 or placebo in a ratio of 1:1. All subjects will participate in a standardized home exercise program, which will consist of daily walking, along with several resistance or weight-bearing exercises, such as bicep curls, upright rows, step ups and a sit-to-stand maneuver. The study will consist of a screening/Baseline period of up to 30 days, a 13-week treatment period and a post-treatment follow-up period of 6 weeks.
A Study to Evaluate the Efficacy and Safety of Anamorelin HCl for the Treatment of Malignancy Associated...
Cachexia; CancerNon Small Cell Lung CancerMulticenter, randomized, double-blind, parallel-group, placebo-controlled study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of anamorelin HCl. Approximately 316 patients with advanced NSCLC with cachexia will be randomized 1:1 to anamorelin HCl 100 mg or placebo, taken orally once daily (QD) for a total of 24 weeks. Patients will be instructed to take the study drug at least 1 hour before their first meal of the day
A Pilot Study of Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) in Patients With Cancer Cachexia
Cancer CachexiaThe data collected through this pilot study will allow us to increase our understanding of cancer cachexia and the effect of Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) on cancer cachexia. Our long-term goal is to improve nutritional treatment and reduce illness in the cancer patient population.
