Treatment of Common Bile Duct Stones

Common Bile Duct Stone

ABSTRACT Introduction: Common bile duct (CBD) stone is a common clinical situation, especially in Asia area. Laparotomy and laparoscopic surgical procedure are often used for treatment. This study compares outcomes of different surgical procedures treating for the disease. Methods/design: This is a prospective, randomized, controlled multicenter trial with three treatment arms. One group underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) + laparoscopic CBD exploration (LCBDE) + intraoperative endoscopic nasobiliary drainage ENBD + primary closure of CBD. The other underwent preoperative endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and subsequent LC and the third arm underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) + laparoscopic CBD exploration (LCBDE) + primary closure of CBD. The duration of the entire trial is two years including prearrangement, follow-up and analyses. Discussion: Despite the fact plenty evidences provided by meta-analyses suggests that these approaches would appear comparable. It is hopeful to fully address which would be the better approach with this RCT design.

The purpose of this study to investigate attitude, oral health literacy and psychological factors in order to evaluate if these factors are important for oral health in adults. The hypotheses are: Multiple interactive demographic, and social and psychological factors contribute to the level of attitude and oral health literacy. There is an association between the level of oral health literacy and oral health status A structured intervention based on oral health literacy can change the attitude and improve the oral health status. Background knowledge has influence on attitude and oral health literacy Individuals with positive attitude towards dental health and dentist are attentive towards their oral health.

In order to secure fewer complications in ureteroscopic operations the pharmacological agent isoproterenol is tested on pigs and human to determine its potential of lowering intrarenal pressure.

Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotriptor Indicated for Fragmenting Urinary Stones in the Kidney

Kidney Stones

A total of 20 subjects presenting with urinary stone(s) in the kidney or ureter will be treated with an extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy device to fragment the stones. Subjects will be followed for 14 days. If at the 14 day follow-up visit the subject continues to present with a stone size 4 mm or greater will have an option of retreatment or other intervention. If the subject consents to be retreated at this time, this subject will be followed up for another 14 days.
