ConMed Beamer Study

Gastrointestinal NeoplasmsAchalasia1 more

This is a prospective registry of all patients who endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), per-oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) and gastric per-oral endoscopic myotomy (G-POEM) using ConMed Electrosurgical unit for submucosal Dissection at Baylor St Luke's Medical Center. Collected information includes; procedure technical success rate, duration, periprocedural complications and ease of use.

Gastrointestinal Cancers - StomachGastrointestinal Cancers - Colorectal3 more

This multicenter retrospectively observational cohort study was conducted on participants with histologically confirmed gastric and colorectal cancer who underwent radical surgery in 11 medical centers in China from August 1, 2015, to June 31, 2018. Baseline clinicopathologic data and nutritional status assessments including Nutrition Risk Screening 2002 (NRS 2002) score and Patient-generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA) rating were collected. Variables will be screened using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression model and Cox regression analysis. Internal and external validations will be performed via the receiver operating curve (ROC), the area under the curve (AUC), the concordance index (C-index), calibration plots, decision curve analysis (DCA), and Five folds cross-validation by 200 times.

Utility of OverStitch Sx After ESD

Gastrointestinal Neoplasms

This study is a prospective study where the investigators will make a database of all the patients who have received this procedure and will document various outcomes (i.e. number of sutures used, number of clips (if used), time required to close, complications/ issues). No changes will be done to the participant's procedure and the participants are asked to consent for the use of the participant's data in our database. The participants are being asked to be in this research study because the participants have been scheduled to undergo an ESD procedure at Baylor St. Luke Medical Center and will most likely require clipping and/or suturing following intervention. This study is important because this is a relatively new procedure; although it is a part of the participant's standard of care, it is not done in many hospitals. The investigators would like to document the outcomes and results of such procedures to continuously improve our standard of care.

Multi-modality Imaging in Peritoneal Carcinomatosis of Colorectal Origin

Peritoneal CarcinomatosisColorectal Cancer3 more

Intraoperative tumor localization and resection can be enhanced using intraoperative fluorescence imaging and radiodetection. Labetuzumab specifically recognizes CEA which is is expressed on > 95% of colorectal cancers.. Therefore Indium-111-DOTA-labetuzumab-IRDye800CW is a perfect dual-labeled antibody for dual-modality image-guided surgery in peritoneal carcinomatosis of colorectal cancer.

Person-Centered Oncology Care and Choices (P-COCC): Piloting and Initial Randomized Testing of a...

Advanced Gastrointestinal Cancer

This study is being done to get individuals' feedback on advanced care planning and decision making. This study is divided into two parts (Part 1 and Part 2). The purpose of Part 1 is to survey people to find out what is important to people with advanced cancer (again, their values, such as their goals, concerns and sources of support). This has never been done before in the way the investigators are doing it, and that is why this is called a "pilot" study, which is where a new method or treatment is being created and evaluated. The purpose of Part 2 is to see if combining a medical options video with a short interview about values helps people with how they feel about their medical situation, and what they know about their medical options for their medical situation.

A Feasibility Trial of Geriatric Assessment and Management for Older Cancer Patients

Breast CancerGastrointestinal Cancer1 more

The purpose of this study is to determine the feasibility of implementing a randomized controlled study of the intervention (Geriatric Assessment followed by an integrated care plan carried out by the multidisciplinary geriatric oncology team) designed to maintain/improve quality of life and functional status in older adults with advanced gastrointestinal, genitourinary or breast cancer referred for first line chemotherapy. Secondarily, the study will investigate the impact of the Geriatric Assessment on the cancer treatment decision of the cancer specialist.

Electronic Patient Reported Symptom Assessment

Gynecologic CancerBreast Cancer2 more

The purpose of this study is to assess whether using computerized screening questions can improve how well we manage symptoms related to cancer and cancer treatments. Advance care planning is a process in which teams of experts assist in with treatment plans, managing pain and other symptoms, emotional issues, and end of life issues. With advances in technology, it is now possible to get the patient's feedback directly and more often. It is thought that repeated questionnaires completed by the patient will provide a better and more accurate measure of the patient's needs and experiences but this has not been tested. This study is designed to learn if using a computerized assessment repeatedly is better than standard planning techniques.

Feasibility of Systematic Handgrip Strength (HGS) Testing and Short-term Changes in Muscle Strength...

Handgrip Strength TestSarcopenia3 more

Sarcopenia is defined as a loss in skeletal muscle mass and function (strength and/or performance). There is a high prevalence in elderly and in patients with cancer. Several mechanisms are known to explain sarcopenia (inflammation, neurodegenerative process, hormonal disorders, lack of exercise, malnutrition). The consequences were analysed in several studies where sarcopenia appeared to be an independent factor of mortality, and associated with cancer-related fatigue, nosocomial infections, cardio-vascular diseases, and chemotherapy toxicities. Diagnosis is based on the measure of the muscle mass performing an abdominal computed-tomography (CT) scan, and on the measure of the muscle strength using the handgrip test with a "Jamar®" hydraulic hand dynamometer. CT scan is more invasive and less easy to reach than handgrip test. This test is used to be performing in elderly but not in cancer patients having chemotherapy. Present prospective study explored the feasibility of systematic handgrip strength testing and short-term changes in muscle strength in digestive cancer patients treated by chemotherapy.
