Dual-Energy CT in Patients With Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinomas

Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma

The purpose of this study is to utilize dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) to investigate changes in tumor iodine concentration in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC). Dual-energy computerized tomography could easily replace a standard CT neck with the added benefit of providing functional information that would only be possible with advanced computerized tomography perfusion, magnetic resonance diffusion (MRI) or positron emission tomography (PET) imaging techniques.

Reflectance Confocal Microscopy of Wounds During Moh's Surgery: Feasibility Testing of a Mosaicing...

Basal Cell CarcinomaSquamous Cell Carcinoma

The purpose of this study is to evaluate a new instrument that shines light and takes digital pictures of skin. The goal is to develop a technique that may enable fast and accurate assessment of surgical margins in the excision of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) or squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). The investigators will evaluate the pictures obtained by the confocal microscope to determine whether this technique may be useful in the future for helping Mohs surgeons remove cancers. In the future, patients may benefit with shorter surgery and improved care.

Antibacterial Properties of Silicon Incorporated With Quaternary Ammonium Polyethylenimine Nanoparticles...

Carcinoma of Head and Neck

The aim of this study is to evaluate the antibacterial activity of crosslinked quaternary ammonium polyethylenimine (PEI) nanoparticles incorporated at 1-2% w/w in a commercial soft liner material when compared to the commercial soft liner material. The investigators' results in vitro showed a significant delay in bacterial growth. Therefore, the investigators assume to have the same delay in vivo- on patients.

Tumor Growth Factors in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Malignant cells frequently produce many tumor growth factors to autocidal or endocrinal proliferate growth, metastasis,or angiogenesis about tumor cells. By studying tumor growth factors in hepatocellular carcinoma, one may know the tumor behavior, its relationship with clinical manifestation or invasion, and could be used as diagnostic or prognostic tools. This study aims to study the relationship between tumor growth factors in HCC ant its clinical relevance.

Anatomical Resection of the Liver for Hepatocellular Carcinoma: a New Ultrasound Guided Approach...

Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Anatomical resection is the gold standard approach for liver resection in patients with HCC. A new method for that by means of IOUS-guided finger compression has been devised.

Selective Omission of Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in Mastectomy for Ductal Carcinoma in Situ: Identifying...

Ductal Carcinoma in Situ

This study aimed to assess the prevalence of upgrade to invasive breast cancer and axillary lymph node metastasis in patients who were diagnosed with DCIS on biopsy and subsequently underwent mastectomy with axillary surgery to establish the need for SLNB. Furthermore, we explored the clinicopathologic features related to the upgrade to invasive breast cancer and axillary lymph node metastasis.

Identification of Image Phenotypes to Predict Recurrence After Resection of Hepatocellular Carcinoma...

CT Scans Prior to Surgery With a Least 2 Years of Follow-up

Tumor recurrence, which occurs in 70% of patients with HCC within 5 years after hepatic resection, is a major cause of post-resection-death. This recurrence can be true recurrence (intrahepatic metastases), which occurs sooner than 2 years later, or it can be due to the development of de-novo tumors at least 2 years later. Despite this high rate of tumor recurrence, no anti-recurrence adjuvant therapies are currently recommended. Imaging phenomics is the systematic, large scale extraction of imaging features for the characterization and classification of disease phenotypes. Combining imaging and tissue phenomics could be a solution to predict HCC recurrence. With the emergence of molecular therapies and immunotherapies, identifying patients with HCC at high risk of post-resection recurrence would help determine additional therapeutic and management strategies in clinical practice.
