Screening for Inherited Heart Disease

Heart DiseaseHypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

Genetically inherited heart diseases like hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) are conditions affecting the heart passed on to family members by abnormalities in genetic information. These conditions are responsible for many heart related deaths and illnesses. Presently, there are several research studies being conducted in order to improve the understanding of disease processes and symptoms associated with genetically inherited heart diseases. This study is designed to determine the eligibility of patients diagnosed with or suspected to have inherited heart disease to participate in these research studies.

Outpatient Evaluation of Patients With Known or Suspected Heart Disease

Heart Disease

This study is designed to screen patients with heart diseases who may qualify to participate in other research studies being conducted by the Cardiology Branch of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). Patients participating in this research study will be seen on an outpatient basis and undergo a general medical evaluation, including blood tests, urine, examination, chest x-ray and electrocardiogram (EKG). In addition, patients may be asked to have an echocardiogram (ultrasound scan of the heart) and to perform an exercise stress test. Patients participating in this study will not receive any investigational treatments.

Appropriateness of Coronary Angioplasty in PAtients With isCHEmic Heart Disease

Non ST Elevation Acute Coronary SyndromesStable Coronary Syndromes2 more

An observational, retrospective, multicenter, blinded adjudication study to evaluate the clinical appropriateness of Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) indication and execution in patients with stable Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) and in patients with acute coronary syndrome without ST-segment elevation (NSTE-ACS) (ratio 4:1). Half of the included patients will be diabetic. Also the implementation of selected, key guideline recommendations will be examined. At least 400 patients will be retrospectively selected among 22 Catheterization Laboratories in Italy in the region of Lombardia and Veneto. This study will be conducted in compliance with Good Clinical Practices (GCP) including the Declaration of Helsinki and all applicable regulatory requirements.

Effect of Antithrombotic Treatment in Patients With Both Coronary Heart Disease and Atrial Fibrillation...

Atrial FibrillationCoronary Heart Disease

The optimal antithrombotic treatment for Coronary Heart disease (CHD) patients combined with Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is unresolved at present. Although the European and American guidelines have given a hand for us, there is absence of real-world data on the safety and efficacy of antithrombotic therapy in Asian populations. Only a few clinical trials are available to guide difficult decision on antithrombotic therapy in patients with combined AF and CHD,the investigators highlight the need for the rapid development of clinical trials to close the large gaps in evidence. This research aims to know the real-world use of antithrombotic treatment and clinical prognosis in Coronary Heart Disease patients complicated with Atrial Fibrillation.

Impact of Positive End-expiratory Pressure on Hepatic Venous Flow

Valvular Heart Disease

The purpose of this study is to determine the difference in the impact of moderate positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) on hepatic venous flow Doppler in patients undergoing cardiac surgery: conventional versus protective ventilation strategy The possible changes in forward and backward flows (Doppler profiles) of hepatic venous flow at different degrees of PEEP in conventional and protective ventilation strategies are analyzed by using intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) in patients undergoing cardiac surgery .

Natural History of Carotid Plaque as Determined by 3D Ultrasound

Atherosclerotic DiseasePlaque4 more

This proposed follow-up study aims to recruit participants from the original BioImage cohort for a one-time follow-up examination. The repeat ultrasound scan of the carotid arteries will provide information on the natural history of carotid atherosclerosis and factors that contribute to plaque progression. Renewal of the HIPAA authorization will also be sought for 5 years to continue to monitor claims and other information for major cardiovascular events, other outcomes and healthcare utilization.

Physical Capacity and Activity in Children With Congenital Heart Disease

Heart DefectsCongenital1 more

Congenital malformations correspond to defects in organ morphogenesis identifiable at birth or intrauterine life, affecting 2-3% of births. Inside of these malformations, Congenital Heart Disease corresponds, in particular, to structural defects of the heart or major blood vessels thereof may or may not be associated with other types of syndromes. The resolution is usually surgical. Also, these patients present a decrease in physical fitness, psychological imbalance, lower quality of life and risk significant morbidity and mortality from respiratory infections among other problems. This can have severe consequences for health in the medium and long term. The habits acquired during childhood and adolescence are determinant for the adult life, being relevant levels of activity and physical condition, especially in children with pathologies. In this way, it is vital to know from childhood parameters that indicate the baseline state of these patients according to the levels of physical activity, exercise capacity, nutritional status and quality of life. These will be key indicators to take into account in the future, to adapt rehabilitation plans that will reduce the effects of their condition. The objective of this protocol is To characterize the levels of Activity, and Physical Capacity of children with congenital heart disease regularly treated at the Cardiovascular Center of Dr. Luis Hospital Calvo Mackenna, compared to healthy children matched by age and sex.

E_Stethoscope: Portable Digital Auscultation Study on Hypertensive/Hypertensive Heart Disease Patients...

HypertensionHypertensive Heart Disease

Hypertensive heart disease (HHD) is a heart condition that is caused by chronic exposure to high blood pressure. In patients with HHD, abnormalities in the way heart muscle relaxes and how heart chambers passively fill with blood (diastolic dysfunction) can occur that may be detected on echocardiography (echo), which is a standard clinical method to examine heart structure and function using reflected sound waves. Investigators propose to develop a digital auscultation system or electronic stethoscope based on wireless sensor node technique. Investigators hypothesize that the heart sounds measurements detected by electronic stethoscope can be used to detect heart diastolic dysfunction in HHD .
