CataractThis controlled, randomized, double blind, multicenter study will be carried out to demonstrate that the topical ophthalmic nanoemulsion of difluprednate 0.05% (Tolf®, Poen Laboratories), has a high anti-inflammatory efficacy, which would allow it to be administered after cataract surgery 1 drop, twice a day , starting the day before surgery and continuing for 14 days and 1 drop, once a day for the following 2 weeks, achieving an adequate anti-inflammatory activity, with the benefit of reducing the toxicity on the ocular surface, improving the dosage and adherence to treatment. The follow-up time will be 28 days and the outcome measures will be evaluated in a baseline (time 0), on day 1, on day 4 and on day 28 after surgery. The active control will be prednisolone acetate 1% + phenylephrine hydrochloride 0.12% topical ophthalmic suspension (Prednefrin® Forte, Allergan Argentina) given 1 drop, 4 times a days and 1 drop, twice a day for the next 2 weeks. Corneal thickness, central macula thickness, endothelial cell count, intraocular pressure, visual acuity, anterior chamber clearance and lacrimal film recovery will be evaluated.

CataractThe investigators seek to assess the effect of pre-operative and continued post-operative corticosteroid use on pain, patient preference, visual outcomes, and change in objective quantifiable biological parameters in patients undergoing bilateral cataract surgery with premium intraocular lens implantation with or without baseline ocular surface disease. Patient's first eye scheduled for surgery will receive an intracanalicular insertion of DEXTENZA (dexamethasone release profile of QID, TID, BID, QD, over 30 days; study eye). The fellow-eye will receive topical prednisolone acetate 1% (tapering schedule of QID, TID, BID, QD over 30 days). The fellow-eye design in n=30 patients (60 eyes) allows for balance in patient baseline demographic and systemic characteristics.

CataractIntraocular PressureThis study aims to evaluate the effect of fixed brinzolamide-brimonidine combination on intaocular pressure after uncomplicated phacoemulsification surgery. Patients scheduled for phacoemulsification will be randomly assigned to 1 of 2 groups. The treatment group will receive 1 drop of brimonidine-brinzolamide fixed combination immediately after surgery, and the control group will receive no treatment. The IOP will be measured preoperatively and at 6, 12, and 24 hours postoperatively.

Senile CataractCataractDespite the advantages already demonstrated by FLACS, these surgeries still require ultrasonic devices for fragmentation of the lens. The ultrasonic energy used during phacoemulsification may induce complications such as reduction of endothelial cells and corneal edema. In this sense, it would be beneficial to develop surgical techniques that eliminate the need for ultrasound. The group of surgeons of Alfredo Tranjan Ophthalmic Center, recently developed a surgical technique of cataract that optimizes the use of the laser, eliminating the need for ultrasound during the surgical procedure. Thus, the crystalline fragmentation process does not involve ultrasound being performed by the laser itself. It is expected that this procedure will reduce the complexity of cataract surgery, and be safer in terms of potential corneal lesions. The present study intends to evaluate the benefit and safety of FLACS without use of ultrasound (USFREE), compared to traditional phacoemulsification surgery using ultrasound in patients with senile cataract. In this sense, it is intended to primarily compare the volume of balanced saline solution (BSS) between surgeries.
