Comparison of Two Phacoemulsification-methods: EasyTip 2.2mm vs. Infusion Assisted EasyTip 2.2mm...
CataractsThe aim of this study was to compare the intraoperative efficiency, safety and postoperative outcomes of cataract surgery with two different "high-fluidic" settings.
Ocular Biodistribution Study for Topically Applied ESBA105
CataractThe purpose of this study is to determine whether ESBA105, a single-chain (scFv) antibody against TNF-alpha, efficiently penetrates into the anterior chamber and the vitreous body upon topical administration to the eye.
Efficacy of Subtenon's Block With Olive Tipped Cannula
CataractThe purpose of this study is to compare the efficacy of olive tip cannula to the standard Steven's cannula in performing subtenon's anesthesia for patients undergoing cataract surgery.
China OLIMPICS: China Ophthalmic Learning and Improvement Initiative in Cataract Surgery Trial
CataractThis is a prospective, investigator-masked randomised controlled education-intervention trial of intense simulation-based surgical education plus conventional training versus a current six-week standard training course. The aim is to investigate whether the addition of simulation-based surgical education to standard training improves competence and surgical outcomes. All participants in the study will receive the educational intervention of the six-week Orbis-COS course. The intervention groups will receive this training and an additional element of learning and sustained deliberate practice using model eyes and simulation.
Comparison Between Oral and Enema of Chloral Hydrate
Congenital CataractTo compare the clinical sedative effect and safety using 10% chloral hydrate during ophthalmic examinations for oral vs enema group. The patients were randomly divided into two groups (oral group and enema group) using a computer random number generator with a 1:1 allocation (simple randomization, odd number for oral group and even number for enema group).
Protection of Corneal Epithelium Using Chitosan-N-acetylcysteine Eye Drops During and/or After Cataract...
Eye DiseasesThe aim of this study is to assess if treatment with Lacrimera® eye drops (Croma-Pharma GbmH, Leobendorf, Austria) during and/ or after cataract surgery has a positive effect on the ocular surface compared to control group.
Additional Long-Term Follow-up for Subjects Implanted With a CyPass® Micro-Stent
Primary Open Angle GlaucomaCataractThe purpose of this study is to assess long-term (10 years post-CyPass implantation) status of the corneal endothelium in subjects who were implanted with the CyPass Micro-Stent in the COMPASS trial.
Dexmedetomidine vs. Remifentanil Undergoing Cataract Surgery in Geriatrics
GeriatricsOutpatients1 moreDexmedetomidine is an α2-adrenergic receptor agonist used for its sympatholytic effect, providing sedation, analgesia, and cardiovascular stabilization in the perioperative period. Remifentanil is a µ opioid agonist with a rapid onset and short duration of action, which is degraded by plasma esterase in tissues. Investigators aimed to compare the effects of dexmedetomidine and remifentanil infusions on sedation quality, side effects, and surgeon's satisfaction in geriatric outpatients who underwent cataract surgery.
Tunnel Construction Course Pilot Assessment of Simulation-based Training Effectiveness
CataractTCC-PASTE is a randomised controlled trial comparing a simulation based training curriculum with standard training for ophthalmology residents learning to perform tunnel construction in manual small incision cataract surgery. After obtaining informed consent, participating trainees will be randomly assigned to learn to perform tunnel construction either through the simulation based curriculum or through the standard curriculum at their institute. Trainees assigned to simulation will learn through studying an eBook, participating in training sessions supported by repeated practice on a virtual reality simulator, and supervised training in live surgery to facilitate transfer of skill acquired in simulation to the operating room. To determine the effect of simulation based training, we will assess the number of errors trainees perform in the initial part of their intraoperative learning curve.
IOP and Ocular Biometrics Changes After Phacoemulsification in Glaucoma Patients and Controls
GlaucomaCataractEffect of phacoemulsification on intraocular pressure has been studied with variable results.Furthermore, effect of phacoemulsification on ocular biometrics including anterior chamber depth and angle opening distance has also been studied. In our study we aim at establishing a quantitative relationship between preoperative ocular biometrics and postoperative intraocular pressure change and comparing this relationship in glaucomatous and non-glaucomatous eyes.
