Is Physical Activity, Obesity, and Ethnicity Associated With the Tethering and Migration of Pro-inflammatory...
Physical ActivityCentral Obesity1 moreBeing south Asian or centrally obese may be associated with an increased risk of inflammation. The investigators are seeking to investigate whether this is the case by recruiting white European and south Asian men who are lean or have central obesity. Further, the investigators wish to investigate whether physical activity influences the associations.
Environmental Temperature and Human White Adipose Tissue
ObesityObesity2 moreObesity is characterized by excessive white adipose tissue (WAT) that increases risk for disease. About 700 million adults are obese worldwide, designating the need of reducing excessive WAT in humans and subsequently the risk for disease. For this reason, previous research focused on the thermogenic capacity of white adipocytes in response to cold exposure. The investigators aimed to identify whether human WAT thermogenic activation could alter energy homeostasis and subsequently total body weight. The human WAT thermogenic capacity was assessed via Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography (PET/CT) examination.
Central Obesity and Cancer Prevention for Chinese American Women
ObesityAbdominal1 moreThis project examines the feasibility of a smartphone-based intervention to reduce obesity and breast cancer risk among Chinese American women in San Francisco. The proposed intervention is to use the mobile application and an activity tracker device to promote a healthier lifestyle and physical activity. Ultimately, the findings will advance the NIH mission of enhancing health promotion and disease prevention.
The Association Between Microbiota, Endotoxaemia and the Host Obesity/ Insulin Resistance (MiPOOP...
Central ObesityThe objectives of this study are to examine the effects of ethnicity, central obesity and dietary components, on the human gut microbiome. The investigators hypothesize that these factors have an influence on the composition of the gut microbiome. Healthy subjects (n=35) provided stool samples for gut microbiome profiling using 16S rRNA sequencing and completed a dietary questionnaire. The serum samples were assayed for a panel of inflammatory cytokines. Their associations with central obesity were examined.
Role of the Renin Angiotensin Aldosterone System in the Mechanisms of Transition to Heart Failure...
ObesityAbdominalR2C2 study has shown that abdominal obesity is associated with a cardiac and vascular remodelling in healthy volunteers. This remodelling is correlated with renin-angiotensin aldosterone system (RAAS) activation and/or systemic fibrosis. R2C2 II study is designed to confirm the hypothesis that RAAS is associated with an early remodelling and implicated in the transition to cardiac failure in abdominal obesity.
Abdominal Circumference and Cardiorespiratory Repercussions in Patients Submitted to Physical Therapy...
ObesityAbdominal1 moreThe purpose of this study is to determine whether the hospitalized patients with increased waist circumference exhibit cardiorespiratory alterations after chest physical therapy.
CiNPT for Abdominoplasties in Post-bariatric Patients Study
ObesityMorbid25 moreThe overarching goal of this research is to assess whether the post-operative use of closed-incision Negative Pressure Therapy (ciNPT) accelerates healing of surgical wounds, improves surgical outcomes, and reduces the rate of local complications in high-risk, obese, post-bariatric patients undergoing abdominal body-contouring procedures (abdominal panniculectomy or "abdominoplasty") compared to standard wound care. The investigators postulate that ciNPT can cost-effectively improve outcomes and standard of post-surgical care in this specific category of patients. This hypothesis will be tested through a prospective, interventional, case-control, randomized clinical trial.
Nutritional Counseling to Change Eating Behavior, Metabolism and Anthropometry in Adults With Abdominal...
ObesityAbdominalThis study evaluates the impact of changes in eating behavior through nutritional counseling, after nine months of intervention, on body composition and metabolism in adult workers with abdominal obesity
Moxibustion Combined With Characteristic Lifestyle Intervention of Traditional Chinese Medicine...
ObesityThis study will investigate whether the combination of moxibustion and characteristic lifestyle intervention of TCM can alleviate the clinical symptoms and improve quality of life and mental health in patients with abdominal obesity. The results are expected to provide clinical evidence for the application of the combination of moxibustion and characteristic lifestyle intervention of TCM in patients with abdominal obesity.
The Effects of Water-only Fasting and Refeeding on Body Composition
Visceral ObesityInsulin ResistanceThis observational pilot study will assess the effects of water-only fasting on body composition and insulin resistance
