OnabotulinumtoxinA for the Treatment of New Daily Persistent Headache: an Open Label Study

New Daily Persistent Headache

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of BOTOX® (OnabotulinumtoxinA) on the number of headache days in patients with New Daily Persistent Headache (NDPH). NDPH is a benign form of chronic daily headache that comes in two forms: one that resolves on its own after months to years, or one that is difficult to treat and does not respond to preventive or abortive medications. Some patients experience migrainous features such as nausea, vomiting, photophobia, or phonophobia. BOTOX®, a treatment approved for chronic migraine, will be injected into specific muscles of the head and neck area by your study doctor, to evaluate its effectiveness in reducing or relieving NDPH days or severity. BOTOX has not been approved for NDPH and this is the first time it will be used for treatment of NDPH. All participants in this study will only receive BOTOX® and no other study drug.

Binocular DysfunctionVertical Heterophoria3 more

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate whether, in patients diagnosed with Vertical Heterophoria, the symptoms of dizziness, headache and / or anxiety are reduced or eliminated when a kind of correction called vertical prism is added to the patient's normal eye glass prescription. The experiment will involve giving the patient two pairs of glasses (one pair containing the baseline prescription with vertical prism (Standard Treatment Glasses) and the other pair containing the baseline prescription but without vertical prism (Placebo Glasses)) to demonstrate which pair of glasses is most effective in reducing the symptoms of dizziness, headache and / or anxiety in these patients.

A Pilot Study of Demand Valve Oxygen Inhalation Therapy for Cluster Headache

Cluster Headache

Cluster headache is a disorder marked by frequent attacks of short-lasting, severe, unilateral head pain with associated autonomic symptoms. It is the most severe head pain syndrome known. Currently, the two most common treatments for cluster headaches are inhaled oxygen and injectable sumatriptan. These treatments do not work for all cluster headache patients, and patients who smoke may eventually develop contraindication to triptans. New treatment options are needed. An alternative method of oxygen delivery (as opposed to continuous flow) uses a demand valve that is controlled by respiration rate, allowing increased oxygen flow in response to increased demand. This system may be more efficacious at stopping a cluster headache attack than the currently prescribed oxygen delivery system. This study will compare the effectiveness of oxygen delivered via demand valve versus continuous high flow oxygen via non-rebreather face mask in the acute treatment of a cluster headache attack. All patients will treat one cluster headache with each of the 2 treatment methods.
