Children and adolescents with cerebral palsy may be trapped in a vicious circle of low physical fitness, early fatigue in daily activities, resulting in deconditioning and a further decrease in physical activity. From this perspective, establishing a healthy and active lifestyle during childhood is even more important for individuals with a disability, who are at higher risk for functional limitations and general fatigue in addition with developing secondary' conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and obesity. Furthermore, physical activity has a positive impact on quality of life, but it remains unknown which factors that influence high levels of habitual physical activity in children and adolescents with cerebral palsy. The present research project will investigate predictors of habitual physical activity in children and adolescents with cerebral palsy with the perspective of providing evidence on optimizing physical activity and consequently improved overall health.

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a non-progressive disturbance in the development of movement and posture that occurs in the prenatal or postnatal period, causing activity limitations. Most children and adolescents with CP experience limitations in their walking skills. Restrictions in the walking ability of children with CP are an important issue for both parents and healthcare professionals involved in their treatment. The evaluation of walking is of great importance in terms of determining the effectiveness of the physiotherapy program, shaping the program, planning orthopedic and surgical applications, and determining the effectiveness, especially in children with CP who have walking potential. In the literature, easy-to-use, valid and reliable observational gait analysis that can evaluate gait pathologies and clinical gait in children with CP are emphasized. These measurements are of great importance in clinical practice.The ability of backward walking gives the child a different task than normal, allowing the observation of body perception, trunk stability provided by anterior-posterior co-contractions, balance, correction and protective reactions.

Scapular Alignment and Upper Limb Function in Children With Cerebral Palsy

Purpose: To determine the effect of scapular alignment on upper limb function in hemiparetic children and to find relation between scapular alignment of the affected, less affected limb and the upper limb function in children with spastic hemiparesis Subjects: Forty children with spastic hemiparetic cerebral palsy, from both genders, were included in this study. They were selected from Outpatient Clinic of Faculty of Physical Therapy, Cairo University. The age of the selected children was ranging from 3 to 6 years old. Degree of spasticity is ranging from 1 to 1+ according to modified Ashworth scale. Methods: Forty children with spastic hemiparetic cerebral palsy were assessed for scapular alignment using Postural zone software and for upper limb function using pediatric arm function test.

Comparision Of The Effectiveness Of Physiotherapy Methods

A total of 28 patients who were followed-up in our clinic and received botulinum toxin injection of lower extremities in the last month were randomized to two groups in the study. Group 1 received conventional physiotherapy and Group 2 received robot-assisted gait training. The treatment period was 30 min/day, five sessions in a week, 15 sessions in total, for both groups. The study population was evaluated using range of joint motion evaluation chart, the Modified Ashworth Scale, The Gross Motor Function Classification System, The Berg Balance Scale, the functional independence measure for children, and the Edinburgh Visual Gait Score

Cerebral palsy (CP) is caused by a non-progressive injury in the developing brain, which leads to problems in functional mobility, posture, neuro musculoskeletal functions and gait. Around 75% of children with CP are ambulatory however they have gait problems such as excessive knee flexion, stiff knee, crouch gait or equinus which affects the quality of gait. When constructing an effective treatment plan in children with CP, a comprehensive assessment should be performed. One of the most essential assessments is gait analysis. Gait analysis is used in the quantitative assessment of gait disturbances providing functional diagnosis, assessment for treatment, planning, and monitoring of progress. Gait analysis aims to determine the factors leading to gait disturbances. To reach this aim, a large amount of quantitative data concerning the gait characteristics of a patient is analyzed. The assessment of these data can be performed via standardized clinical videos, recorded with numerical video cameras used in conjunction with optical 3D systems. The purpose of this study was to confirm the test-retest reliability of a commercially available body-worn sensor- G-Walk® sensor system-for spatiotemporal gait parameters in children with CP.

Cerebral Palsy (CP), is the most common cause of physical disability that begins in childhood and lasts throughout life, affecting 1 in 500 newborns, with an estimated prevalence of 17 million worldwide. Social isolation, economic conditions, interruption of treatments, etc. may cause physical, mental, behavioral and psychosocial changes in children with cerebral palsy. Discontinuing regular physiotherapy can worsen functional skills and cause complications in children with cerebral palsy. Our aim in this study is to investigate the sustainability of the treatments of children with cerebral palsy during the pandemic period, their physical and psychosocial effects, and the relationship between their parents' fear of covid-19.
