Application of 3D Scanner to Measure Physical Size in Patients With Severe Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral PalsySpastic

The aim of this study is to improve the manufacturing techniques of hip brace in preventing progressive hip displacement in patients with severe cerebral palsy, through the measurement of patient's physical size using a 3D scanner.

Validity and Reliability of The Turkish Version of The Kidscreen-27

Cerebral Palsy

Functional impairment of the upper extremities can impair the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of persons with Cerebral Palsy CP. Health-related quality of life (HRQOL) measures several subjective dimensions dealing with the impact of health or illness on physical and psychosocial functioning. Quality of life (QOL) measures for children and adolescents have been developed in recent years, initially for children with specific chronic conditions, but more recently generic and health-related QOL (HRQOL) measures have been developed . The early assessments of children's quality of life were mostly disease-specific, and this trend has continued. Generic HRQOL measurements for children and adolescents can help identify subgroups of children and adolescents who are at risk of developing health problems. KIDSCREEN-27 is a generic HRQOL measure derived from KIDSCREEN-52. The KIDSCREEN-27 is a subset of the KIDSCREEN-52 that includes 27 items for assessing HRQOL across five dimensions: Physical Well-Being (5 items) examines a child's or adolescent's level of physical activity, energy, and fitness. Although the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the KIDSCREEN forms have been studied previously; however, its psychometric characteristics in children with CP have yet to be determined. Accordingly, the aim of this study is to provide an overview of the psychometric results of the KIDSCREEN-27 HRQOL questionnaire

Turkish Validity and Reliability of the Visual Function Classification System (VFCS)

Cerebral PalsyVisual Impairment4 more

Cerebral Palsy (CP) is the most common childhood disorder that occurs with a lesion in the developing infant brain, seen in 2-3/1000 live births. CP is a posture, movement and tone disorder that occurs due to prenatal or postnatal causes. It is not progressive, but since the anatomy of the lesion and the physical development of the individual are not completed, the course of the disorder may vary throughout life. Accompanied by motor dysfunctions, it varies according to clinical types. In addition to this, various visual, sensory and behavioral problems, speech disorders that cause learning difficulties and cognitive problems can also be observed. Ophthalmic disorders are the most common problem in CP and can also affect the developmental process of the patient. Since ophthalmic disorders and neurological deficits are associated in CP, the relationship between neurological disorder and ophthalmic disorders has been investigated in the literature. The aim of this study is to establish the Turkish validity and reliability of the Visual Function Classification System (VFCS) specific to individuals with Cerebral Palsy (CP).

Relationship Between Prenatal Maternal Distress and the Quality of General Movements at 3 Months...

Cerebral PalsyInfant Development1 more

Depression and anxiety symptoms are common during pregnancy which may disturb the intrauterine environment by affecting the mother's physiological responses to stress, and ultimately impair fetal and postnatal development. There is increasing evidence about the effects of maternal distress on young brain tissue leading to some structural changes. The neurological footprints of these structural changes on the young brain may be caught early in life by a video assessment of General Movements (GMs) quality.

Cognitive and Motor Tasks in Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral PalsyGait Disorders3 more

Various gait deviations are observed in children with cerebral palsy. Our aim was to determine the effect of cognitive task (CT) and motor task (MT) on gait in children with cerebral palsy (CP). 15 children with CP, between 9-15 years old, with Communication Function Classification System (CFSS) level I, with Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) and Manual Ability Classification System (MACS) level I-II were included in the study. The gait with four different conditions (single gait, CT, MT and CT&MT) was evaluated by Kinovea video analysis method on a 10-meter course. Results:

Evaluation of Communication Functions in Children With Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral Palsy

In this study, investigators aimed to evaluate the communication functions of children between 2-18 with cerebral palsy. Investigators planned to investigate the relationship between communication skills and clinical characteristics and socio-demographic status of the family.

Long-term Outcomes of Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy Among Individuals With Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral Palsy

Spasticity affects up to 80% of individuals diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) is a surgical method used by some hospitals to permanently reduce spasticity in order to prevent further morbidities. Better understanding of the long-term outcomes of SDR is essential for clinicians and families. The results of this study will have direct clinical impact by equipping providers with the necessary information to counsel families during medical decision making.
