RAND Center of Excellence for the Study of Appropriateness of Care in CAM

Chronic Low Back PainChronic Neck Pain

The RAND approach to appropriateness makes it feasible to take the best of what is known from research and apply it-using the expertise of experienced clinicians-over the wide range of patients and presentations seen in real-world clinical practice. The major limitation of the RAND approach, however, is that it still utilizes a limited definition of appropriateness; one that relies heavily on safety, efficacy and effectiveness. Until now the RAND method has not included patient preferences or resource utilization effectiveness. These are both serious absences. In the past decade we have seen an evolution in outcome measures from clinician based objective measures to patient-centered and subjective measures. The development of Patient Based Outcome Assessments (PBOA); Patient Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) and the recent establishment of Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) all contest to the growing importance of the patient's perspective in determining outcomes and therefore also appropriateness. In the Center, we propose to advance appropriateness methods by adding three additional dimensions to the RAND appropriateness methods: patient outcomes, patient preferences and cost

The Effect of Intubation Method on Outcome of Cervical Spine Surgery

Cervical Pain

The specific aim of this study is to demonstrate that inserting a breathing tube using a standard laryngoscope with the patient fully anesthetized is a safe and effective means of securing the airway in a patient with cervical spine disk herniation or stenosis. The two groups compared are composed of those who are intubated with direct laryngoscopy and those who are intubated with a fiberoptic scope.

Effects Of Neck Pain Such As Fear Of Movement, Muscle Performance, Disability Etc.

Neck Pain

INTRODUCTION Non-specific chronic neck pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal disorders today. Factors related to neck pain are diverse and can affect the person in different ways. In order to determine the appropriate physical therapy and rehabilitation program for patients, the functional status of the patients should be evaluated carefully and the factors affecting this situation and the relationships between them should be taken into account. Parameters such as pain, balance, disability, muscular performance are associated with neck pain. The aim of our study is to examine the relationship between pain and kinesophobia and muscle performance, balance and dual task in individuals with nonspecific chronic neck pain and to compare them with asymptomatic individuals. Materials and Methods: The study included 44 individuals aged 18-65 who applied to Kırıkkale University Faculty of Medicine Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic and were diagnosed with non-specific chronic neck pain by a specialist, and 44 asymptomatic individuals between the ages of 18-65 who did not experience neck pain for the last 1 year for the control group. will be. A total of 88 individuals will be included. We will evaluate kinesiophobia, pain density, muscles performance, dual task etc. FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION: Data acquired at the end of this study will be compared by using appropriate statistical methods and then it will be discussed in comparison with national and international literature.

The Relationship Between Cervical Hypolordosis and Pain, Phone Addiction, and Nomophobia

Neck Pain

The aim of this study is to reveal the relationship between the degree of neck straightening and pain, phone addiction and nomophobia in young adult patients who applied to the clinic with the complaint of neck pain and were diagnosed with neck straightening as a result of radiological examinations. 120 patients who applied to the clinic with the complaint of neck pain and were diagnosed with cervical hypolordosis by radiological examination will be included in the study. After giving the necessary verbal and written information about the study, a link will be sent to the phones of the patients whose informed consent was obtained. Patients will access evaluation questions and survey questions via this link. Personal information with the Sociodemographic Data Form prepared by us; pain severity by Visual Analogue Scale (VAS); phone addiction level with the Smartphone Addiction Questionnaire (Young Population); nomophobia levels will be evaluated with the Nomophobia Scale.

The U.K. Embryologist Fatigue Study

FatigueStress13 more

The purpose of the study is to determine physical and mental health issues of U.K. embryologists related to their occupational characteristics, and how workplace fatigue and burnout may affect their quality of life, cynicism, interactions with patients, attention to detail, and lead to human error, the cause of the most severe IVF incidents that often make headlines and result in costly litigation. It will also correlate how the current manual workflows contribute to these health issues, and what measures can be taken to improve both working conditions and embryologists' health, and, therefore, improve patient care.

Efficacy of Dry Needling in Cervical Pain

Cervical Pain

The presence of latent myofascial trigger points (MTrPs) in the angular muscle of the scapula is one of the possible causes of non-specific neck pain. Dry needling (DN) and ischaemic compression (IC) techniques may be useful for the treatment of these MTrPs. Methods: 80 participants were divided into two groups: the dry needling group, which received a single session of DN on the angular muscle plus hyperalgesia (n=40), and the IC group, which received a single session of IC on the angular muscle plus hyperalgesia (n=40). Pain intensity, pain pressure threshold (PPT), range of motion (ROM) and quality of life were assessed at baseline, immediately after, 48 hours and one week after treatment.
